Hotel's Favorite
The only place I would stay in when I’m in Beijing, hands down. I stayed at the Peninsula a while back, but am only now getting around to writing my review. Right from the beginning of my check-in experience to my last day at the hotel, everything was handled seamlessly and I was thoroughly impressed by their level of service. I was there in the dead of winter, and if you’ve ever been to Beijing in the winter you’d know it can get extremely cold and dry, so I asked for a humidifier in my room at check-in; they had one at my door within minutes of me arriving in my room. Not only that, when I went down to get some dinner and asked the reception to point me in the direction of their restaurant, within the short amount of time it took for me to just walk down the flight of stairs, the maître d’ was already standing by to greet me by name and tell me he has a table ready for me. (I got to try a fantastic local Chinese red wine for the first time at the restaurant too, thanks to his recommendation!) I was given an upgrade to one of their larger suites at check-in, which made for a lovely surprise, and the room was exquisite. Until this day, I still say that the best hotel bedding I’ve ever experienced was the bedding at the Peninsula Beijing. Their duvet feels like you’re being wrapped in a comfy warm cloud! The marble bathroom was also sleek and spotless, and I couldn’t find a single flaw in the entire room if I tried. Controls in the room are all streamlined into one place, which is the cherry on top if you just want to laze around the room all day like me. I’ve traveled all around the world, and stayed in a myriad of luxury properties across different continents. Without a doubt, I can say that the Peninsula Beijing is truly a top-tier experience, ranking among the best in the world.

Our stay from start to finish was impeccable. All the staff are very knowledgeable and most speak good English. We needed some panadol or paracetamol and Auston at the front desk accompanied me to a pharmacy and helped with the translation. Of course the location couldn’t be better.

For the first time in my life, I came to Beijing to experience the culture of the Forbidden City. I chose a hotel closest to the Forbidden City. I have to say that when I entered the front desk, I felt the warmth of the peninsula. Ms. Rita, who received me that day, was also very cultured and professional. She introduced the hotel culture to me and her composure and confidence sparked a strong interest in the culture of the peninsula. If there is a chance next time, I would like to experience it again. Such beautiful and passionate memories. Thank you again to Ms. Rita at the front desk for bringing me an unforgettable trip to Beijing.

Greeted on arrival by Ludy, one of the amazing guest relations team who went out of her way to make everything perfect during our stay. We had 3 palatial interconnecting rooms, which are enormous for a major city center hotel. Beautifully decorated, total luxury, every convenience, and exceptional room technology while feeling you are staying in an example of a historically important fine hotel. The balance of tradition, elegance, contemporary services, and technology is perfect. Jing Restaurant was wonderful, with a fabulous and talented bartender. However, Vicky and Wiskey in the lobby lounge are the real stars of the food and beverage operation, passionately and enthusiastically overseeing what has to be one of the best breakfasts anywhere. The Peninsula Beijing is an amazing experience, and traveling with U. S. currency, it is unbelievably good value. The best hotel in Beijing, and one of the best hotels in the world.

My boyfriend booked the duplex suite at the Peninsula as a surprise for my birthday. He specifically booked it for a 2pm check-in and called the staff to tell them it was a birthday surprise. We arrived at the hotel at 2:15pm and, upon check-in, were told to come back in one and a half hours as the room wasn’t ready. This was a huge inconvenience, especially since my boyfriend had made prior reservations for the 2pm check-in. The front desk staff made no attempt to apologize or offer any alternative. We left to a restaurant and returned to the front desk at 3:30pm where the staff told us we had to wait an additional half hour. They then proceeded to say, right in front of me, that they were arranging a cake and birthday decorations, ultimately ruining the surprise my boyfriend had arranged for me. The experience was highly frustrating, inconvenient and very disappointing from a five-star hotel. My boyfriend attempted to contact the director of sales to let him know of the service we were receiving and the director never replied nor acknowledged the attempt to contact him. The hotel is in a great location and has a good reputation, which is why my boyfriend chose it. However, the service really dampened our confidence and we will not return, especially considering the cost. Upon entering the hotel lobby at 6pm, there was a young woman passed out on the curb and a man passed out in a wheelchair with vomit down the front of his shirt. At 11pm, I went outside the lobby to smoke and three drunken men harassed me, with one grabbing my arm. Two hotel staff were also outside, yet neither one intervened. Quite a disappointment that the Peninsula would have this type of environment. The hotel is situated in a fantastic location. The room was clean and updated with the latest technology. The bed was very comfortable. Despite these positives, we will not likely come back.
