Last year I stayed at the Nanjing InterContinental Hotel. It was a rather disorganized stay, with near overpays and 30 minutes spent at check-in. I wrote a mediocre review about the hotel almost a year ago. I spent the entire train journey from Nanjing back to Shanghai writing about it. Now as I return this time, I’m very happy to write about this year’s Christmas stay at this magnificent hotel. As the newly appointed Spire Ambassador, I was really pleased to what my family and I have experienced. We came to this hotel from Christmas Eve (12/24/2021) and left on Boxing Day (12/26/2021). I booked the 100SQM One Bedroom Suite one or two months prior. That was for 3 people. The price of 3754 RMB for two nights came with the entire Club InterContinental experience. On the morning prior to our afternoon journey to Nanjing, I received a call from what I believed to be either the Club InterContinental Team or the Front Office. They called to confirm my arrival time of 5PM, and to help arrange a complimentary extra bed. To their credit, they helped get the extra bed setup for free amid myself telling them briefly about the not so great previous year’s stay. I also requested a higher floor suite and a lake view. Upon arrival, we were asked on phone to proceed directly to the Club InterContinental Lounge on the 47th floor for check-in. From there we were checked in by Club InterContinental Lounge Manager Alison Li, assisted by Club Lounge Attendants Alice Huang and Tiffany Jiang. Check-in although was shorter, it took an extensive 18 minutes and 38 seconds to finish up payments, health code checks, filling out health declaration forms, passport registrations, and finally handing in the key cards plus the Ambassador drink vouchers and 120 RMB food credit. One thing to note that should be taken seriously, is to next time not put guests’ bank cards into the key card sleeve. It can cause some damage to the bank cards, when sandwiched with other key cards. We were escorted to Suite 7121 by Alison. To our surprise, we were suite upgraded to the Deluxe Lake View Executive Suite. She introduced the Christmas pastries waiting for us, and told us to ask if we needed help. The Deluxe Lake View Executive Suite covers a total whopping 130SQM in area coverage. The main beauty of the suite is the Xuanwu Lake view with much of the additional northern city in view. The suite has anything you would need in one with an extra special twist. It has a long hallway containing the shower, toilet, dual-sinks, bathtub, closet area, makeup desk, and all the amenities you need including the Salvatore Ferragamo Soap and Shower Amenities. One thing to improve there is the need to add two doors between the bathroom area and the master bedroom. There was two hallway entrances that didn’t have doors to the bathroom. One open hallway view from bedroom leaves the shower and bathtub openly exposed. Allison to her credit did address the problem and offered us to move to another suite. We figured that the suite is too comfortable, so we chose to stay. It was nice seeing that touch of responsibility. There is a master bedroom with lamps, a small TV, power outlets, lighting control panels and a comfy king bed. Next to it is an office with all the essentials needed for a basic office. This is followed by a living space including couches, a bigger TV, dining table and a space to put the rollaway bed. In addition, we have an powder room and a pantry room with its own sink and fridge. Overall, an impressive suite with just the minor renovations issue with the missing two doors in the bathroom. We had a light bulb pop, it was promptly changed at the request to Allison. The Club Lounge was a very spectacular one. It has its own all open hours non-alcoholic bar service. A very comfortable and modern seating area with its own office spaces, meeting spaces and buffet area for its great afternoon tea and happy hour service. We had a great afternoon tea service consisting of some mini cakes and fruit. We also had a great happy hour service consisting of some excellent yellow croaker and mini-dinner buffet items. It was all done by the great and phenomenal service on-ground service team of Club Agents Alisa Liu, Allison and Tiffany. We would further like to thank Alisa for the 75 Anniversary Special InterContinental Cocktail, and making it without prior notice. An above and beyond experience at the lounge. Breakfast was great with all the attentive service and food options available. The attentive and phenomenal service was conducted by Cafe Horizon Serving Staff Members Jeremy Ji and Ruby Yin. If there was some bring the Cafe can improve on, it is to implement a fresh egg station which should include omelettes, scrambled eggs and proper Eggs Benedict. However, we did like the Duck Blood Noodles and the Lean Pork and 1000 Year Old Egg Congee. Concierge was quite helpful too. We managed to get some masks thanks to Chief Concierge Staff Member Nic Ren. We were helped in and out of our taxi my Sam Jang and the rest of the concierge lobby team. We managed to reserve a Dim Sum buffet lunch at the Yue Cui Xuan Cantonese Restaurant thanks to Allison. We had a good but more to be improved on dim sum buffet. As frequent Dim Sum eaters, here are our findings: Steamed Beef balls need to be bigger and well presented. Sticky rice chicken dumpling needs to be more well presented and up to proper scale. Shrimp dumplings were dominated by a big shrimp and nothing else, there for it needs some bamboo shoots according the traditional recipe. The fried salt water dumplings need more filling. The Compoy Egg White Fried Rice was dry. We had to ask to refill hot water in the tea pot instead of servers manually coming to fill the pot. The steamed chicken feet was well done though, along with the Beef Hefun Noodles. A further review written by my father will be further evaluate and examine the restaurant on 大众点评 DaZhongDianPing by the account name: [上海南京快閃行者]. We would like to thank Manager Nakra Zhang, and servers Vivian Yu and Beryl Wang. We were checked out and escorted to the elevator by Alice from the Club Lounge in no time. Everyone at the hotel was attentive and professional. We’d like to thank the hotel for giving us a great hotel experience. Overall, this was certainly a great way to kick of the winter holidays. Everything room and service wise was phenomenal and well-improved since my last trip last year. Of all the 19 InterContinental Hotels I visited, this is one that will be memorable for us. I have ranked this hotel #10 out of 19 InterContinental hotels in terms of performance. Hopefully the hotel will further improve any design issues and food when I return. I look forward to coming back!!!

A friend recommended this hotel because it is the highest building in Nanjing. And actually, I am still here. Tonight is my last night. I just want to point out some problems I have with this hotel while I am still here : 1. When I arrived, I was very tired and feeling dizzy. I wanted to order food but I cannot find the menu. THEY SHOULD HAVE A SIGN THAT SAYS WHERE TO FIND THE MENU. So I called the room service and told them I cannot find the room food menu. The person who answered said that someone will come to my room to show me where it is. But I clearly said I am very tired and not feeling well, I do not want anyone in the room right now. Yes still someone came to disturb me and also gave me a dirty looking menu which I threw away eventually in the trash. 2. There was no movies available in my TV. 3. The dirty menu that I threw away in the trash can was put back in the drawer by the cleaning service the next day when they "cleaned" my room. THE MENU WAS ALREADY IN THE TRASH AND IT IS VERY DIRTY, WHY WOULD YOU PUT IT BACK IN THE DRAWER? 4. OMG. One of the sides of my bath tub is broken. And it is dirty!!!!! The side is so dirty!! So disgusting. 5. Room smells dirty, like old filthy room. So I asked room service for a room spray with fragrance to make my room smell nice. BUT THEY DID NOT UNDERSTAND. Instead, an ayi came to spray stinky lysol or whatever chemical it is that she brought and sprayed it all over the dirty carpet. I ended up buying my own cheap perfume at Miniso. 6. At the breakfast buffet, a waitress was so nice enough to accompany me to a table. Take note: I came at 7 AM and there were only 5 of us there at the breakfast place. She got me a table by the entrance WHERE THERE WAS NO VIEW. I did not know that the restaurant is big. So when I was walking around to get some food, I realized that there are better seats inside with amazing view of the city! Omg I am so upset why would this waitress give me a table inside at an ugly spot where there are so many other tables inside with the view of the city. I don't understand why the staff is so stupid. 7. When I went to the pool, the staff there was kind to lend me a swimming cap.... But they GAVE ME SWIMMING CAP FOR KIDS!!!!!!! Omg I'm losing my patience. Why are your staff not smart? I'm sorry for saying this but I think they are so stupid. I try to be as patient as I can but my patience is so short when the service is terrible. 8. Lastly, I ordered food room service for lunch and left the tray outside. I called the room service to pick it up and the staff who answered agreed that I just leave it outside my door. After that, I went outside to explore the city. And when I got back to my hotel room after 3 hours or so, OMG, why is the tray still there? Nobody collected the tray?!?! But why??????? I'm very disappointed. I'm never coming back to this hotel. I have attached pictures of the dirty menu and dirty broken bath tub.

I booked a room for my parents in China to stay at the hotel for one night during labor holiday. We booked it through the company’s website as their website claiming that you could get full refund as long as canceling within 24 hours. We wanted the hotel to charge through the credit card we left online and that’s when the nightmare begins. Hour 0-hour 2: thank you for your request we will work on it. Hour 2- hour 4: we have an Alipay QR code maybe you can scan this one (unfortunately the QR code is only for mainland China use) Hour 4- hour 5: we need you to write an authorization confirmation letter with all your credit card info. You also need to take a picture of the card and we assure you your info is safe. Yes handwriting version is fine. Hour 6: finally they put a pre- auth on my card. It’s 2am US time and I eventually could go to bed. Hour 7: sorry handwriting confirmation letter is not enough we need a print only version although they have exactly same content. I do not understand why it is SO difficult for an international hotel group to process an international credit card when it’s not present. Lessons learned - their internal payment system SUCKs when you’re trying to purchase the room remotely with a foreign card. Use the third party agency (like TripAdvisor, Expedia) instead.

Stayed 3 nights over Easter Holidays resp. Qingming Festival and enjoyed the excellent location, great service and the wonderful from the 65th floor (lake view). We had three wonderful breakfasts and two great dinners at the hotel (45th floor) - all dishes were at very high quality and we enjoyed the top service. GM Billy Yap even provided personal assistance / advice for our individual tourism program - highly appreciated - thank you very much and see you soon again ...

We loved Nanjing as a city to visit for New Year 2020 and will definitely return to see the Memorial Hall as it was fully booked for a week in advance. The Confucius Temple is a must see, and a trip to Purple Mountain is a must do. Nanjing is a vibrant, busy city, with much to offer and to enjoy. Very much looking forward to another visit. The Intercontinental Hotel has some issues: - Our room on arrival was not ready (2pm and booked a week in advance) - We were offered another room which was ready for 200 RMB more but on departure we were charged 466 RMB. - At the bar there were no cocktails we could buy on New Year's Eve but others who were not expats were served. Similarly we were told the bar closed at midnight. It closed around 1.30am. - At breakfast we were told no tables were available and we should wait. Others who were not expats were given tables. The hotel itself is a delight with views of mountains and small islands. Rooms are spacious, comfortable and modern with everything you could need to enjoy a stay. We really have had a New Year to remember forever in Nanjing. Yet, sadly, we will never choose Intercontinental again.
