I spent the day in Central and never did get that text advising me that the room was ready but I did get one offering me a discount on the restaurant and spa services. When I finally got to my room, I found it in great shape. It was clean and there were no frayed linens/towels nor any signs of mold. I had chosen an ocean view and the view out the window was spectacular. There was also a view from the large shower (which they had a blind that could be lowered), which had three different settings - shower, rain shower and bath. Water pressure and temperature were perfect. They provide Japanese-style robes.
There was only one bar of soap in the bathroom, so I had to remember to bring the soap with me to the shower and then back to the sink. (I was provided with an additional bar of soap the next day.)
No mini bar or snacks but they do provide canned water.
There is a water filtration machine in the room that offers various temperatures and an electric kettle. Unfortunately, there is no coffee machine, perhaps reflecting guests preferences for tea, and only instant Nescafe coffee. I wound up waiting for the nearby Uncle Russ to open at 7am in order to get my coffee fix.
I did not hear any noise from the rooms next door (maybe they were unoccupied). The only noise I would hear was from the families returning from their day at Disneyland.
Overall, Auberge Discovery Bay offers a good value. If you don't mind staying a little further out, Discovery Bay is a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and there are lots of restaurants, shops, markets (including a small Ikea) and even an ice rink. It is close to Disneyland (the hotel offers a shuttle service) and Ngong Ping 360. There are frequent ferries that can take you to Central, just a quick bus ride down to the harbor.

In addition, it can be seen in many places that hotels are willing to invest in very good hardware. Let me take two very inconspicuous hardware as examples. The water in the outdoor swimming pool is actually slightly warm in summer, and the rooms use professional wireless network equipment. The former It feels more thoughtful when I take my kids swimming, and the latter makes me feel more at ease when using wifi.

Secondly, as the hotel restaurant was fully booked, I tried to order room service by calling the F&B at my room. I tried 3 times. No body answered and no body replied my calls.
The buffet arrangement is not flexible. As my child was suddenly not feeling well, I tried to change the night buffet for 2 persons to a room service but the hotline staff told me that the hotel did not have this option. Is this something so difficult to arrange some food to the guests who need to take care of their kids?
For people thinking of staycation there, need to think again.
By the way, the hotel is located in a remoted area and it's interesting that the shuttle bus service is very limited [only on Saturdays/Sundays/PH and 5 time slots only]
However, the hotline staff is nice and friendly. One of the staff efficiently arrange a taxi for me to leave the hotel after I spent about 3 hours in the guest room as my child was not feeling well.

The hotel doesn’t have shuttle during weekday so the transportation caused us a trouble, it took nearly 2 hours for us to reach there. The bus from Sunny Bay is every half an hour so you are advised to schedule your time accordingly. Another option is to take ferry from Central.
The check in was smooth at 2pm but we were asked to come back to get our key at 3pm. Our room is featured with an incredible harbour view and it is spacious. The bathroom has a sunken bathtub which looks like a Japanese onsen. The room’s design is simple and a little bit old but the view and bathroom made it up.
The swimming pool is pretty. Each session is 1-1.5 hours and we didn’t queue to get in. The pool is quite deep so the kids are playing at a side pool and allows adults to have a good swim. The play room and gym are simple but enough for you to kill time.
Their breakfast arrangement is good. The restaurant is spacious so you don’t have to worry about the seats. You can reserve your time slot at the restaurant and they provide breakfast until 12pm, so you can enjoy your breakfast and plan your day ahead without hassle. The food quality and variety is average.
The service is standard. They charge 22hkd for each water bottle which I think is ridiculous. They do not have water fountain in the hotel as well so you have to purchase your own drinking water outside.
Overall, the hotel is located at a vacation-like Discovery Bay, an ideal place to have a little getaway from city neon. At night the island becomes so quite makes you feel like you are in an island. Recommend this hotel to people who wants something different from all hotels in city centre.

Room is obviously dated and has not been maintained well. Only 2 bottles of complimentary water were provided, any extra bottle (not fancy brand like Evian but Bonaqua) will incurs a charge of $12 each, what a rip off! The shuttle service to sunny bay and the beach were infrequent and over crowded. Nothing much to do in the hotel for children, even the swimming pool was fully booked and we had absolutely nothing to do.
Nightmare continue on next day. Breakfast for children over 90cm is not free! (only two adults breakfast is included in the room package, what a surprise for a hotel targeting family) We were charged $99+10% for my 4 years old daughter and the food was ridiculously unpleasant. The only food she was willing to eat was cereal. We entered the breakfast hall at 8:45am and the food only serve till 9:30am. It didn’t matter in the end as we couldn’t really pick anything we were satisfied.
Check out process is again tedious and not a pleasant experience. I was checking out but the room was booked under my wife’s name. Front desk staff refused to issue me an official receipt for the reason of I was not the one who made the booking. Then I asked for taking a picture of the receipt on screen, she said an email was already sent to my wife. I insisted and she made me waited for a good 5 mins before finally, and reluctantly, showed me the receipt on iPad again so that I could take a picture.
Taking our luggage from concierge was another 10 mins wait. What a consistent service pace from the beginning to the end.
In conclusion, if you would like to spend your weekend waiting, queuing and stay hungry, paying for an overpriced room ($2700 for our package) which your children’s breakfast won’t be inclusive, please choose Auberge Discovery Bay hotel!
