This place is incredible. The whole place is special. From the design and architecture of the building, to the decoration. Private access to the Great Wall, the place is very peaceful and relaxing. The staff are very friendly making the experience extremely unique.
I came here to have my first Great Wall experience and was not disappointed. The scramble up the path reminded me of my childhood in New Zealand, and the section of wall was beautiful. I was alone up there to take photos, and just breathe in the experience... a family arrive just before I left, and I think did not notice that you could continue exploring past the first tower... the better part. I was alone in my villa, and had a tony stark moment, sitting in a large modern home, doing some work and being surrounded by beauty and elegance... and later nature and stars. There was definitely something transcendent about the whole experience. But... Please note... the staff have limited to no English, and during a quiet time like mine... are obviously bored, and so preoccupied. They stand in groups and chat, sleep on the furniture, sit in the shuttle bus smoking... etc. Even though they out numbered guests in the restaurant, they had to be constantly hailed, watched as we served ourselves and were generally unhelpful. The hotel would definitely benefit from a dedicated team of duty managers to train the staff to give guests 5 star service. …
We visited the Commune at the Great Wall for a 3 day team retreat. The hotel is absolutely fabulous and the villas are large and very well planned. While each room has its own door lock, there is a common kitchen and living room in the villas which are spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Food was good (I am a vegetarian and there were some good choices) at both the restaurants, one offers chinese and the other offers world cuisines. The hotel is sprawled out and there are several villas spaced out comfortably. Privacy of each villa is assured and we could not see any other living space from our rooms. Saving the best for last... there is a portion of the Great Wall which can be accessed by a 30 minute hike from the hotel. The hike isn't too difficult (we did it twice in one day) and the portion of the wall that you can get to is very private as only hotel guests go there. There is also another longer hiking trail which I did not go on for lack of time, but is supposedly longer. I would recommend this hotel as a good option for anyone who would enjoy some time away from the hustle of a city and enjoys the outdoors!…
Beautiful hotel with a private access to the Wall - which was the reason for pur stay. We also enjoyed the outdoor pool! - Overpriced restaurants - and you can’t really eat somewhere else. - They tried to charge me for the room again. (Solved the issue after a while.) - Staff not very good at English - overpriced transportation going back to the city from the hotel + Nice, spacious room with great shower and comfy bed! + Swimmingpool + Free transportation within the hotel area (which is rather huge) + the exclusive part of the Great Wall + beautiful surroundings
