Governors' IL Moran Camp is small and intimate. Located right in the heart of the Masai Mara Game Reserve, this small luxurious camp is hidden under ancient trees, deep in the forest on the banks of the Mara River. 10 spacious tents line the winding river banks of the Mara River. With the best game viewing right on your doorstep game drives and game walks are included in the rate. Governors has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in the Mara since 1972. We were the first operators to be permanently based inside the Mara, our site was chosen for its prime location and was the designated “getaway” for the Governors of Kenya. Unfenced and right in the heart of the action. Our camps are Located in some of the best and most precious Wildlife Locations in the world. We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of safari, while placing the care of the environment, community and conservation at the heart of everything we do.

Well where does one start with this place. It is truly a magical place, the setting is fantastic, right next to the Mara river whre hippos and corcodiles rule. There is always something to look at. With only 10 tents, did I say tents, they are extremely spacious and luxurious with modern amenities and an excellent en suite, that would be the envy of many a hotel. We had an amazing time from the moment we stepped of the plane to the moment we left. We were made extremely welcome by Patrick upon our arrival. The attention to detail by all of the staff is out of this world. It is quite unfair to single out any of the staff as they all (without exception) are a credit to themselves and the camp, after all they are what make the visitors stay so memeorable. Where else would you get simple touches such as a hot water bottle placed in your bed during the evening whilst you have a meal and drinks or be woken early in the morning (5.30am) with a welcoming smile and a cup of tea or beverage of your choice. My wife and I were just amazed at the standard of the food, we just dont know how the chef managed to deliver 5 star food at every meal every day, it was fantastic. The game drives were great, there were two games drives every day, one early in the morning and one in the afternoon. The guides are exceptional with their knowledge and ability to find all of the animals. It should be said that no two game drives are the same and each one has its own unique experience's. Having said this there is only one thing left to say and that is thank you to all of the staff for a wonderfull and memorable time.

Wow what can I say. Words are simply not enough to describe how simply fantastic this camp is. From the moment we stepped off the plane until we left there was adventure. Patrick, who is very attentive, has an amazing team of staff who will go above and beyond for each guest. Lilian, the chef, made sure she liaised with my partner, who has dietary issues, to ensure the meals were suitable for him. Kerore, our driver and guide was the best. His knowledge of the animals and Masai was astounding and we certainly learned lots from him in our time there. He always managed to find where the action was and I especially enjoyed the sundowners with him surrounded by the magical wildlife and scenery. Each drive was different and to see the animals close up on their natural habitat was just out of this world. Then onto the camp, it is truly breathtaking! The first glimpse of our tent nestling next to the river, which was home to hippos, is certainly a memory that I will cherish. The dining room, lounges and decking area are very comfortable and decorated tastefully. Having breakfast and lunch overlooking the river watching the hippos and warthogs was certainly an experience. The little touches, such as the hot water bottle in the bed, the laundry service and the little farewell gift on our last night, among many others, makes this camp stand out from the crowd. I cannot recommend this place enough and certainly hope to return one day. It was definitely the best holiday of my life and felt very sad to leave. Thank you all so much for making my special birthday holiday one of a lifetime and all that I could of dreamed of and so much more.

Many people think of Glamping as a nicer way of camping. Il Moran takes it to a whole new level. From the moment we arrived and met by the camp manager with welcoming drinks, to the moment we left and she saw us off at the local airfield, we were made to feel special. The "tents" are huge, with every ameticy adn facility you could expect. Event a mini bar, where they ask what you want it filled with, rather than the generic miniautres of branded alcohol and a can of beer. The bed was huge, the sitting area was more than comfortable and the external seating was amazing, with a view directly onto a corner of the Mara where the hippos like to rest. The bathroom was unexpected, with walk in shower, flushing toilet and a large bath and twin basins, the sort fo thing you woudl expect in any 5* hotel, but in a tent. The food was excellent, the bar well stocked with decent whisky, gins and vodka, rather than your "supermarket specials". The staff were faultless, freindly and professional. They have their own water plant (reverse osmosis) there, so they provide you with a water bottle to keep and you can refill everyday, without worrying about the quality of the water or using plastic bottles. This trip was special for us as we were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. On the day of our anniversary, we were greeted at our tent with a wake up call and a pot of tea at 5am and then taken off to the launch site. The staff helped me as much as possible to get into the basket as one of my legs doesn't work very well. The ride over the Mara watching the sunrise was really something special. When we landed, we were met and joined a few others for a Champagne breakfast (everything cooked on demand in the open) and then continued on a private game drive, for just me and my wife. In the evening at dinner, we were exhausted and then a number of Masia people entered the restaurant area, singing and playing instruments. When the chef then brought out a cake for us, we realised this performance was all for us. Overwhelming and emotional, with a bottle of Champagne then opened for us with the compliments of the management. Our driver/guide was introduced to us for the next few days, Enos, a wonderful guy, great sense of humour and great knowledge. He really looked after us and with him we saw every animal we hoped to see, prides of lions, herds of many elephants and a complete surprise when he said the migration had started early this year and he would take us to the Tanzania border and see if we can see the wildebeest crossing. He was very patient that day and we had lunch near to the crossing, but far enough away to see if the wildebeest started heading that way. He was right and we witnessed one of nature's most exclusive events. I could write for hours on this place, and we were only there for 3 days. It was outstanding in every way; location, people, staff, food, drinks etc etc. We were made to feel very special. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU. We will definitely see you again.

Oh my goodness, there are no words for this place. It is truly magical! The best four days ever. So, our guide, Duncan, was excellent. We would mention upon meeting him before the game drive that we would like to see elephants or leopards etc and an hour later there we are with them! His knowledge was great. The cars were great and only had four seats so not over crowded and never had to fight to see the animals. We went at the end of May and it was only us and one other couple in the camp so it felt so private and intimate. Even if it is full there are only ten tents. The Tents are HUGE! And the setting just incredible. Hippos in the river literally right outside your tent! Food was amazing, very simple but fresh and delicious. Staff could not do more for you and was great to chat with them about the Mara and Kenya. We did the hot air balloon trip which we could also not recommend highly enough, amazing experience with different views of the Mara and you land to a champagne breakfast with eggs and a crepe station in the middle of the bush! Fab. Would definitely recommend il Moran to anyone, it is worth every penny. Thank you to everyone at Governors in particular Patrick and Duncan!
