I was at the hostel for 2 weeks, and on the 4 first days there we requested them to check our power plug that wasn’t working, and nothing, we left there and nothing was done about it. The breakfast was supposed to be served at 7:30 am but many times the Chef wasn’t there which was served only around 8:00, 9:00. In one day they were even out of fruits which was the pancake side. The dogs and cats of the hostel walk around the bedroom all the time, I don’t have problem with them in the main area, but don’t like them in the place I sleep and specially smelling and going through our personal stuff. Also the bathroom looks like was never cleaned the entire time I was there (2 weeks). The structure of the place is good, has a pool, a restaurant, but can improve for sure.
Nice backpackers for a group of friends. Nice bar with “juju shots” . The pool is next to the bar . The beds and rooms are comfortable . It’s very close to nyali center and naivas as well which is a huge plus. The place could be abit more cleaner and better organized but it was really good and the service is pretty good and quick. I would definitely stay here again and I recommend it for young people
First time I came here was after a very long trip from Europe. So waiting 45 minutes for my dinner was not so convenient. I came back one week later. After sitting waiting for more than 20 minutes without anyone approaching me I left. And it was at a time where there was hardly no guest there. I don’t even know if there was some staff there because I never saw one. Now it’s for sure I will never come back. If I hadn’t left I would probably still be sitting there waiting for some kind of service.
We planned to spend our new year's eve in Mombasa, so we booked Tulia House for 3 nights. We booked at the hostel's website, paid in full, but when we arrived at the hostel to check in, we were told at 11 pm that there was no more bed for us and that they were overbooked. I was so disappointed when hearing the receptionist (Brenda) admitting that they had been aware of the situation weeks prior but we were not informed at all, so that we could cancel our stay and found another accommodation. Tulia then transferred us to another accommodation for the night and gave us refund for two unused nights, which we appreciated. However, we had to spend some extra more money to find new accommodation as most are already fully booked for New Year holiday.
This place has so much potential but it’s truly not looked after. There are two buildings with dorms and the one that is barely used is an older colonial style house. It is beautiful but because no one is taking care of it, it’s starting to break down. I came for New Years and they wanted everyone to leave so the staff could go party. They could have had a huge New Years party and make so much money. The rooms were not properly cleaned and it did NOT have air conditioning. Mombasa is hot and humid, they need to have air. They wouldn’t give other travelers fans. You have to put a deposit down for a towel. The food was good but it was too expensive. There was dog poop by the bathrooms that wasn’t cleaned up for two days. The pool was only cleaned out once. It is pretty grimy and I’m hoping there wasn’t bed bugs. The showers weren’t cold when you wanted them cold. The staff was friendly but they were not helpful with things to do, or where to go. This place is so nice and so big but it needs serious work. The lockers in one of the buildings didn’t even lock and I think they could use bigger lockers. The mirrors weren’t clean and they did not seem to organized. Also, it severely needs air circulation. Everyone was so hot and sweaty. There was just no way to sleep here. If you are going to not take care of the place, charge a lot less.…
