We had only 1 night in Rekero. But what a day / night it was. The tented camp is perfectly positioned within the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Close to crossings, migration, lions and everything else. A very special place staffed by the most special people from manager to waiters. Tent was luxurious and new shower system worked well. Chef was... More

Our stay in Rekero Camp was a perfect introduction for us on our first safari and visit to Kenya. The entire staff was excellent, meals always nutritious and delicious, and our comfortable and spacious tent accommodations gave us a beautiful view of the river and wildlife. Our safari guide skillfully guided our adventures with in-depth knowledge of the wildlife, plants,... More

This was our first visit to the Mara and we were a little apprehensive because of everything we'd heard about the Mara being ridiculously busy and overcrowded. It was a little overrun with vehicles whenever there was a sighting but there was a sense of good nature about it. If you have any reservations about the Mara then don't. It... More

Rekero Camp was out first encounter with the Masai Mara. We could not have dreamed up a better or more serene location. It is not every day that you manage to watch wildlife all day and sleep to the sound of water (never mind a resident herd of hippos just going about their daily lives) in Africa. The location is... Rekero is absolutely brilliantly positioned on the river to see animals crossing as part of the Great Migration . We saw quite a few crossings as we simply sat eating breakfast on the lawn or were looking at the view. There are nine tents and they were all full when we were there. It is obviously a very popular place... More

Our second camp experience with Africa and safari. ( we came from Naboisho, our first stop on this trip.) Simply out of this world! We cannot say enough about Asilia, TrueAfrica, the agency that arranged it all, and Rekero Camp itself. Asilia, the company that runs Rekero and other camps in Kenya and Tanzania, shows great respect for the land... More

Our family enjoyed three nights at Rekero this past March. The setting along the river is lovely. At night you can hear the hippos call to each other! The tents are clean and comfortable. The service is excellent and we enjoyed all meals. I recommend Rekero to anyone who wants a comfortable tent experience in the Mara.

Rekero Camp was our first safari camp experience in Masai Mara in February 2016. It was amazing to have our first safari experience with them because the people of Rekero is what makes the experience magical & truly unforgettable -- the warm & efficient Camp Managers, Stace & Peter, to their staffs: Brothers Edwin & Vincent, servers Samuel & Stanley... Rekero Camp was our first stop on our March 2016 safari in the Massai Mara. We were picked up at the Olkiombo Airstrip by our guide, dan, a very personable, young Masai. On the way to our camp we saw elephants, hippos, lions, and a multitude of antelopes. At the camp, which is situated on an embankment of a river,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Rekero overlooks an ancient animal river crossing point in the Maasai Mara. A front row seat to witness the spectacular annual migration awaits you. Rekero has a long and proud history in the Mara that lends to it a depth of character and low-key authenticity that is the hallmark of this luxury tented camp. Rekero is enfolded in wilderness, the camp nestles under huge deciduous trees, hippos grunt in the pools below the mess deck, the fragrance of wild sage floats on the air and guests can often watch the migration crossing the Talek River just 50 meters from the camp lawn. Warm, hospitable and intimate, with a guiding team widely recognised as being the best in Kenya, Rekero offers an unsurpassed Maasai Mara safari experience. The camp caters for up to 20 guests in nine tents, two of which are family tents, laid out under shady trees along the river's edge. The spacious tents have been designed combining the traditional bush style with a fresh modern feel focusing on attention to detail. All tents have en-suite bathrooms with flush toilets and showers. Each tent also has a large verandah with a day bed for relaxing after game drives and is attended by a personal butler. The camp has two common areas under canvas for guest dining and relaxation. The larger area is surrounded by shady trees and lush lawn while the smaller area is built on a platform extending over the river bank. Mariana Kathini, who worked with the Asilia team at Naboisho Camp for nearly 4 years, manages Rekero Camp. She is a bright, cheerful and outgoing person who, together with a team of highly-skilled guides, have helped make Rekero one of the Mara's top camps. Guides and camp crew have worked together for many years and provide guests with an in depth and truly authentic Maasai Mara experience. Every year the camp is closed for two months to allow the bush to regenerate and the wildlife to return to the site, leaving a fresh and recovered wilderness for the next dramatic season. ... more   less
