About
Description
Governors' Camp nestles on the banks of the Mara River in the heart of the most prolific game viewing area of the Masai Mara. One of only a handful of camps located within the Masai Mara Game Reserve the setting is More magical. Half of the tents overlook the rolling grasslands of Africa, with views of elephant, zebra and gazelle; the rest are tucked away in the forest lining the banks of the Mara River. Governors has been pioneering immersive and transformational safaris in the Mara since 1972. We were the first operators to be permanently based inside the Mara, our site was chosen for its prime location and was the designated “getaway” for the Governors of Kenya. Unfenced and right in the heart of the action. Our camps are Located in some of the best and most precious Wildlife Locations in the world. We are a family with a colourful cast of characters that embodies the spirit of safari, while placing the care of the environment, community and conservation at the heart of everything we do. Less

Governors Camp is a brilliant base from which to see all the amazing wildlife in the Masai Mara, literally on your doorstep. No fences, just wide open spaces so that animals can and do just wander through your camp. We stayed in tent 37 with the Mara literally in front of us. We

It's hard to put into words how much I loved Governor's Camp. I was a little teary when our plane took off from the airstrip heading back to Nairobi after our 3 night stay. The entire experience was extraordinarily perfect. I like flying, so the plane journey there was good fun,

Hi we are thinking of travelling in April. What animals are we likely to see then ?
We couldn’t spot Rhinos, leopards although the drivers of the safari vehicle claim to have seen them a few hours or days earlier! Could see some small batches of elephants and giraffes but not in great numbers! Yes, Lions in great numbers, hyenas, antelopes, hippos galore! Heard Kruger park is much more to offer in terms of wild life. There’s a wild life park right in the middle of Nairobi that offers the same delight as of Masai Mara. Except the governor’s camp that offers top luxuries that comes with a cost, I would think of satisfaction with Nairobi park itself.

Hi. We saw lions (the same ones three times)but no cheetah. One giraffe. Elephants once. We had been to intrepid camp a few years ago and there was much more wildlife and variety on the drives.

We just got back from governors camp about a month ago. It was awesome. We saw a lot of wildlife saw lots of lions and 5 cheetahs. I was just wondering is it commen to see lions and cheetahs at governors camp? The great migration was not there unfortunately but when it is there do you have to drive far to see the migration crossing?

Lions, absolutely! Governor’s camp was the base for Nat Geo’s Big Cat Diary so prides of lions are known to be plentiful, we also saw lots of lions, multiple prides, multiple times. Cheetah, according to your guide are not as common to spot... we also got quite lucky in seeing 2, including a watching one chase and kill a gazelle! It was exhilarating! Governors is a great location in Masai Mara for big cat sighting to be sure!
