Overall: An elegant but not tacky hotel
Interior decoration: There are details and surprises everywhere for travelers to explore and have fun. The color scheme of the room is also very popular. The room is clean and tidy and the supplies are of high quality.
Service: From the moment you entered the lobby, the service staff greeted you kindly and politely. The check-in procedure was also very fast and efficient. They also patiently answered questions about tourist attractions. You can feel that the service staff are well-trained. One thing worth mentioning: when I was in the lobby When he looked confused, the service staff immediately came to ask about his needs, which was a delicate and considerate service.
Location: Quiet in the middle of the hustle and bustle, you will see the bustling streets as soon as you step out, with everything to eat and drink.
It is highly recommended to choose to stay in Hong Kong, you will not regret it.

5 stars? Maybe a poor 3 stars.
Rude staff, at the reception they are rude and do not say hello when you enter or leave the property.
We stayed for 5 nights and our experience was really disappointing.
The room is quite large, with a very uncomfortable, hard bed and the mattress appears worn out over time.
The bedroom environment is not soundproof!!! During the weekend you can hear the sounds of parties and discos at very close range! Impossible to fall asleep before 3 in the morning. The windows of the building are so thin that the smell of cigarette smoke coming from neighboring rooms enters. Absolutely terrible.
The hotel does not provide a breakfast service and is based in a really low-level restaurant located on the street (price per person €16.00 per day).
The most unpleasant thing is the rudeness of the staff who, for the most part, do not speak English and only Chinese.
The room making service is only available until 12:00, if you want to sleep a little longer the room will not be cleaned. Really unworthy for a 5 star hotel.
Very high prices, unjustified for the terrible service offered.
The location is excellent, the only note of merit: it is located in a very convenient street in the Central area for taking the subway.

Let's start from the fact that every country certainly has its own rules for hotel classification but The Pottinger, in great sincerity, finds it difficult to understand how it can be a 5 star in any known universe.
Going in order, arriving at this hotel, which undoubtedly benefits from an excellent position, you realize almost immediately that the staff is indifferent to non-Chinese customers, in our case we were never greeted or considered during our 5-day stay, which which is difficult to understand simply considering the category and the price paid.
The rooms (at least ours) are of a good size but have some significant problems: a very small and uncomfortable wardrobe, an equally uncomfortable bed and in general the feeling of never being in a 5-star hotel.
The worst of the worst is achieved with the soundproofing (seriously deficient) of the room itself, in front of the rooms there is a terrace with a room that plays loud music and, on the weekend, it seemed like having the DJ console directly in the room, impossible to sleep until 2 am.
Last but not least, they do not have the possibility of having breakfast in the hotel (5 stars avoided once again) but only allow the purchase of a voucher for the nearby PHI restaurant, which serves terrible food at exaggerated prices in my opinion, I strongly advise against it to take advantage of it.
My advice, at least for European customers, is to perhaps spend a little more but to opt for another hotel because here the risk is of being severely disappointed.
Serious note of demerit for the courtesy of the staff, who I hope will read this review of mine: the rules of the hotel industry, as master Bruno Barbieri teaches, require maintaining the same standard of courtesy (not only with the Chinese), which in a 5 stars should be high, with all customers, taking care of guests at all times. In this hotel you never have the feeling that hospitality is a strong point, indeed, that this point exists.

Being a first time traveler to Hong Kong, my priorities were to be on the Island and close enough to all the Metro Hubs (Ferries, Trains, The Peak Tram etc). The Pottinger ticked both these boxes and had the added bonus of being extremely close to the clubs and bars too if that is your scene. I had booked the Corner Suite room and was pleasantly surprised with the size of room and greatly appreciated the extra touches like the turn down services. To note I was a solo traveler but the Corner Suite is certainly big enough to cater for couples comfortably.
For me the lasting memory was the exemplary customer service shown by the staff. One evening I was greeted by a knock on the door from the staff with them holding a Bottle of Wine, Cake & A hand written note. They had realized it was my birthday and sent these gifts to my room. I had not mentioned my birthday or reason for my trip when I checked in, hence to see the Hotel and Staff went out of their way to make me feel noticed made the stay even more exceptional.

You should stay here if you want a great hotel in the heart of Central that, while not cheap (about $500 USD per night in November 2023), is a good deal cheaper than most other hotels in Central.
The hotel and rooms themselves were great. The lobby was posh, the rooms relatively large for Hong Kong and just as polished and clean and overall immaculate as you would expect for the price. The service was very attentive and helpful.
The real draw, however, is the location: the heart of Central. The hotel entrance is a few feet off of Pottinger street and its cobblestone stairs. There are more tasty and interesting/fun restaurants, bars, and shops within a few blocks than you could ever hope to frequent, including in nearby LKF and Soho if you want to go out. The subway (and Hong Kong station to the airport) are also just a couple blocks away within easy walking distance.
In short, if you want to stay in Central and experience everything it has to offer on your doorstep for a non-exorbitant nightly rate, relatively speaking, stay at The Pottinger.

Had a lovely stay (10 days) while had some minor renovations at home. The price was very reasonable for the vibrant location (smack in middle of Central close to escalator and Mtr) and despite lack of facilities which I did not have time to enjoy anyway (why sit by a hotel pool if you can go kayaking, for example), was really pleased with the hotel stay.
Service: Example of the great service here: Bell boy helped carry my luggage up the hill one block away where my Uber was waiting.
Food: Ta Vie is one of my favorite restaurants (on 2nd floor) Gradini one of my fav small quiet bars for drinks (lobby floor)
Room: 1501 was in a corner of the building and quiet. I had no common walls with other guests and while there was no view to speak of, it was high floor enough that I was looking at rooftops of the older buildings on Stanley. Never heard any noise from other guests or the streets except for the occasional sound of street cleaners early morning. The bathroom was more spacious vs expected and used elemis toiletries
I live really close by but it was still nice to be able to eat at my fav restaurants nearby (Mono, TaVie, Sushi Kohaku, Tate Dining, Sushi Haru, & Sushi Saito) and just go “home” around the corner.
I originally booked myself for 7 nights and decided last minute to extend 2 more nights.

My recent stay at The Pottinger Hong Kong was an enchanting experience that blended old-world charm with modern comfort. The hotel’s historic façade and elegant interior design captured the essence of Hong Kong’s colonial past. My room was a luxurious retreat, offering stunning views of the city’s bustling streets. The central location allowed me to explore Hong Kong’s vibrant neighborhoods with ease, from Central to SoHo. Dining at the hotel’s restaurant, Gradini Ristorante E Bar Italiano, was a culinary delight, with a focus on Italian cuisine. The Pottinger Hong Kong exceeded all my expectations, and I eagerly look forward to returning to this timeless gem.

Hi Katiepsdr,
I didn't hear anything in the bedroom during my stay. The position of the hotel is perfect, central HK.
Hi Steven, sorry there were no construction when we were there. Nonetheless, the area quite peaceful at night even though it’s located near to Main Street.
Thank you for your enquiry. We would like our guest to pay attention to a construction site locate opposite of Hotel.
Due to construction work, noise may occur during daily from 08:00am to 19:00pm Monday to Saturday.
There's construction on both streets although there wasn't any heavy work on the immediate street when I was there but it looks like there will be some heavy work soon. The work on the main street was quite loud and you could feel the building shake each time they drove in the pile. If you're there for a holiday and out during the day sightseeing, it won't be a problem as they stop work by the evening
Dear Keren B,
Greetings from The Pottinger Hong Kong. Thank you for your inquiry.
Our hotel provide rooms with King bed and twin beds. Kindly contact our reservation team for more detail or if you have any specify date that we can sent you a quotation. Thank you.
Best Regards
