Are you booking in the hotel or at the Orchid Private Residences? We booked 2 rooms at the Orchid and both had windows. Breakfast is served on site either at the restaurant or roof top terrace of the hotel. Maybe the 10 minute walk referred to people staying at one of the private residences.
We had a difficult time finding it the first time, as well. It's down a short alley and you don't see the hotel until you look between 2 buildings. Basically, it's across the street from Mr. Shi's Dumplings. It was my favorite place to stay in China, so it's definitely worth the effort.
