Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This is a very small hotel in terms of its footprint, so although it has over 20 floors, there are only two rooms per floor. This is not unusual in HK, where space is at such a premium. But the hotel is great value for its excellent location, just a 10-minute walk to the heart of HK's Central district, and with subway stations within a 5-minute walk. The rooms were surprisingly not as small as I had expected, and I had a suite with a separate living room. The bathroom is spacious, with a full bathtub and shower area behind glass doors.
The room also had a kitchenette with microwave, mid-sized fridge, kitchen sink, Nespresso machine, tea bags, kettle, plates, etc. The hotel also has a gym, but no restaurant. But dozens of restaurants are on that same block, so it's not an issue. One caveat: The lobby is reached only by a short flight of stairs, so be ready to carry your luggage up. They have a small hydraulic elevator but that is only for wheelchairs.

1. Exit A2 of Sheung Wan Station is nearest. The road is very narrow and there are many people and cars. It is difficult to push luggage. There are only half of the subway escalators for going up and none for going down. These are inconvenient for travelers with reduced mobility and large luggage. 2. There are many restaurants nearby, where you can taste local food. 3. The transportation is convenient, and you can reach scenic spots and stations even on foot. 4. The room is large and has a kitchen (microwave, refrigerator, espresso machine) 5. There is a TV in the living room, which can be connected to external audio and video equipment. The network is not slow. You need to enter the password for the wireless network yourself, so external equipment can be connected. 6. The large bed is soft, and there is a safe, iron, etc. in the room. 7. There are few sockets. They are all Hong Kong-style sockets and do not have USB, so you have to prepare them yourself. 8. There are 2-3 households on the first floor. The space is not small and can store luggage. 9. The air conditioner is very cold and cannot be adjusted. I don’t know how to deal with it if it is cold.

Our second visit to Hong Kong, the first time we stayed in Kowloon and this time enjoyed it much more due to the location of The Mercer. The location was ideal for all we wanted to do while in Hong Kong. It was also fairly close to the MTR so we used the Airport express and one stop on the MTR to reach the hotel. The hotel is a bit tired but it was clean and comfy so ideal for what we needed.

Mercer used to be our favorite in Hong Kong in 2011-2015 when we frequently travelled there. Coming back 2024 for 4 nights, we are sorry to see it has declined in many ways. The location is still great, but the attentiveness of staff is gone, rather front desk staff is often close to rude, and have very little interest in helping out. The hotel is worn down and not well maintained, e.g.curtains broken, mould stains in ceiling and rusty bathroom drains. One unique benefit with Mercer is that many rooms are large, which we value and are willing to pay for. We booked a 38 m2 room (400 sq.ft), but initially were provided a small room of less than 25 m2. Complaining (in three levels of staff seniority…) we were after first night “upgraded” to a mini suite of 35 m2, still smaller than booked. No other compensation was offered. Sorry Mercer – we are definitely not coming back. One more comment – they used to serve breakfast, but no longer so. You are referred to restaurants in vicinity

Great location for my trip. So close to Sheun Wan MTR station, but also to heaps of restaurants, bars etc, including both very cheap 'locals' type places and expensive finer dining. Bed was comfy, shower was good. No noise at night. Room was clean and in good condition overall. If you can get this place for a decent discount on regular pricing, then I would recommend it.

Needed a few nights in HK prior to picking up our cruise. Chose hotel due to location and good reviews. Not disappointed at all. Easy walk to all the places we wanted to go, and so easy to ferry or MTR. Very welcoming staff. Very clean room. Within 100m you will find a great breakfast place (knead) and many restaurants including 2 in the Michelin guide! We had a very happy stay.

Brilliant stay at The Mercer. Great room and staff. Great location with lots of cafes and restaurants in the area. The local transport was also plentiful (MTR, buses, trams etc).
The bedroom was spacious and clean, with a lovely bathroom. The whole experience was great and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

Had an executive suite, good value for money (great prices in HK at the moment, for obvious reasons).
Large space, apartment style. So had a separate bedroom area and lounge/kitchenette. Work for me, 2x bottle of water per day, Nespresso machine, fridge and microwave.
Breakfast meant to be included, but they no longer do here. That could be annoying for some people.
Location is good for CBD and loads of bars, restaurants etc around here..
Recommend as a tourist hotel as well as its in Central and you get everywhere reasonably quickly from here

I usually stay at the Ovolo 286 Queens Road but for a change decided to try one of the several other 'boutique' hotels in Sheung Wan. Overall it was a good stay. How does it compare with the Ovolo? Some things both hotels do equally well/score equally highly: good location (Mercer is slightly closer to Central but not by much); free minibar; free and good wifi; small (just about OK) gym. The Ovolo gets extra marks for having a free mini launderette (very useful if you are staying more than a few days) and having a nice lounge area behind the (1st floor) reception. The Mercer scores for having much bigger rooms (the rooms at the Ovolo are tiny - no room for a wardrobe for example) which had a coffee maker, sink and microwave; for much better (free in both hotels) breakfast - the one at the Ovolo is acceptable, at the Mercer it is excellent (smoked salmon, good pastries, nice cooked stuff with perfectly done scrambled eggs for example); and the lifts are co-ordinated (in the Ovolo they aren't so everyone just pushes both buttons which slows everything down). Where would I stay next time? I like the Ovolo and it feels like 'home' in HK since I've stayed there many times...both are good choices but I think that I'd probably choose the Mercer: the rooms in the Ovolo really are small and I don't really look forward to the breakfasts.

I had the misfortune of having a flight interruption prevent me from making my scheduled flight to Hong Kong from the states. There was literally no way for me to arrive in Hong Kong on the day of my reservation. I called the hotel to cancel my reservation and to explain the situation in order to receive a refund. I was told that I had to call back in three hours. After calling back, I was told that they would not process a refund and that to discuss further, I would need to speak to a manager. When I asked to speak to the manager, I was told the manager was in a meeting and I would need to call back again later. After calling back a third time, I was told that the manager was unwilling to allow the refund. I asked to speak with them, but was told the manager was in another meeting and could not / would not speak to me. The decision had been made.
I then went on to inform them that between the prior call and this third call, I had been able reroute my trip to include a stay in Hong Kong for a date five nights out from my originally planned arrival date. I asked if, given that they would not allow a cancellation, would they at least move my reservation and apply it to that date. Without hesitation, I was told that the hotel would also be unwilling to accomodate that request. I politely pointed out that the manager had not heard this alternative, but was again shut down and told this was against policy.
Mind you, this is all in spite of the fact that my initial reservation had occured less than 24 hours prior to this. What a golden opportunity to show some flexibility and earn a life long customer (I travel to Hong Kong frequently on business). Instead, I certainly would recommend any major brand over them for just such a reason. If you need any assistance or flexibility - forget it.

I can not recollect seeing any self service laundry in the building. There is laundry and dry cleaning available and several small laundry shop within 2 or so blocks around the hotel in Mercer or adjacent streets.
Take the Airport Express train from the Airport to the Hong Kong station. Then walk a bit to Central station and take the Island line (blue line) towards Kennedy Town. Get off in Sheung Wan station (just 1 stop), exit A2.
You will exit to Wing Lok Street. Walk to the left to the crossroad, then turn left to Hiller Street. Keep going straight to Mercer Street, and you will find the hotel at the end of the street (total walk about 200 metres).
Or just take a taxi if you are not on a budget :)
There are more places to choose from in the Hong Kong area.
