Neighborhood
Jordan / Yau Ma Tei
The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighborhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamorous or busy as its neighbors Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighborhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighborhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.

Perfectly located along Nathan Rd, 1-2mins walk from Jordan Station with a bus stop right at their doorstep. The Harbour was an easy 10-15mins by foot. Plenty of restaurants and convenience stores around the block that stay open late. Our room was clean and well-equipped albeit a little cramped, typical of accommodations in HK. Room was also quite stuffy so an air purifier/ionizer machine was installed, which I think proved helpful. We had direct views of Nathan Rd, but since the hostel is on the 7/F, our room was still rather quiet. Water heater worked well with adequate pressure and a wide shower head. Staff were friendly yet unobtrusive. Overall a great stay and would definitely recommend. 🙂

I chose Alohas for its location primarily: in the center of Kowloon and close to a metro station. I also got very welcoming service from the English speaking woman at the tiny reception desk. My room was spacious, considering the price and location. It was also clean and quiet. I was glad to be able to walk to and from the harbor to see the Spring Festival fireworks.

We enjoyed our stay at Alohas Hostel. The place provided the fundamentals of what is needed in traveling: a cozy place to rest, everyday essentials that one might need, and a huge "plus"is its location! Its in the heart of the city allowing you to walk in any direction to get where you want to be. One problem though, were the directions (posted on their lobby board) telling you on how to get to the Bus Stop for the A21 Bus to take you to the Airport. The directions were INCORRECT. The map led to the bus stop where the passengers got off the A21 Bus from airport on their way to Alohas Hostel. We had to ask some store owners for information. For the benefit of your future guests, please change your information board to read: "To get to airport, turn LEFT after exiting the Alohas Hostel entrance (Nathan Road). Walk one minute, then turn LEFT to Jordan Road. Walk three minutes until you get to the 7-Eleven Store. Look out for Bus Stop A22 and wait in line. Last bus that picks up from this station arrives at 5:30pm. Fare is HK$39.

No mistake, this is a hostel (not a “boutique” hotel) but its clean and has all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. Located very close to Jordon MTR (<100 metres), but the easiest way to get there from HK International airport is via the A21 airport flyer which stops directly opposite the hostels front door - stop #11. Also great location for Temple Street night market. We booked 2 rooms, one triple and one double. Both rooms had a private bathroom - in smaller rooms the ‘shower’ is fairly basic (the hanging/hand held type) but its sufficient. The rooms are clean, beds were comfortable and towels changed every day. The hostel is on level 7, an elevator is available which is helpful for luggage. Staff are friendly and greet visitors on arrival. They’re also on hand to provide useful tips for sightseeing and transport. There are items available to guests to borrow / use - selfy sticks, travel books, disposable toothbrush, slippers, umbrellas etc. Nice touch! Recommended as a great place to stay!

Easy access to MTR station. Easy to find their lovation. The staff gave me a clear instruction on how to check in at midnight. Their room is good and clean, the A/C works good. They didn't have a free breakfast but they have a free coffee, water and tea. The staffs are really nice. We had a wonderful stay here.
