I chose to stay at the Auberge Discovery Bay because my dad lives in DB. I was a little worried after reading some of the reviews but I had a very positive experience here. I arrived early in the morning and was told that they would WhatsApp me when my room was ready.

I spent the day in Central and never did get that text advising me that the room was ready but I did get one offering me a discount on the restaurant and spa services. When I finally got to my room, I found it in great shape. It was clean and there were no frayed linens/towels nor any signs of mold. I had chosen an ocean view and the view out the window was spectacular. There was also a view from the large shower (which they had a blind that could be lowered), which had three different settings - shower, rain shower and bath. Water pressure and temperature were perfect. They provide Japanese-style robes.

There was only one bar of soap in the bathroom, so I had to remember to bring the soap with me to the shower and then back to the sink. (I was provided with an additional bar of soap the next day.)

No mini bar or snacks but they do provide canned water.

There is a water filtration machine in the room that offers various temperatures and an electric kettle. Unfortunately, there is no coffee machine, perhaps reflecting guests preferences for tea, and only instant Nescafe coffee. I wound up waiting for the nearby Uncle Russ to open at 7am in order to get my coffee fix.

I did not hear any noise from the rooms next door (maybe they were unoccupied). The only noise I would hear was from the families returning from their day at Disneyland.

Overall, Auberge Discovery Bay offers a good value. If you don't mind staying a little further out, Discovery Bay is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and there are lots of restaurants, shops, markets (including a small Ikea) and even an ice rink. It is close to Disneyland (the hotel offers a shuttle service) and Ngong Ping 360. There are frequent ferries that can take you to Central, just a quick bus ride down to the harbor.

We hope that guests who stay can accumulate points. The more days they stay each time, the more points they will get, which can be exchanged for discounts on next stay. We also hope that residents can be given preferential prices for lunch and dinner to make it more convenient for guests. They can choose multiple translations to avoid having to go out.

My wife and I booked a long stay suite for 2 weeks which was very nice although there is a lot of fabrics and carpets. Everything was really nice until my wife started to get an allergy with congestion and constant sneezing. Being a ‘long stay’ the room is only cleaned twice a week. During the second clean my wife was there to witness it. She said the cleaner spent less than 30 seconds vacuuming and a little more time wiping everything down. Totally unsatisfactory. Because of my wife's allergy we decided to borrow a vacuum cleaner from a friend and to our shock and dismay the carpet was disgusting… Please see the picture attached. We also decided to do some ‘sample’ wiping and again to our shock the wipes we used were disgustingly dirty… Pictures attached of that too. To their credit the manager did arrange a ‘deep’ clean of our room but I suspect the issue is a systemic one with quality control non existent. I wouldn’t be surprised if more rooms were like ours.. A real shame to be honest because everything else is very good. But to be living amongst all that dead skin, body hair and god only knows what else it really put a downer on our experience. Our health is important to us and if we don’t trust the hotel to provide us with a healthy and safe environment then we won’t be going back anytime soon …

This is a very good family hotel. There are supermarkets, restaurants and a large playground within 5 minutes. From the moment I contacted the hotel via email to reserve a room, and I had more than a hundred requests (just kidding), the check in was even worse. When the room accidentally flooded (probably due to a guest problem), when we checked out, all the colleagues were very attentive and patient in serving the guests, and the response efficiency was surprisingly fast.

In addition, it can be seen in many places that hotels are willing to invest in very good hardware. Let me take two very inconspicuous hardware as examples. The water in the outdoor swimming pool is actually slightly warm in summer, and the rooms use professional wireless network equipment. The former It feels more thoughtful when I take my kids swimming, and the latter makes me feel more at ease when using wifi.

The fact we had a hard time finding a hotel that would allow three adults and one child without being charged extra for the third adult even though the third adult is 16yrs old child. Auberge Discovery Bay had a room without the extra charge...but, really it was a blessing cause this hotel was more then we expected. Having free shuttle from station to hotel and free shuttle to Disney was so helpful. Beautiful location next to the ocean, nice little strip mall with restaurants, grocery store, coffee shop and 7/11 was nice to be close too. Excellent hotel, staff were friendly and helpful and check-in and out were all fast, helpful and professional. Room was also great, quiet, clean and never out of hot water. Highly recommend and will stay here again!

My friend called me to have lunch here. The restaurant just started this promotion seafood lunch buffet with a seafood platter, salad bar, dessert and soft drinks which costs HKD398 per person. You may order a main course from HKD168+ with wagyu beef, and some other Chinese signatory dishes. The restaurant also offers all you can drink with HKD$268+ pp. I had an enjoyable reunion lunch with my friends this weekend with a nice ambience, and flavory food in the restaurant. Totally content!

Housekeeping staff is not helpful. I booked the hotel and informed that I have a 3 year-old child. I can't find any toilet seats when I arrived the room. When I ask for a toilet seat for my child, a housekeeping staff told me it has to be checked. A while later, she told me there were no toilet seats available and brought me a small potty. I told her the potty was too small that my child can't fit in. She said she have to double check again to see if there were any toilet seats for me. She told me she confirmed that all toilet seats were occupied and couldn't render any more assistance. I was so disappointed. How come a hotel was unable to provide a toilet seat even I guest told them there would be a child to use their room? That is very unprofessional and not caring. I tried to call their hotline and a friendly staff told me she will handle it for me. Within 10 mins, a housekeeping staff brought me a toilet seat and explained it was so lucky that there was a guest finished using it [at around 15:30hrs] If it is so, I think the hotel need some budget to buy toilet seats in the coming year.

Secondly, as the hotel restaurant was fully booked, I tried to order room service by calling the F&B at my room. I tried 3 times. No body answered and no body replied my calls.

The buffet arrangement is not flexible. As my child was suddenly not feeling well, I tried to change the night buffet for 2 persons to a room service but the hotline staff told me that the hotel did not have this option. Is this something so difficult to arrange some food to the guests who need to take care of their kids?

For people thinking of staycation there, need to think again.

By the way, the hotel is located in a remoted area and it's interesting that the shuttle bus service is very limited [only on Saturdays/Sundays/PH and 5 time slots only]

However, the hotline staff is nice and friendly. One of the staff efficiently arrange a taxi for me to leave the hotel after I spent about 3 hours in the guest room as my child was not feeling well.

We stayed a night with Auberge during weekday and would like to visit again!

The hotel doesn’t have shuttle during weekday so the transportation caused us a trouble, it took nearly 2 hours for us to reach there. The bus from Sunny Bay is every half an hour so you are advised to schedule your time accordingly. Another option is to take ferry from Central.

The check in was smooth at 2pm but we were asked to come back to get our key at 3pm. Our room is featured with an incredible harbour view and it is spacious. The bathroom has a sunken bathtub which looks like a Japanese onsen. The room’s design is simple and a little bit old but the view and bathroom made it up.

The swimming pool is pretty. Each session is 1-1.5 hours and we didn’t queue to get in. The pool is quite deep so the kids are playing at a side pool and allows adults to have a good swim. The play room and gym are simple but enough for you to kill time.

Their breakfast arrangement is good. The restaurant is spacious so you don’t have to worry about the seats. You can reserve your time slot at the restaurant and they provide breakfast until 12pm, so you can enjoy your breakfast and plan your day ahead without hassle. The food quality and variety is average.

The service is standard. They charge 22hkd for each water bottle which I think is ridiculous. They do not have water fountain in the hotel as well so you have to purchase your own drinking water outside.

Overall, the hotel is located at a vacation-like Discovery Bay, an ideal place to have a little getaway from city neon. At night the island becomes so quite makes you feel like you are in an island. Recommend this hotel to people who wants something different from all hotels in city centre.

Staycation during weekdays , could not book the panoramic room, but managed to get a sea room which has a great view. The full size hybrid shower/ bathtub is fantastic, works almost like an onsen and could enjoy the view while you soaked. The gym is relatively small and the treadmill TV does not work. The breakfast buffet is ok pretty standard in hk. Access via a bus from sunny bay MTR at half hourly schedule (5 past and 35mon past the hour). We took a blue taxi to Tai O which costed 270$hkd one way for a 30+Km ride. Cars not permitted in Lantau so we didn’t want to spend 1.5hr on a bus. Worth the price since there were a few of us. Overall quite a nice staycation and May do again. Love the layback pace of DB, almost forgotten I am in Hong Kong !

Check-in is terribly slow. Room wasn’t ready at 3pm (the official check in time). Hundreds of hotel guests were waiting in lobby, only 3 counters were opened at front desk. Staff were not helpful at all, worse than an average 3 stars hotel. We had to keep asking at front desk for few hours in order to settle in the room. Agitated hotel guests all around we were so glad to get out of the lobby finally.

Room is obviously dated and has not been maintained well. Only 2 bottles of complimentary water were provided, any extra bottle (not fancy brand like Evian but Bonaqua) will incurs a charge of $12 each, what a rip off! The shuttle service to sunny bay and the beach were infrequent and over crowded. Nothing much to do in the hotel for children, even the swimming pool was fully booked and we had absolutely nothing to do.

Nightmare continue on next day. Breakfast for children over 90cm is not free! (only two adults breakfast is included in the room package, what a surprise for a hotel targeting family) We were charged $99+10% for my 4 years old daughter and the food was ridiculously unpleasant. The only food she was willing to eat was cereal. We entered the breakfast hall at 8:45am and the food only serve till 9:30am. It didn’t matter in the end as we couldn’t really pick anything we were satisfied.

Check out process is again tedious and not a pleasant experience. I was checking out but the room was booked under my wife’s name. Front desk staff refused to issue me an official receipt for the reason of I was not the one who made the booking. Then I asked for taking a picture of the receipt on screen, she said an email was already sent to my wife. I insisted and she made me waited for a good 5 mins before finally, and reluctantly, showed me the receipt on iPad again so that I could take a picture.

Taking our luggage from concierge was another 10 mins wait. What a consistent service pace from the beginning to the end.

In conclusion, if you would like to spend your weekend waiting, queuing and stay hungry, paying for an overpriced room ($2700 for our package) which your children’s breakfast won’t be inclusive, please choose Auberge Discovery Bay hotel!

There is an airport bus. Very comfortable and convenient. This is what they have on their website: Take one of the two public buses from Bus Bay No.8 of New Coach Station adjacent to Car Park 1 next to Hong Kong International Airport Terminal 1 and reach the hotel in 25 minutes. DB02A - Arrive at hotel directly in 25 minutes DB02R - Arrive at Discovery Bay Plaza. Please alight at the final stop, then change to Bus T4 or T9 to Hotel.
