The Purple Palace hotel is conveniently nested into hotel rooms in this complex, next to attractive lakes. Conference rooms were spacious and functional and would get three stars but the hotel is in need of an upgrade, being stuck in 1970s decor with basic facilities. The spacious rooms looked tired, were musty, and with a degree of disrepair (for example... More

I stayed in this hotel for three nights in room 7231. I arrived in the dark about 2000. The hotel comprises several buildings. I was in the hotel attached to the conference centre which is away from the main building of the hotel. The room comprised a very large king bed, desk, easy chair, coffee and tea facilities and wardrobe.... More

My husband and I booked the ironically named "Purple Palace" as a nice weekend get-a-way from Shanghai. In reality, this place is a MUSTY, unkept and outright dirty place with heavy energy (i.e. spots on the sheets, moldy carpet, cigarette burns in the furniture, TERRIBLE smell, old furniture...). When we complained about the state of the room, we were moved... More

I loved staying at the Purple Palace. The room was very nice, and had a great view. The downside is that it's not very close to the downtown area, but it's surrounded by beautiful scenery, with a lake and lots of greenery.

At arrival around noon, our rooms weren't ready for check-in. After a long haul flight from Europe and an upcoming meeting, we needed to change and shower. The hotel staff didn't put an effort into finding a solution for us. After intervention of our local chinese business partners and about 40 minutes, we did receive room upgrades and could check... It's hard for me to rank this hotel as it was my first visit to China so I am not sure of the standard for this area or for their star ratings. However, as other reviewers noted, the room was dated (80s style) and quite rough around the edges. The room was quite dirty - very stained carpet with hairs... More

I stayed here for two nights as part of a meeting with staff from the Nanjing mayor's office. I found the hotel staff friendly, efficient and helpful. Checking in was quick and painless. The food in the restaurant was good and plentiful. I had a room that directly overlooked the lake, which made for a peaceful setting. I only wish... More

While this property is dubbed as luxury it most certainly isn't. My room had a moldy shower mat, carpet with dust and hair along the perimeter (never been edged or thoroughly vacuumed) and the walls of the bathroom weren't cleaned (I'll spare you the gory details). No safe or wifi in the rooms. The front desk staff seemed flustered and... More

A true dinosaur from an earlier decade in China with poorly maintained 3/4 star hardware and design (by international standards) matched with no star service at 5 star prices (for a second tier city in China) make for one of my worst stays in a hotel in China (or anywhere in the world actually). When I checked in a 4... More
