We stayed here as part of a challenge to trek the Great Wall, presumably because of the lack of other options in the vicinity of the wall. The place has a run-down unwelcoming feel with piles of rubbish lying around between the hotel and restaurant next door. While the room was clean and spacious, the bathroom was a disgrace-mouldy with no shower curtain so everything got wet when it was in use. Apparently our tour company bought the bath towels for our use, so good luck if you are anyone else. The 'bar' outside sold only beer or local red wine for the ridiculous sum of 198 yuan (£20). ..and they had NO glasses. It was bearable for one night but basically, you should set your expectations pretty low.
I recently stayed at the Nali Lodge with a tour group after we trekked the Great Wall. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and quite modern. We didn't use many of the facilities but we did eat breakfast in the next door dinning room which was nice, we tried the western breakfast and the Chinese breakfast, and both were nice. During our stay we even visited the Karaoke bar next door and had a bit of fun singing badly. One disadvantage was that with heavy bags we had to carry them upstairs, I am not sure if there was a lift, I certainly didn't see one. The lights at the outdoor eating area made the place look lovely.
