Pro's: (1) it is located very close to the Jingshan Park as well as to Forbidden City, Tien'Anmen square, Beihai Park and the Lakes area; (2) staff is friendly (especially Rick), speaks quite good english (which is a rarity in China) and is always helpful; (3) room size as well as bathroom size is ok; (4) the courtyard is located... Interaction with local people who speak English, and can suggest ways of seeing what you want to see without the hassles makes your stay in this great city much more enjoyable. Rick and Rachel give useful advice, and their friendliness and the effort they make is worth a lot. The atmosphere they provide is infectious..so interaction with other travellers in... More

Stayed here for 5 nights and found everything to be great. The owners are really friendly and knowledgable about the city. Happy to provide you with tips along the way. Rooms are basic, but very clean. It is also a great way to experience local life in a Hutong.

Rick and Rachel who run this hutong are super friendly & helpful. The common area to hang out is lovely and very homely. We ate breakfast a few mornings - it costs extra but is really reasonably priced with western choices of muesli, toast, eggs etc along with dumplings and noodles. Great coffee and really cheap beer, water & snacks... More

Really nice, quiet and relaxed place to stay in old Beijing. The owners are really helpful and always gave us good recommendations. The location is a really good base from which to explore Beijing and is walking distance from Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City. They have a simple and good value food menu available for breakfast and dinner and... More

I really liked this place and will stay there again when I get back to Beijing in September. It has IMHO a nice atmosphere plus the fact that Rick & Rachel are really helpful. Relaxed but full of information. Nice breakfast and good coffe, and if you're to lazy to get out for dinner you can have some of their... More

It is a great place to stay days or weeks in Beijing! The owners are very welcoming, helpful, offer good advice and speak good english. And it is cool and quiet after a day out in smog, heat and noise! Would come back again, if I travelled to Beijing again! Food is good, breakfast with real coffee - great! What... More

The hostel is wonderful. Not the most luxurious, but in a wonderful historical part of Beijing. A really good experience for anyone who wants to experience traditional Beijing living. Also, the owner is super friendly and very helpful. Good English!!

Stayed here first 5 nights. Incredibly helpful staff. Good English spoken. Food very nice and good prices. Room clean and comfy. Location good. We walked to Tien'amen/Forbidden City (took about 25 min). Nearest metro about 10min and wonderful Houhai lake/dining/bar area only 10 min also. Thanks so much for a great stay.

I stayed here for 4 nights with my partner and my parents and we had a great experience. I've stayed in dozens of hostels all over China and South East Asia and this was honestly one of the best hostel experiences I have ever had! As soon as we arrived the woman at the front desk asked us what our... More
