We received a great welcome on arrival and thought the briefing and introduction from all the staff was great, making for a friendly environment. The game drives were well-organised and there was a good balance between trips out and time to ourselves. January appears to be a great time to go as the weather is good, lots of animals to... More

I've been there in 2006 in a 3days-2nights flight excursion from Watamu. During same vacation i spent 5 days and 4 nights among other parks of Kenya and everything was perfect. We had some problems in first game and we asked to go in Game reserve instead turning around in conservation area without a task or better without a guide... More

The journey was really long, although we did saw amazing animals passing us by, we snapped pictures along to the accommodation. The reception was lovely, they gave us cold drinks and cold towel to ease in a hot weather. We saw a lot of hippos lazy about outside the accomodation, we actually can see them across from our room. We... More

I booked a 2 night safari at this lodge through Abdul from Tundra tours in Watamu and it was all I expected and more. The staff are all very friendly, the food excellent and a good choice available, and the rooms although basic are very clean and comfortable. The location is superb with hippos on your doorstep, although they can... More

Do not pay for a safari through the "beach boys" on bamburi beach, especially through "samson" of a company that call themselves either "North Coast Safaris" or "Mombasa North tours and travell" They will rob you blind and just ignore you when you go back to them with your complaints.

Our experience at the David Livingstone Safari Lodge started well and got better. We arrived by light aircraft and were welcomed by staff with a cold flannel and a lovely fresh glass of mango juice. We were taken to the rooms. We had specifically asked for interconnecting rooms as we have young-ish children and although we had not been allocated... More

My husband and I spent 2 nights at the lodge in September, flying in from Mombasa. (The flight passes Kilimanjaro which is great!). I would recommend travelling to the Masai Mara for safari because the lions (in particular) are just amazing. The lodge itself is nice, food amazing and the staff are so friendly - especially the Manager, Chris. We... More

This is a great place to stay, by the masai river with the hippos coming in and out. The food was great too, the driver for the safari (John) made sure we saw the big 5 in the short stay we had. The staff are open to any requests you may have and the manager Chris is allways around to... More

This was the first leg in our 2 week trip to Kenya. Travelling in a big group (14), arrival on a private landing strip just outside the resort. Warm welcome with a cold towel. With a large group all the rooms were pre-allocated. Especially great with the kids who want to dump their bags and explore. Explore, they did, with... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mara River Lodge commands one of most spectacular views in the Serengeti - Mara ecosystem; the lodge lies on the Mara River at the edge of Maasai Mara Game Reserve and overlooks deep pools where crocodiles and hippos bask all day. Painted in traditional Maasai red ochre and lit by hundreds of lanterns, the lodge is surrounded by indigenous trees and plants and is an attractive complement to the local environment. Guests can see hippos across the river from their tables as they sit down to enjoy the international cuisine on offer. Families of hippos spend their days basking in the deep pools beyond the bars and restaurant throughout the day. After a hot day's safari Maasai warriors in full regalia greet guests as they return to their 'bush home'. ... more   less
