This lodge is quite far from Nairobi, requiring 1+ hour flying and several stops on the way to reach the very border with Tanzania. The location is stunning as well the tented camp (unfenced!) that hosts not more that 20 guests and sometimes elephants, lions and monkeys. But don't worry: the Masai are there to protect you! =) The game...

My wife and I spent the last 2 days on safari in Sand River, where we were welcomed as we arrived by Johan the manager. Gracious, knowledgeable, friendly, and a very interesting man. He and his wife have managed quite a few of the Elewana Collection properties, and he had stories from all of them. He introduced us to Joseph...

Sand river is superb, and we now realize that we much prefer unfenced camps as it is so exciting to hear lions mating next to your tent one night and another night elephants pruning the facilities around your tent while rubbing and grunting right next to your tent👏👍❗🐘🐘🐘 Peter the executive chef is fantastic and made very creative dishes for...

What a fantastic place for Safari Holiday. We stayed for 3 nights and saw everything we could expect from a safari. Our guide Akiba was very good and caring. We saw the big 5 and more. The camp is located in heavily populated animals. Almost every night we heard lions roaring just behind our family tent number 1. We woke...

Thank you for taking the time to post this wonderful review about your recent stay at Sand River Masai Mara. Sand River Masai Mara is indeed a rare gem, with it's unique location overlooking the Sand River on the migration route for the millions of wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle that move between Serengeti and Maasai Mara every year. Thank you very much for taking the time to write such a glowing review of the Sand River Masai Mara. The camp is located in a secluded area of the Masai Mara National Reserve, far from other properties so guests enjoy a truly “exclusive” safari. The Masai Mara National Reserve is also renowned for the spectacular wildebeest migration and is...

Animals including elephants and lions may check in and you are escorted at night to your tent. The rainy season was on its way, giving us a variety of experiences to see wildlife...naturally: lions protecting their territory, leopards lazing in trees, wildebeasts migrating with zebras, even dung beetles pushing their gathering up an incline. Newton, the outstanding Ranger going for his gold rating, even showed us lionesses playing with a balled up pangolin. Joseph, the butler, treated...

Thank you for your great review! The Masai Mara is a constantly changing ecosystem, especially at this time of the year, with the onset of the rains. In fact the rains this year, having arrived ahead of schedule, have resulted in some of the Migration herds deciding to stay behind and enjoy the early grazing - and this in turn...
