We stayed at his beautiful hutong during winter in Beijing and loved the typical classical old Chinese architecture. The hotel is located in the alleys and lanes behind a bunch of other old shops and houses. The hotel was quite easy to find if you follow the direction closely but if you get lost; it would be very difficult to... More

We arrived at the Xisi subway station and followed the instructions we'd been given. Fairly straightforward, just look for the public lavatory on the corner of the hutong. Then down some narrow laneways and there we were. Ring the bell and we're greeted and go inside. No they don't accept overseas credit cards so we paid with cash. We're shown... More

This place was recommended to us and I think it would have been fine if we knew a little more what to expect. It is a traditional courtyard hotel within the steaming bowels of a traditional Hutong. That was neat. We like that. It was neat that the bathroom was sort of open air and we could hear the tinkle... More

Excellent place to stay as hotel is well-placed near Xisi subway stop (Line 4), about 5 minute walk. Area is marked with signs to the hotel, so had no issues finding it at all. Rooms and property are good for short or longer stays. We stayed here twice, 4 nights each time. Staff were great.

We were allready traveling around China for a few days and had not sleept well. So was the best two nights we had. Very quite and cosy room. Like other people said is not a 5 star hotel but you will really feel at home Ivy is just so sweet that is refreshing to get to this place after a... More

A quiet and peaceful hutong guest house tucked into a maze of alleys, but very safe and convenient. Just a short stroll to the nearest subway. Owner was very welcoming and the room was as I expected, a little basic but super clean and perfectly adequate as spent most of time out and about. Lovely little courtyard where you can... More

Pros: I love the idea of transforming an actual house to a hotel. The room is spacious enough for two occupants. Coming from a humid country, I think the staff realize we somehow need extra warmth in the room. They gave an extra heater and blanket. At one point it got too hot in the room. The staff are friendly... More

I was travelling alone, mainly for business and then some sightseeing and I found this place to be just a really lovely place to come back to after a day of doing the usual tourist things. It is located just over the road or around the corner (depending upon which exit you use) from Xisi subway station. This is an... More

I really loved this hotel. It was our first time visiting China - we were actually on our way to Nepal, but our flight had to stop in Beijing anyways so we decided to make a nice little stopover out of it. One VERY important note before I get into the review - a few months before booked our flight,... More

We loved our stay here, the courtyard is absolutely gorgeous. The hotel is a quiet oasis. The owners both speak very good English and are very friendly. We arranged a Great Wall tour to Jinshalin through them and the tour was great, no shopping stops! In addition, as others have mentioned the breakfast is very nice, noodle soup in the... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
About Si He Yuan:Si He Yuan (quadrangle courtyard) is a kind of classical architecture of residential housing for Beijing citizens dated from the Ming Dynasty. The narrow streets between Si He Yuan are called "Hutong". A traditional Si He Yuan comprises of a central garden surrounded by rooms and protected by high walls. Si He Yuan with Hutong has a history of more than 700 years, but now is suffering from the gradual urbanization of the metropolitan Beijing. Many foreign friends regard Siheyuan as bungalow, actually it is not. It is a traditional graceful Chinese building. A standard Siheyuan usually consists of houses on its four sides and the house which stands at the north end and faces at the south is called the main house or north house. The ones on both sides are called side houses, and the one which stands at the south end and faces north is called opposite house or south house. Usually a whole family lives in one compound. The elder generation lives in the main house, the younger generation live in the side houses, and the south house is usually their sitting room or study. ... more   less
