Detailed Reviews
We stayed 3 nights at the Osero Lodge for our 4 day Masai Mara safari. Our tour company gave us this lodge as an option among 15-20 choices. I researched each one of them and chose Osero based on reviews, location and amenities. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and two girls, 7-9 years old). We stayed in February which is mid-season and there were only 3 groups at the resort which made it feel quiet and exclusive.
We arrived on a Monday afternoon from Nairobi and we were shocked by its beauty and the quality and character of the people working there. We were greeted with a delicious lunch under a tree in the garden before our afternoon safari. Chance was our server and he made our stay very enjoyable and pleasant.
The tents are fantastic: very big, very clean, nice beds with mosquito nets, wood floors and big bathrooms with real toilets, tiled showers with abundant warm water, dual sinks and big mirrors. We used the available bathrobes and slippers and the safe in the room. Everyday the room (tent) was cleaned and beds were made.
The pool was a lot of fun, a bit cold but what can you expect at 1800m elevation.
The resort grounds were beautifully manicured, surrounded by wildlife (kept out by an electric fence). The road to the resort is a little rough but we didn't have any difficulty in our tour guide's jeep, it felt like any other safari road. We saw so many animals in and out of the resort every day including a troop of 19 giraffes on our last day!
The restaurant was amazing, every meal was incredible! Many reviewers comment on the soup, true, its amazing, so was every other meal! Breakfast was delicious, the packed lunches were delicious, and the 4 course dinners were delicious!!!
One evening we had a dance from the resident Masai boys, that was very fun as they invited everyone up to jump with them.
The people working at the lodge are simply amazing! When booking, I mentioned to our tour operator that our youngest daughter would be turning 8 years old on the day we were leaving, she passed that information along to the lodge staff so after our last breakfast the Masai people at the lodge along with the chef and the whole staff brought out a cake to sing her birthday in traditional Masai fashion. They sang and danced for 30 minutes, we jumped together and they dressed her up like a local Masai girl. It was an absolutely magical experience that we will never forget. We will not be able to top this birthday for a long time.
Osero Lodge was amazing. We travel extensively and I don't leave many reviews, but based on our experience at Osero I feel I have to share what a gem of a place this is. Kenya is a stunning country, the people are kind and welcoming and Osero embodies this perfectly. It's very out of the way, but we will go back to Osero.

We stayed at this lodge for three nights whilst of safari in the Masai Mara and throughly enjoyed our time there. From arrival it was instantly clear that this is a small lodge where the staff make a real effort to look after you in a friendly caring manner. The tented room which is on a hard solid floor base was very comfortable and exceptionally clean, only yards from the elephants and giraffe as they walk past grazing makes for a special location.
We were on full board during our stay and the food was all very good with a reasonable choice available for each meal. We had one packed lunch for our full day safari which was also very good and enjoyable. Refillable flasks of chilled drinking water were provided every day and much appreciated.

We were among Osero’s first guests for their reopening after Covid closures. This small yet well appointed lodge is very pleasant and easy to stay at. The staff could not be faulted for their friendliness, service and efficiency. Food was tasty, homely and generously portioned, and we were always offered extra portions if hungry. Our room was spacious and well appointed, toiletries were top notch. The grounds are lovely, especially around the pool. We did have some trouble with hot water, it just needs to be pumped for a while before use. Also, network coverage is poor so avoid trying to pay with credit card whilst at the property. Otherwise, we had a lovely stay.

Osero means forest in Masai, and the lodge is indeed located in mixed acacia forest 20 min from the park entrance. Our two nights here are among the best memories from the whole 8-day safari in Kenya. The staff is genuinely friendly and welcoming. It was cold here in August, and they placed hot water bottles in our beds to warm them up for us! Delicious 4-course lunches and dinners are served at the table – most other lodges serve buffet. There are only 10 tents in Osero, making it very intimate. Lions roared just outside the electric fence in the night, adding to the African experience. We warmly recommend this “mid-range” lodge, where you feel like a royalty while in the middle of the most beautiful nature in the world.

I cannot say enough good things about this lodge! I’m not even kidding! We are 2 women traveling alone, kind of picky about lodging (not the “roughing it” type :), and vegan, so it’s not easy to make us happy and we didn’t want to leave this lodge because they were THAT GOOD! The staff are what makes it so amazing! It’s a smaller lodge so the staff truly gives you their time and attention. So friendly and personable. Agnes, the manager, is a true saint! You can tell she, and the wait staff (Irene & others), love to make their guests happy. We needed a 4am wake up call for a hot air balloon excursion and Agnes had coffee, snacks, and cake(!) waiting for us for breakfast before we left. The porters walked us to our tents every evening to help us feel safe and were always waiting to help with our luggage. One of us is vegan and the chef prepared custom dishes just for her! Every meal was brought to us at the table. And let me tell you… the food…was 4 courses of perfection every single time! The tents were more like 4 to 5 star hotel rooms! They were so nice with mosquito nets (we really didn’t need it, but it was so nice to have them just in case). They even put hot water bottles in our beds every evening to keep us warm. We accidentally left a bag behind and they even tracked us down, 6 hours away, to make sure we could get it back. From top to bottom, Osero is by far my favorite tented lodge in Kenya!! We are definitely coming back to see Agnes and her staff again! And referring all of our friends and family. They made Maasai Mara amazing for us! We love them! Stay there if you can!

We just spent three amazing nights at this hidden gem of a resort. The accommodations are perfect! It is a genuine safari bush experience to stay here. Each “tent” is isolated for privacy, great showers and tiled bathroom. Mosquito netted post beds and the hot water added to your evening turn down service is an amazing touch. The dining facility was wonderful and the food - every meal - was fantastic. But what really sets this place into a top tier destination is the staff! They were so friendly, so accommodating and attentive to our needs we were just overwhelmed by how great they were. The Masai warriors accompany you to and from your tents when it’s dark because of the real potential for lions in the camp! One morning going to breakfast in the dark the Masai stopped us, and told us that sound we had just heard was a hyena. Then the next sound was the low guttural soundings of a nearby lion. That same day as we exited the Osero Camp in the safari jeep just two minutes from the camp gate, we found ourselves in the middle of a pack of about 15 elephants. If you are looking for the best experience in Masai Mara I would recommend Osero for the five star staff, location, accommodations, food and genuine warmth of that entire team. From Mary and Agnes at the front desk to Peter in the dining room and all of the many others who took care of us - Asante! Thank you!

My husband and I spent 2 fabulous nights at Osero Lodge and all staff could not have been more welcoming or more helpful. From our first 4-course lunch under an acacia tree on the lawn - watched by a cheeky monkey on the boundary, to hot water bottles in our beds in the evenings and the wonderful Masai dancers, we were superbly looked after at all times. It was just magical to be so far out in the wilderness and so close to all the wild animals one only usually sees in zoos or on TV. A visit to the local Masai village was also a highlight, along with seeing the BIG FIVE on one day, thanks to our incredible guide and driver, Julius, organised for us by Soul of Tanzania tours. We couldn't fault them on anything. An experience not to be missed.

We loved it here. So glad we made this choice. We wanted a smaller, quieter camp, and that is what we got. The food was amazing too, 4 courses each meal. They took our order daily based on what fresh produce they received, and they adjusted the menu for our needs as well. Very tasty, beautiful presentation of food. The Masai Security were lovely walking us to and from our tent. Agnes ran the front office and kitchen so well. The pool area is very beautiful. The tents are HUGE and the bathrooms are very big too. Would stay here again.

This is a great place to stay. Staff are welcoming and the accomodation is FABULOUS. Only draw back was having to go through individual registration immediately on arrival before we could go to our tent, after a very long drive when they had all this information already. The canvas of your "tent" belies the unbelievably luxurious rooms behind! Fantastic. The dinner and breakfasts were substantial and very good. Staff lovely. Didn't spend much time at the venue as were out on safari, but the facilities looked good too.

We just spent three nights at Osero: it was terrific in every way and the staff were outstanding. The rooms are lovely and you certainly aren’t roughing it in any way. Very pretty grounds and elephants were at the front door yesterday morning. So restful, great food. This is a smaller, personalized lodge and we would highly recommend. Asante sana!
