About

#60 of 172 Specialty lodging in Maasai Mara National Reserve
Travelers' Choice
Emboo River is located in a river bend within the Maasai Mara National Reserve. All rooms and common areas overlook the water, so you could spot hippos bathing or elephants drinking right in front of your room. Did you know that we are going full ECO?! Emboo River is the first in the Maasai Mara with electric safari vehicles! The vehicles make no noise and do not have exhaust fumes. You can get up close to the animals and enjoy the sounds of nature. In the Maasai Mara there are so many animals to see throughout the year and Emboo River's expert guides are happy to show you around! Even within the lodge lucky guests can spot animals, because Emboo River is unfenced and located within a forest.

Everything in this camp makes sense! Exellent staff, everything solar-powered, even the game drives! Accomodation and Catering on the highest level. I especially liked the huge choice of vegan dishes on the menu! With this sustainable concept I can really enjoy Kenya's nature without destroying or disturbing it!

Aside from the incredible hospitality, beautiful camp, fun owners and amazing food, the real icing on the cake is their ELECTRIC land cruisers. This makes the entire safari experience so much better because the vehicles are completely silent. You just glide through the grass and are able to get much closer and have more intimate experiences with the animals. No other camp in the Mara offers the electric land cruisers which makes Emboo Camp a no brainer. They're also the first carbon neutral camp in the Mara which is a nice bonus.

Emboo River Camp ticks all the boxes of a beautiful travel experience. From the minute you’re picked up by one of their electric safari cars- the only one of its kind in the Mara- which makes for a smooth and silent ride into the camp. You’re then greeted with warm smiles of the team and you proceed to clean your hands on their traditional Maasai tippy tap. They’ve got green/beige tents all round the camp that blend with the environment so you can hardly spot them amidst the trees. It’s a simple luxurious experience staying in the camp. Large, clean tents with a beautiful lounge area. Creative staff who surprise with different dining spots around the camp, then the most fun part; which is the eco-walk where you get to learn about how the camp maintains its zero carbon state - from its use of a bio digester to its solar panels, an organic lagoon and 100% chemical free swimming pool. Absolutely amazing work by the emboo team. Highly recommend this green haven in the heart of the Maasai Mara!

We spent 2 nights at Emboo River in the Massai Mara in Kenya. While having the highest level of standard for a very reasonable price, Emboo stands out for being the only 100% eco-lodge in the Mara: here safari cars are electric powered by the sun, all water is recycled and all food comes from their own garden. Led by an amazing Kenyan team with a lot of experience it is perfect from lodging to food and activities. It is the only camp I would recommend for any one coming to the Massai Mara
