We stayed here while visiting the Great Wall of Gubeikou in a private room. Rooms are quite Scandinavian in style and finished to a very high standard. Beautiful wood burning stove for those visiting in winter. Japanese toilets which I have mixed feelings about. Nice rainfall shower. The bed is the softest we've found in China! Staff weren't the most... More

Stayed here for 1 night in a deluxe private room in order to hike the wild Great Wall at Gubeiko. The room was stunning with a lovely soft bed - a rarity in China. While the deluxe rooms are expensive they are finished to a very high standard. The folk village it is located in was very quiet when we... More

Great place to stay and see the wall in its natural state. They need a map to scale that shows you how to get to the wall as its easy to get lost and not many signs in English and the village people do not understand your attempts at Mandarin.Take CNY with you as the only ATM is over the... More

Excellent service. Normally, breakfast and lunch are served, but because we arrived at lunch time, they let us order from the breakfast menu and prepared us a meal when we arrived. Rooms are cool and comfortable. Beautiful location to see the wall and hike. From Lonely Planet description, I had expected the wall would be extremely close, when in reality,... More

I stayed at this cozy guesthouse in the dorm. Nice and clean. I did two hikes. The first one to crouching tiger mountain and the other from gubeikou to jingshanling. Absolutely amazing!!! Didnt meet any other hikers for hours so we had the wall for ourselves. The guesthouse was friendly and helpful. Highly recommended!

The room was great, we stayed in a family room, perfect for the 4 of us. The shared bathroom is very clean with high quality shower (and japanese toilets!). The food could turn a meat eater to a vegetarian ;-) and the peacefulness of the place would be perfect to meditate and relax all day. You have very close starts... More

Not easy to reach Gubeikou but well worth the effort and Joe can advise on suitable walking routes in the vicinity. A lot of wall and very few people. Comfortable facilities in the Box House, excellent vegetarian food and good company.

Joe and all of the team at Great Wall Box House were perfect. We have a one year old son and wanted to get out of the city for the weekend with him during our trip to Beijing. Joe arranged for a taxi to get us and drop us off making it so much easier to travel there (especially with... More

The Great Wall box house is a nice little place set in the mountains and very close to the Great Wall. Upon arriving very late, Joe made all 3 of us an 11pm dinner just bc we were hungry. (he stops dinner at 7:30 normally). The common bathroom is immaculate with rain showers and even heated toilet seats. The food... More

The guest house completely exceeded every expectation I had. The rooms were clean, the bathrooms amazing (heated toilet seats). Joe was very helpful with planning my hike from Gubeikou to Jingsangling. I had dinner both nights I stayed. It was excellent and everyone eats together, which is a great way to meet the other guests. I highly recommend staying here!

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This is Joe (Qiao), who is a big fan of the Great Wall. I moved to Gubeikou Great Wall after traveling to lots of different types of the Great Wall: 1, Gubeikou Great Wall is the wild wall connected with Jinshanling Great Wall and Simatai Great Wall. 2, Our house is located in the countryside, not in DOWNTOWN Beijing. 3, If you want to experience REAL and WILD Great Wall, Gubeikou is the one what you must do. Situated in Gu Bei Kou, just 50-metres away from the Great Wall, this friendly house features modern architecture, as well as free Wi-Fi and free parking. Featuring stone walls and wooden furnishings, heated rooms come with Great Wall views. There are shared bathroom and heated toilet facilities in the courtyard. There are private rooms with an iPod docking station, electric kettle and en suite bathrooms available. The Great Wall Box House (Beijing) offers outdoor seating in the courtyard, a kitchen and a common dining area. Local Chinese dishes are cooked daily by the property. It is 3 km to Gu Bei Kou Railway Station and 100 km to Beijing International Airport from The Great Wall Box House. ... more   less
