However, one thing you won't see advertised on the price comparison websites is the background of this hotel. Not being particularly religious I was of the opinion that Caritas was simply a hotel chain. Oops! Having now Googled it I now know that Caritas stands for the 'Christian love of humankind' and is worldwide Catholic charity.
The Oswald Cheung is run by the Catholic Diocese of Hong Kong and also has a community centre and social work centre onsite.
The religious nature of the hotel shouldn't affect your stay but I thought I should point this fact out.
Located in Aberdeen the hotel is a little way out from the centre of Hong Kong but buses or taxis can get you into Downtown in about 20 minutes. The location is also a good place to explore Repulse Bay and Stanley as well as hikes up to the Peak.
The hotel looks like it is having a bit of a makeover; public areas are looking really quite modern with the room I stayed in a little older. Not bad though - a very large room by Hong Kong standards with parquet flooring (looks lovely but makes an awful noise when neighbours move furniture in their rooms). Plenty of storage and a large bathroom.
The cleaning could be a little better but it is by no means awful.
The receptionist had a minor panic when she saw that two men had requested a double bed. Funnily enough my reservation was changed to a twin bed room so a small amount of furniture rearrangement had to be done every evening and morning.
This is a perfectly adequate hotel especially considering their nightly rates.
Ps: don't forget your flip flops as the bathroom is not that tidy...!

To solve the problem, I was advised to keep the air con on at all times of the day and at low degree (19 degrees celsius). As a result, I felt freezing 🥶 when I was at the room, and had two quilts covering myself when sleeping 🛌.
Moreover, my TV turned on itself at midnight in the middle of my dream. I simply turned it off with the remote without figuring why.
It's an uncomfortable stay overall. I think it's the deficient design of the ventilation and cooling system of this building accountable for the crazy humidity. The outside humidity during my stay was 80% so I don't think it is the cause. I stayed in hotels near the sea or lake before as this place but had such experience.
I do not recommend this hotel although the room is spacious, clean tidy, location interesting with locals and price not bad.
One should know before any booking that this hotel is adjacent to cemetery. I don't mind though.

Staff clearly don't care...
When you enter the building, I was still a bit unsure as to whether we were in the correct place. There was no indication that this was a hotel. Once we got into the lift, only then it became apparent, as the hotel was named by the floor button.
When we finally go to the reception, we were greeted with an unfriendly service with no smile! As if this wasn't a bad enough welcome to a new city, upon entering our room I noticed that the toilet had failed to be cleaned and was covering in urine!
So I went back to the reception to complain, no one was present, I rang the assistance bell several times and waited around 10 minutes before the host appeared. When I advised what the problem was, there no offer to move room. Instead a cleaner was sent to deal with the mess.
We initially booked for 2 nights via Asia rooms, but needed to stay another night. As we failed to find another hotel within the area and to avoid the hassle of moving our bags we asked if we could extend our stay by one night. They said they could, however at a much higher price than we initially paid. We later asked another receptionist, and they gave us the room for an other night at a similar rate to what we paid initially. Confusing!
The breakfast is included within the price, it's a buffet Chinese style breakfast.

The place is handy once you know which buses to get.
The rooms are pretty good and you can negotiate to have or not have the breakfasts.
We would stay here again.
