This is a high end lodge located on the river separating Kenya from Tanzania. Very friendly and helpful staff. Huge luxurious tent suites. Animals including elephants and lions may check in and you are escorted at night to your tent. For the safaris, our guide Mohamed proved to be knowledgeable and astute at finding animals while simultaneously negotiating the rough paths...

It was an incredible stay at Sand River Masai Mara. It way surpassed our high expectations. We loved staying in the midst of the reserve with animal sightings and sounds all around us. Our excellent guide Akiba led us to a great variety of wildlife including 5 different lion experiences. All of the staff made us feel special. What a...

The rainy season was on its way, giving us a variety of experiences to see wildlife...naturally: lions protecting their territory, leopards lazing in trees, wildebeasts migrating with zebras, even dung beetles pushing their gathering up an incline. Newton, the outstanding Ranger going for his gold rating, even showed us lionesses playing with a balled up pangolin. Joseph, the butler, treated...

Thank you for your great review! The Masai Mara is a constantly changing ecosystem, especially at this time of the year, with the onset of the rains. In fact the rains this year, having arrived ahead of schedule, have resulted in some of the Migration herds deciding to stay behind and enjoy the early grazing - and this in turn...

We really enjoyed staying at Sand River. The setting along the river is fantastic. The luxurious tents are amazing. George and his staff are friendly and attentive. The meals were very good. Sitting around the fire pit with other guests retelling the day's sightings was fun. Our guide Jonathan was well informed and relentless in making sure we saw the...

Dear David & Dina, Thank you very much for your great review of our little piece of paradise in the Masai Mara! We really are fortunate to have all of the Big 5 in such close proximity - let alone the beauty of our location. Your visit was definitely too short - although that just gives you every good reason...

Lovely permanent tented camps on the Sand River. We had two prides of lions within 1/4 mile of camp. Since the camp is not fenced, animals roamed freely day and night. However you felt very safe as the animals didn't seem to bother coming in the tents. Food and staff were wonderful and did every thing possible to make our...

Thank you for your review! We're so pleased that you got to "meet" and enjoy our resident prides. The two boys with their bevy of three females are becoming more and more relaxed around the Camp, and it is indeed wonderful to listen to them calling from very close by, whilst knowing that you are completely safe inside your tent!...

This is an exceptional hotel. My wife and I were recommended to stay here by a business associate and we were not disappointed. The rooms are beautiful and the setting is nothing short of magical. To give you an idea of how great this place is, while enjoying a late afternoon beer (all inclusive of course) I sat and watched...

Thank you for your great review, in which you have aptly numbered some of the many aspects we are very fortunate to have at Sand River; an outstanding location, phenomenal wildlife, and some great Guides! There is little that beats sitting down, having a sundowner with a group of elephants feeding in close proximity. We're finding at the moment that...

Thank you for your "short and to the point" - but great - review! It takes a combination of a number of factors to achieve a successful safari, and we are very fortunate with how these come together at Sand River; our location, our team, and the wildlife that makes the Masai Mara so famous, all combine to form a...

I have been there 3 times now and am planning to return again next year. Everything about Sand River Mara is class. Accomodation, food, service, service is all world standard. The location is also superb, being out of the way of the high traffic areas but still seeing an abundance of wildlife. George is doing a wonderful job maintaining the...

Dear Michael, It was great to have you back with us at Sand River, I really enjoyed meeting and getting to know you. The Sand River experience was a fantastic one for my family and me. The exceptional experience started when we were greeted by Newton, our driver/guide at the Mara airstrip. This lodge is probably the best you can expect to live the sabannah experience in Masai Mara. The tents are decorated with very good taste and Indonesian materials (5 star) and are also pretty spacious, with an outdoors deck to have, for example, a glass of wine at sunset.
