The staff is not at all helpful or friendly. Very unmotivated and annoyed if you ask for something. The pool is dirty, everything is too old and badly maintained. There was moldy food in the stairways. The showers had no pressure at all. They offer breakfast but we asked twice for it and the cook was not available. They could make so much more of that space. I think once it was a really nice place to stay...
I was at the hostel for 2 weeks, and on the 4 first days there we requested them to check our power plug that wasn’t working, and nothing, we left there and nothing was done about it. The breakfast was supposed to be served at 7:30 am but many times the Chef wasn’t there which was served only around 8:00, 9:00. In one day they were even out of fruits which was the pancake side. The dogs and cats of the hostel walk around the bedroom all the time, I don’t have problem with them in the main area, but don’t like them in the place I sleep and specially smelling and going through our personal stuff. Also the bathroom looks like was never cleaned the entire time I was there (2 weeks). The structure of the place is good, has a pool, a restaurant, but can improve for sure.
Nice backpackers for a group of friends. Nice bar with “juju shots” . The pool is next to the bar . The beds and rooms are comfortable . It’s very close to nyali center and naivas as well which is a huge plus. The place could be abit more cleaner and better organized but it was really good and the service is pretty good and quick. I would definitely stay here again and I recommend it for young people
First time I came here was after a very long trip from Europe. So waiting 45 minutes for my dinner was not so convenient. I came back one week later. After sitting waiting for more than 20 minutes without anyone approaching me I left. And it was at a time where there was hardly no guest there. I don’t even know if there was some staff there because I never saw one. Now it’s for sure I will never come back. If I hadn’t left I would probably still be sitting there waiting for some kind of service.
We planned to spend our new year's eve in Mombasa, so we booked Tulia House for 3 nights. We booked at the hostel's website, paid in full, but when we arrived at the hostel to check in, we were told at 11 pm that there was no more bed for us and that they were overbooked. I was so disappointed when hearing the receptionist (Brenda) admitting that they had been aware of the situation weeks prior but we were not informed at all, so that we could cancel our stay and found another accommodation. Tulia then transferred us to another accommodation for the night and gave us refund for two unused nights, which we appreciated. However, we had to spend some extra more money to find new accommodation as most are already fully booked for New Year holiday.
This place has so much potential but it’s truly not looked after. There are two buildings with dorms and the one that is barely used is an older colonial style house. It is beautiful but because no one is taking care of it, it’s starting to break down. I came for New Years and they wanted everyone to leave so the staff could go party. They could have had a huge New Years party and make so much money. The rooms were not properly cleaned and it did NOT have air conditioning. Mombasa is hot and humid, they need to have air. They wouldn’t give other travelers fans. You have to put a deposit down for a towel. The food was good but it was too expensive. There was dog poop by the bathrooms that wasn’t cleaned up for two days. The pool was only cleaned out once. It is pretty grimy and I’m hoping there wasn’t bed bugs. The showers weren’t cold when you wanted them cold. The staff was friendly but they were not helpful with things to do, or where to go. This place is so nice and so big but it needs serious work. The lockers in one of the buildings didn’t even lock and I think they could use bigger lockers. The mirrors weren’t clean and they did not seem to organized. Also, it severely needs air circulation. Everyone was so hot and sweaty. There was just no way to sleep here. If you are going to not take care of the place, charge a lot less.…
The place has such potential and while is did the job of providing budget accommodation it was extremely disappointing to see it in the state it was. Wifi is poor quality and not present throughout. No mosquito nets or air conditioning. The door to my dorm didn't even shut properly. No locks/keys/passes to get into dorms or to get onto the property meaning anyone could access the rooms. Lockers in my room were broken. Food at the bar is overpriced. Go to java house nearby, much better value for money. Good atmosphere at the bar but no activities/events, we were there over new years, it would have been a great place to host a party but it was like the staff wanted us out of the bar. Staff had barely any knowledge of things to do in the local area. Problems were not sorted in an acceptable time. There was no running water in one of the buildings for over 12 hours. There are lots of animals belonging to the hostel, they are friendly but aren't cleaned up well after and I'm not sure if they had access to clean water and food. Showers and rooms were grubby, little evidence of cleaning.…
It’s dirty. No running water. Run Down place. Bathrooms are horrible and dirty. Pictures are not corresponding to the situation. Bedrooms are too small and filthy On the whole you can say it‘s a mess!!! Don‘t go There. PS: Finally they tried to charge us twice for our stay!
Thanks to the bartender, we got a little too much on the juju shots. It's a must have, be warned... Don't know what's in that shooter but eat plenty. They did indulge me and my little pup who was to be bored in the car, he had so much fun with the their dogs which kept me from worrying. Thanks for the good evenings and house music.
This is most ideal place to stay in Mombasa if you've been travelling or just want a break from reality. The amenities are amazaing, the stuff are welcoming and friendly. The rooms are always well maintained and the bar is quite lively. The food menus has a good mix of local and western cuisine at an affordable prices. The pool is definitely the highlight as well. All and all, its great place of meet other travels and share stories and experience.
