Welcome to Angama Mara, a remarkable new safari lodge balanced on the rim of Africa’s Great Rift Valley. Inspired by the Swahili word for ‘suspended in mid air,’ Angama Mara seems to float way up above Kenya’s beautiful Maasai Mara Game Reserve. This is a place where everything is just as it ought to be - the sky melts into the endless plains in a vista so wide it takes your breath away.

The starting point was the exceptional friendly service when booking the lodge - I actually cancelled staying somewhere else since they came across so welcoming. We have been on many safaris and though this place is not a Singita type of experience, it is good value for what

Dear John I don't know what delighted me most about your lovely review: the service you received when you were booking or the service you experienced at the lodge. On reflection - both. With so many other wonderful lodges and reserves from which to choose thank you for coming to stay with us. As a South African I totally agree with you about the fabulous game viewing in both the Mara and the Serengeti. Chanel game viewing we call it - lovely endless open grasslands wall to wall with beautiful animals. How lucky we are to share this with our guests. Your feedback on a cake for tea is well noted (we get so few guests wanting this so even though it is not set out a delicious fruitcake and shortbread are available on request - thank you for reminding us to tell our teatime guests). I will also discuss with the chefs about your suggestion with regard to picnics. Thank you for raising that. We all look forward to welcoming you back to the Mara Warmest thanks on behalf of the Angama family Nicky

Dear Jenny Only one word to describe your fabulous review - WOW! You quite simply took my breath away when reading what has to be one of the most wonderful reviews we have ever received. The beauty of your words, the details of your experience and the time you took to share them on TripAdvisor are precious gifts which were received by us all with deep gratitude. With reviews like these who needs a website? You write so beautifully and your enthusiasm for your experience shines through. Thank you for coming to stay with us and I am so happy that you fitted in the full Angama experience in just three days - please stay longer next time. I love it when our guests write about our staff by name - it proves that old adage: 'travellers come to Africa to see the animals but it's the people they return for'. Alice, Lynn, Fred and Adam all join me in sending your their heartfelt thanks for your kind words about them. It is also a great joy to see the Angama Foundation being mentioned - we work quietly at this in the background as it is something that is very much part of who we are and why we do what we do each day: delight guests to make a difference. But always guests first because without them we wouldn't be able to make these small differences in the communities that neighbour us and the Reserve which brings so much meaning to our guests. And I hope you don't mind if we use your Tip Sheet - perfectly summed up and so much more meaningful coming from a guest. Thank you for that lovely summary. Until next time in the Mara My warmest thanks Nicky

Sammy and Wiki join me in thanking you so much for coming to stay with us and for your kind words about our lodge and most especially the 'perfect service'. To be truthful that makes me somewhat nervous as I well know there is always much room for improvement. But thank you. Warm regards Nicky

My husband and I stayed at Angama as the last stop in our Kenya journey. Angama impressed us from the moment we were picked up at the airport to us leaving on the local airstrip for our next adventure. Where do I begin?! First, the accommodations- were stunning to say the least!

Hello Hussain. What email did you use? They are pretty fast, to be honest. And even better when you get both your feet on the ground. Please post request on my private message here and will be happy to assist. Thanks

Hi Full disclosure - I am the owner and CEO of Angama Mara :) You are asking a very valid question - thanks so much for getting in touch. September is not nearly as busy as July or August and there is an excellent chance that the Migration will still be in the Mara (but those pesky millions of wildebeest can evaporate overnight - and then come back). So you should see some crossings and those will be busy but the rest of the Mara Triangle - especially in the lovely southern part towards Tanzania - is relatively quiet. I have done a drive in August and by avoiding the river altogether we only saw 4 other safari vehicles the whole day. The animals are not concerned by the vehicles at all - obviously, we prefer to view them at a respectful distance which is helped by the lovely short grass plains that offer great viewing. One thing I can guarantee in the Mara Triangle any month of the year is fantastic lion viewing - eventually, you may even choose to drive straight on by. The Angama Pride which has its territory just below the lodge numbers more than 20 and they call all night long. With regard to evening drives - guests need to be out of the Reserve by 6.30 so you certainly can enjoy late afternoon early evening drives but not night drives. I hope this answers your questions. We would be delighted to welcome you on your honeymoon next September - we have many romantic surprises up our sleeves! Good luck with the wedding Warm regards Nicky

Thank you for getting in touch with us via TripAdvisor and delighted to hear you are considering coming on safari to the lovely Maasai Mara. I am happy to tell you Angama Mara has full power 24/7 allowing guests to blow dry and straighten their hair (strong hairdryers supplied in every tent). Thanks to our location on the edge of the Rift Valley we are blessed with cool breezes and as such air conditioning is not required but the tented suites all have 2 overhead fans and excellent cross ventilation. Please do not hesitate in sending me any other questions you may have. Looking forward to welcoming you Warm regards Nicky Fitzgerald Owner

Good morning Ann Delighted that you are coming to stay and we very much look forward to welcoming you to our lodge. Thanks so much for getting in touch and herewith answers to your questions: Because we are only 1 deg south of the equator the climate here in Kenya is way more temperate than that of Southern Africa. Early mornings and evenings can be cool so a light jacket/fleece is recommended (no gloves etc needed). We do provide our guests on their game drives with knee blankets and fleece wraps. The days can get warm - today's high is 28 deg C so light cotton clothing is good. We have almost no humidity at all. Please pack sunscreen because we are 2000m above sea level and as such you need to take precautions not to burn. A safari hat or peak cap is a must. I usually wear long sleeved cotton shirts and trousers when out on safari to prevent sunburn. All our tents have lovely views and at this stage, I am not sure if one or both camps will be open during your stay. Please contact me via Enquiries on our website and I will ensure you are beautifully taken care of (I am unable to send my email address using this platform). The Maasai village visit is interesting culturally and a good place for some shopping! But, having said that, it is not for everybody. It is at the end of the day a business and a commercial experience together with a cultural one. Some guests love it - others not so much so. We have heaps of Maasai culture on the property here at the lodge - but it is also good to support local initiatives. I hope I haven't confused you too much! The balloon safari is a fantastic experience - a once in a lifetime. The cost is $480 per person and you can make that decision when you get here. I would highly recommend it. You will see the hot air balloons floating past the lodge - the temptation might almost be too much to resist! Please let me know if there is anything else at all I can help you with. Wishing you a wonderful stay with us Warm regards Nicky Fitzgerald Owner
