Just spent 6 nights with these guys and had a truly awesome time! Staff and hosts, Adrian, Hamish and Shaun are really friendly and helpful, guide Ambrose and spotter ‘Mike’ Eagle Eyes made the trip so memorable, along with Charles. Accommodation very comfortable and really felt we were in the bush! We have never had better game drives in all the years we have been on safari’s. Food delicious and plentiful. Thank you all so much and we will definitely be back! It was also a pleasure to meet Reggie!
Stayed for 10 days in this stunning camp. The tent was so large with hot water and the best was just so comfortable. The camp is surrounded with wild animals, hence you feel in perfect harmony with nature. The food was simply the best I have had in Kenya (though I stayed for quite some time). Breakfast was also the best with an incredible view on hippos or zebras and giraffes crossing the savanna. The guides were the best I have ever had. The use of a private vehicle is also the very best option. Everyone was just so caring and nice. The decoration of the camp is of very good taste, with a stunning view. All the people working there are just the nicest. All this for such a small price is a no-brainer for me! Thank you so much Adrian, Leko, Benson, and everyone else. AFRICA!
My husband and I are just back from an amazing experience at the Speke's Camp. We spent 6 days and 5 nights and each day was filled with wonder. We enjoyed being in a smaller setting than the big camps with many rooms. Our driver and spotter and all around knows everything there is to know about the animals, birds, plants ect Ambrose, added to our perfect experience. Would highly recommend this camp and also recommend to fly into the closest airport and not drive from Nairobi. That way you have more time to see the animals and birds. This was a trip I will never forget. The wonderful staff took such good care of us. Delicious food, most of came from their garden.
Our stay at Speke's Camp exceeded our wildest expectations. The staff was welcoming and helpful, the tent was spacious and comfortable, and the food was outstanding. Our safari guide and spotter, Ambrose and Sola, were fantastic - extremely knowledgeable, flexible, and fun to spend time with. They knew where to find the animals and went out of their way to ensure we had a comprehensive and enjoyable 4 days on the savannah. One of the most remarkable things about Speke's was the food. It was some of the best food we've had in recent memory - the chef cooked amazing Mediterranean, Indian, American, and breakfast food, as well as scrumptious snacks and desserts. Every meal was delicious, and Gordon made sure everything was served fresh and accompanied perfectly. It’s clear how much he loves what he does, and how much he cares about each guest feeling welcomed and at home. The owner of the camp, Adrian, was there when we visited, and we enjoyed getting to know him and learning more about the camp. If you're looking to visit the Mara, we can't recommend Speke's Camp highly enough! Thank you to all of the incredible individuals who helped make our stay truly unforgettable!…
Wonderful camp that make our safari really special. Warm friendly and super service from the staff. Rooms have a authentic and cosy feel, main areas really nicely designed and accommodating. Location of the camp is adjacent to river and forested banks giving the real experience of living amongst the wildlife, just wonderful.
Wonderful time at a beautifully situated and appointed lodge in the Mara. Gracious host and knowledgeable guides made it a truly memorable experience. Delicious food and stunning sundowner locations added to the experience.
This is the best camp to stay if you want to see the wildlife simply because the game drives are all private and the guides are really really good. Your paired with a spotter and a driver and I think the system works well because we saw everything and in some cases, other cars were trying to follow us to catch up. We were assigned Leko as our driver and Benson as our spotter. They were amazing. Leko is really entertaining and Benson was able to spot things miles away. Wow. They're both Masai and dressed traditionally. We also loved that they seemed as excited to see animals as we were and made the drives a lot of fun. We also spent hours out there, but the time went quickly in part to that energy. In the Mari, the most elusive animal to see is the leopard and not only did our guides find a family, but they found a spot where the leopard and it's cub literally walked out of the trees and right up to our car - unbelievable! Of course the other cars had given up earlier but it shows our guides were some of the best. The camp itself isn't as luxurious as some other ones - yes, there's bucket showers but it's really not a big deal. Food was simple but excellent and the owner/host, Adrian, was there to entertain us every night over dinner. He's a real character and we looked forward to catching up every night. Overall, amazing stay and highly recommended if your looking to do a proper safari and see a lot of wildlife! …
We stayed at Speke's for 4 nights in October - husband, 2 teens and I. Half of us have been to Kenya before and are very well travelled. This is likely the best place I have stayed in the world. The accommodation, setting, the people, the atmosphere were faultless. Food for even a fussy veggie was spectacular. Would highly recommend and would return in a heartbeat (as long as we could have Lecko and Benson for our safari team as they were just brilliant). Staff arranged hot air ballon trip for us and anticipated our every need. Leaky and Fred were terrific. It was quiet, atmospheric and our animal viewing way exceeded expectations. It is described as basic but was extremely comfortable and really beautiful. Also felt safe despite the lack of fences. Wonderful sounds of nature through the night. Masai askari (guards) were appreciated for night safety. Don't be put off by it being outside the national park as the viewing starts from the tents all the way to the park (you don't know when you actually enter the park anyway). Had worried about our 2 teens being bored, but they were both thrilled by it all - didn't even discover the Wifi tent until our last night. Oh, and the safari vehicles were very comfy and it really was a good idea to have them private - especially when stopping in the wilderness for picnic lunch or breakfast, or sundowners - so special!! Hope to return!!…
Spekes Camp is described as “basic.” That probably is based on not having hot and cold running water for sinks in the tents, nor permanent buildings for eating and lounging. We loved it! The staff were engaging and helpful at every turn, and brought water to the tent early in the morning, so it was just fine. The tents were spacious and comfortable, and even though the water was brought to the tent for the sinks, there were flush toilets and showers that made it very comfortable. The food and wine were absolutely first class, as was the service. The big plus was the ambiance. Lounge areas, the library, and dining were all in various tents, and the furnishings were warm and comfortable, even a bit eclectic in places. We felt like we had a glimpse of what a luxury safari would look like 50 years ago, and it was delightful. The owner, Adrian, took care to speak to his guests and make them feel welcome, on top of the work of his excellent staff. While the feeling was from a previous era, there was a Wi-Fi tent if you felt the need. All very well done. Having a dedicated guide and spotter in our own vehicle was nice, and they were very adept at spotting game even if very far away. It might have been enjoyable to occasionally eat in a group setting rather than on our own in one of several dining tents, but that was balanced by the elegant settings, including candelabras (real candles) to light our table. We would go back to Spekes in a heartbeat.…
We have never done anything like this before and weren’t too sure what to expect. This is a fantastic camp. Everyone made us feel so welcome and we were looked after extremely well from start to finish. Our driver Ambrose and Masai spotter James were incredible and can spot lions from what seemed like miles away. They kept us fed and watered whilst out on the road. I’m the camp Gordon always welcomed us ‘home’, provided plenty of food and drinks and always a huge smile. Our room boy Leeky made sure we got our morning coffee, bucket shower (which is much better than it sounds) and hot water bottle at night. The animals come so close to the camp but not in a way that would cause concern. I still can’t believe the animals we saw and how close we got to them. If you have time, a visit to the local school and a Masai village were unforgettable. …
