The Upper House is a highly individualized small luxury hotel designed by Hong Kong architect Andre Fu. The hotel’s 117 rooms (including 21 suites and 2 penthouses) start at 730sq ft – the largest in Hong Kong. They feature wonderfully spacious bathrooms and dressing areas, and offer either scenic harbour or island views. Calming and contemporary, the rooms are designed to provide a sense of relaxation, warmth and understated luxury.
Star ratings are intended to indicate the general level of features, amenities, and services to expect. This property is classified according to Giata.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.

The Upper House hotel garners widespread acclaim for its expansive, contemporary rooms, which boast breathtaking views and meticulous attention to detail, despite occasional critiques concerning lighting and Wi-Fi connectivity. Guests are enchanted by the property's chic yet cozy ambiance and consistently commend the strategic location in the city's heart.
The staff's dedication to providing personalized, attentive service contributes greatly to the warm and welcoming environment, although a handful of guests have encountered less than perfect experiences. Luxurious amenities and a commendable level of cleanliness throughout the hotel are frequently highlighted by visitors, yet opinions on value for money vary.

We were fortunate enough to stay at the Upper Suite on the weekend and it was wonderful. The team at the front desk was very accommodating and super helpful. We arrived a bit earlier than expected but still managed to check-in making the whole experience very smooth.
We've previously stayed in the Studio 70 and the Upper Suite takes it to another level. Everything is clean and very neatly presented, the rooms have a very modern yet minimalistic take giving a very pleasant feeling especially when first setting foot into the rooms. Each room manages to have a different view than the other, the living room overlooking the harbour, the bath looking towards the Pacific Place complex and the bedroom having a mixture of both.
Housekeeping is great and I was especially impressed with how they inferred our needs with the room, leaving extra water, turndown services, etc. The room service is on point and the menu selection is great with a lot of similar/same dishes coming form Salisterra. Eating at Salisterra however completes the whole dining experience and my particular favourite was trying their breakfast, both their Chinese or English options for breakfast are very tasty.
If there's one thing to note, both of us have Eczema and quite dry skin. We found that the Bamford products the Upper House uses in their rooms sometimes causes us to flare-up and or have a very minor reaction.

The Upper House Hong Kong is located on the upper floors of a high-rise building on top of the luxurious Pacific Place mall, which is diectly connected to the Admiralty MTR station as well as Hong Kong Park. This is very convenient on the one hand, its surroundings are pretty serene on the other hand. What more could you wish for locationwise?
Even though our arrival was not too pleasant in the first place with bellmen neither greeting nor helping with the luggage, our upgrade to an Upper Suite was very generous, and Paul's welcome tour, as well as the generous welcome drinks and gifts quickly let us forget.
The Suite in the most beautiful design imaginable and with stunning views of Victoria Harbour was just unforgettable - beyond words.
Also the bathroom with its amazing bathtub, rain shower and lovely amenities was amazing. Sometimes the beauty of the room made it hard to even leave it at all.
Even more tempting to "stay inside": the complimentary minibar filled with a whole lot of beer and soft drinks.
Minor criticism must be expressed about the rather uncomfortable bed and lacks of cleanliness in some parts of the room. Nonetheless, service, be it via phone or at the door (thank you so much for all the lovely chats and great tipps, Janice!!!), was a dream.
At breakfast, proactive service and friendliness could be improved though, whereas the quality of food and beverages was excellent. The same was true for our in-room lunch.
For our goodbye, a complimentary ride to Hong Kong station was arranged by Lewis proactively, such a great gesture!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveler reviews.
When I read the overwhelmingly positive reviews of the Upper House, I was a little skeptical. But now, after a terrific two week stay, I am joining the choir to sing the praises of this beautiful hotel and its fantastic staff.
Without repeating the wonderful experiences that other guests have already mentioned, I just want to send our belated thank-you to all the staff members, particularly to those who made our visit the most memorable home-away-from-home stay.
1. Vincent, Leslie, Ken, and Roy in the Salisterra Restaurant - Thank you for remembering our dining preferences and having everything we wish for us. Vincent in Salisterra knew exactly what I would enjoy and recommended dishes and drinks I really savored. He sent me chocolate when my cousin had dinner in Salisterra when I could not join her.
2. Leo, Andrew, Macy, and their Guest Experience Team - Thank you for helping us make reservations in the difficult venues, get us complimentary rides for our Chinese New Year Dinner, offer me ginger tea when I coughed, and show us different rooms to find the best room category for the firework displays. Watching fireworks in the Upper House is absolutely amazing! The Guest Experience Team really sets the Upper House apart from other luxurious hotels.
3. Everything in the room and common areas was spotless, and the Housekeeping staff was always responsive to our requests at lightning speed.
I wish I could remember everyone's names and thank everyone. The Upper House staff is a special group of people. I suspect this extraordinary team is created by a team of extraordinary executives. I sure hope the management will lead the hotel to the Number One in the World. You definitely deserve that. Happy staff, happy guests. Thank you again.

The Upper House Hong Kong does not only excel locationwise - Admiralty MTR station with 4 lines virtually connecting it to all parts of the SAR is linked by the luxurious Pacific Place mall and Hong Kong Park only metres away - but also with its exceptional service. Welcome by Janice was extremely warm with lovely preparations for our anniversary, a pre-breakfast, an early check-in and an incredible Suite upgrade, simply due to our third visit. What a generous and heart-felt approach!
The view of three perspectives from living-, bath- and bedrooms was simply overwhelming with a marvellous skyline, the sea, and the hills all visible either from the huge sofa, the comfortable bed, or the relaxing bath tub. Even the shower was a delight, and the most generously equipped and refilled complimentary beer and soft drink minibar enhanced the enjoyment even further.
The housekeeping did an excellent job at keeping the rooms clean despite a very appealing, but not too cleaning-friendly design that simply breathes luxury.
Paul, another very friendly team member who we met for the second time, was always present for a chat and ready to help, even in very stressful situations.
The breakfast's products were of very good quality, especially the extraordinarily well-prepared coffee. It is not a typical hotel breakfast, but a lovely Ă -la-carte solution. Of all three visits, the service was best this time. The view from Salisterra restaurant, where the breakfast happens, is absolutely scenic.
A special treat from Paul during our seamless check-out were chocolate and two thermo cups. What a lovely gesture before getting on our complimentary farewell ride!
Two small possible improvements for the rooms: A washlet would be a great add-on and Wi-Fi could be a little more stable.
The Upper House is not all new, but a well-aging property, and in direct comparison to many high-end properties, which we spent our recent trip at, it clearly stood out as the best.
For sure, we will be back!

I can’t quite recall when my first stay at The Upper House was—perhaps 2013 or 2014? But since then, I’ve returned whenever I could.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, I left after completing my studies at CUHK in the ’70s. Over the years, I had the privilege of staying at many five-star luxury hotels in HK during business trips. However, after retirement, The Upper House has been my home whenever I visit family in Hong Kong.
This time, I stayed with my son and his family after our trip to Europe. For my grandchildren, The Upper House is Hong Kong. They have been visiting since birth, and while traveling before our arrival, they kept asking if the next city was Hong Kong—they simply couldn’t wait to stay here again. It speaks volumes when even the little ones eagerly anticipate their stay!
The level of care at The Upper House is extraordinary. Since developing an MSG allergy last year (including sensitivities to naturally occurring MSG in certain foods), I was touched by the attention to detail during breakfast. The staff carefully reconfirmed my dietary preferences, ensuring I had plenty of delicious options. The team also remembered my preferences from past visits—even down to stocking my favorite soy milk in the fridge. The way they keep such meticulous records to tailor each guest’s experience is simply amazing. It’s a true team effort to provide comfort at every level.
Dining at Salisterra on Level 49 was another highlight. The breathtaking night view of Hong Kong made our already wonderful meal even more enjoyable.
Despite it being over a decade since my first stay, everything still feels as pristine and fresh as ever—along with thoughtful new touches. The Chinese New Year candy box placed at the bar on the ground floor was such a warm and festive gesture.
Though I may not visit as frequently as before, The Upper House remains my only choice whenever I return to Hong Kong. It is a place where I can truly relax, be pampered, and feel at home. I must also extend my heartfelt thanks to Edward, the Director of Guest Experience, whom I have known since my first stay. His attentiveness, enthusiasm, and genuine warmth make a lasting impression. Kristina has also been incredibly friendly and helpful in so many ways.
Thank you all to your beautiful gifts and snacks during our stay.
Until next time!

Houses, note hotels — that's the philosophy behind The Upper House in the center of Hong Kong Island. The staff and the interior design really make guests feel this way with every detail. Housekeeping would tidy up the room a few times a day and keep stock of the complimentary snacks and beverages (soda, beer, bottled water, milk and coconut milk, talking about a variety). A tray of warm cookies and a warm bottle of milk were provided in the afternoon of my first day.
If the snacks are not enough, the top floor restaurant, Salisterra and the green room bar, offer tasty Mediterranean fares and delicious cocktails made from the new spirit by the hotel called House of Gin.
Back to the studio room perched on the 43rd floor I stayed in for four nights — It's spacious with two rooms. Gigantic rectangular windows in the perpendicular bays let natural light in and frame the views of the green lush hills or the glorious Victoria Harbor. The living and sleeping space feature a king-sized bed, and a large L-shaped sofa, wide wooden desk. The TV remote control is nestled in a box. Again, all the nice details reinforce the concept of "House, note hotels."

The Upper House is the best hotel we’ve ever stayed at.
Lots of positives. We love the rooms - large rooms with a minimalist Scandinavian design. It has a small but well equipped gym (new Technogym machines and good weights) and a terrific restaurant. A convenient location in Admiralty which is right next to Pacific Place and easy to get to the MTR, trams or buses. We had the breakfast included this time – amazing views of the harbour and a range of set menus - it almost feels like a generous breakfast buffet but instead it all gets brought to you and is of excellent quality. The coffee is really good too.
But what really makes it special is the service. The staff remember every detail from past stays, whether it’s your preferred number of face towels or the drinks you like in the complimentary minibar. Last time we asked for an extra lamp in the room and so when we checked in, they had an extra lamp already there. They greet you by your name every time you walk by reception. At breakfast, we asked for caramel sauce—they didn’t have any, so the kitchen made it from scratch. Another day, we requested chrysanthemum tea at breakfast which they didn’t have on the menu – the next morning, they had gotten some in and brought it out without us even asking! I could go on and on. It’s the personalised service that really separates a luxury experience.
If I had a minor quibble, it'd be the lack of a pool on-site. I think there's an arrangement so that you can use the pool at another hotel.
Really one of the finest luxury hotel experiences you can think of. I couldn’t recommend it more.

I’ve stayed at many 5 star hotels, but it’s been a while since I’ve been this satisfied. If I come back to Hong Kong, I’ll definitely stay here again. The staff were incredibly friendly, and it felt like the employees themselves were an integral part of the hotel experience. Special thanks to Manager - Sharon Lee for her detailed recommendations on tourist spots, restaurants, and local tips, her help was truly appreciated. From the moment I checked in, the staff personally guided me to my room, explained everything about the space, and even the staff I passed by were warm and welcoming, which left a lasting impression.
I stayed in a Standard Harbor View room, and the bathroom was just as stunning as the photos. The room itself was spacious, blending modern touches with a classic charm. I especially loved the separate powder room in front of the bathroom, which made getting ready for the day so convenient. The complimentary bar snacks and beer were well-stocked with tasty options, and I was pleased with the quality of the amenities provided.
Breakfast was served as a set menu rather than a buffet, and I found the food to be clean and delicious. It wasn’t busy, so I could enjoy a relaxed meal and good conversation, which made me think I’d love to return here with my family. The hotel is also connected to Pacific Place Mall, which is perfect for shopping, and I had an excellent brunch at The Continental right next door.
The bar on the top floor is fantastic too—definitely check it out! (The restroom there is a hidden gem!)

Just got back from yet another amazing stay at The Upper House over Twixmas and New Years. Have been staying here every year since opening, but this was my first time back in HK in 4 years (due to Covid) and my stay did not disappoint! Great service and was well looked after by the team - special shout-outs to Edward Tang, Lewis Kim, Kristina Snaith and Coley but the whole team is very welcoming. Bedrooms have been refreshed and don't feel tired or dated despite operating for nearly 15 years now, interiors remain impeccable throughout as always, and walkable location in central HK is unbeatable. Can't wait to return again later this year. Highly recommend. Upper House will always be my fave hotel in HK (and my fave city-based hotel globally).

I had the most spectacular stay(s) at this absolutely gem of a hotel. Upper House blends a touch of modernity, comfort, and sprituality in its design, comfort, and service. It is what a 5 star hotel ought to be. I had arrived fairly early on the 1st day of my arrival, and the check-in staff were so considerate they had breakfast and coffee ready for me in the room. That small thoughtful gesture and touchpoint elevated my experience at the outset.
The Room:
I got to stay in the Studo 80 and the Upper House Suite Haborview rooms on this stay and as you can see from the photos the rooms are massive with a ton of space and great design to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. You can't get better views of Hong Kong than this hotel, and you literally feel enveloped by the mountains. The bathrooms are large and decadent that mirror in size of a standard hotel room. This much room in a city like Hong Kong is nearly impossible to find. I had a ton of closet space and lots of room to store toiletries and get dressed.
The bathroom:
The bathtub overlooking the mountain and the harbor is the ultimate amenity of the rooms you can't get better than this and it is by far the most relaxing experience to bathe in the hot tub before starting your day or ending the night you'll feel immersed in the tranquility of the room while overlooking the glitter of the city and the green mountains that envelope this hotel. The stand in shower is also large with spectacular water pressure. Toiletries provided by the hotel are top notch.
The concierge and staff:
I had asked the concierge staff (Sharon Lee) to suggest bars and restaurants and make bookings for us and she did a spectacular job in sorting that out for us and helping us experience Hong Kong for what it's best for. Quick on her feet, she made sure we were looked after. Nikki from reservations was also super professional and efficient.
The amenities and restaurants:
I had breakfast included and got to dine every morning at their restaurant on the 49th floor while enjoying stunning views of the city and the mountains. The green room bar is spectacular to start your night of with a drink. Their cafe downstairs also serves great coffee. The hotel had a discreet entrance, and you feel drawn to the quaint atmosphere from the moment you arrive.
Location:
You are connected to Pacific Mall so there is no shortage of restaurant, shops, and cafes - literally at your doorstep.
Definitely a Must stay in HK I'll return and stay every time! 💯👌🏽🙏🏽

Dear Gerald,
Thank you for your message and apologies for the delayed reply.
The Upper House does not have connecting rooms (except our Penthouses) but once reservation has been made and if informed of such a request, we will do our best to assign rooms next to each other or on the same floor.
Please do feel free to contact our Team at reservations[a]upperhouse[.]com, and do let us know if we may assist any further.
Sincerely,
Marcel Thoma

Dear Larry G,
Apologies for the delay in response and thank you for your concern.
Luckily Our House sustained little to no damage during the typhoon due to protection the nearby buildings provided against the wind. This was also the case for areas in our proximity such as Wan Chai, Admiralty and Central. However, across the harbour and higher up on HK island, more damage was taken.
Despite this, Hong Kong did an excellent job of clearing the roads and removing debris, allowing all to resume to normal merely 1 day later.
If you have any further questions whatsoever, please feel free to contact us at anytime.
Wishing you a lovely upcoming Christmas!
We are located right above Admiralty MTR Station with a direct entrance from Pacific Place shopping mall.
From the station it’s approximately a five-minute journey upwards through Pacific Place to The Upper House by foot, lift and escalator.
Many thanks for getting in contact and we look forward to hopefully to welcome you to "Our House",
Sincerely,
Marcel Thoma
