Ought to be the best place to see the hippos around the area. There are 200 hippos chilling at the river right in front of the hotel! You can see them from the restaurant, and at night, you can see them come out from the water all together! Staffs are accommodative and friendly, and food is good. Room is clean...

I feel bad leaving it four stars, but I can't give 5 to all of them! The location is fantastic, set on the bend of the Mara river where hundreds of hippos hang out. My brother in law recorded the hippos to use as his ring tone :) The property is huge, and the grounds are well kept. The rooms...

The restaurant overlooks a large pool with upwards of 150 hippo - so it's easy viewing, especially at dusk as the hippos start to get more active. The hotel rooms are a bit dated and small, however they are comfortable and we didn't spend much time in them! It appears nearly all rooms have a river / hippo pool view...

We stayed here for one night when our bikes were stuck in the mud. The hotel told us they would push our bikes out of the mud, but instead they drove them ad burned out the clutch on one.We paid with debit card for the night. Two months later in two separate transactions this hotel took $600 from our account...

We booked via booking for a 2N/3D stay (2 adults and 2 children) and the lodge's reservation team was very prompt in answering all our queries (Extra bed, Conservancy fees, Safari fees etc.). The lodge is located in the Lemak Conservancy which has good density and variety of animals. There is a Lemak conservancy fee (Adult 70 USD and Child...

We got a great reception, very friendly and helpful staff, nice rooms. The lodge is lovely with a great view of the Mara River and happy hippos all day. The general ambience quiet and serene - a great place to retreat at a very good cost. Food could be better. Thank you! Mara River...

Our experience was very good. We arrived late night ( around 10 PM ) and they waited for us with hot meal ( which was very much apreciated because we were starving after 7 hours driving from Nairobi ). Our room ( 16 ) was clean, maybe I would insist a bit in the bathroom, with confortable bed. They provide...

Highlights: ⁃ Located by the river with a unlimited viewing of hippos all day ⁃ The main road to the Mara from Narok is terrible, but that's the road to all resorts and lodges ⁃ The resort is located in a conservancy offering plenty of game nearby ⁃ It's about an hour away from the main gate of Masai Mara...

My partner and I stayed three nights here recently and absolutely loved it. Although the 68km ride down a dirt track to get to the hotel isn't ideal, once you're there it's a great location. Set right on the u-bend of the river, hippos and crocs lay about on the banks whilst you eat your meals each day. Some mornings,...

Mara river lodge is a fantastic place to stay. The location is incredible with the dining area and some of the rooms overlooking the Mara River where there are literally hundreds of Hippos as well as few crocodiles (an electric fence ensures they stay out of the hotel grounds!). In the evening you can watch the Hippos as they climb...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mara River Lodge commands one of most spectacular views in the Serengeti - Mara ecosystem; the lodge lies on the Mara River at the edge of Maasai Mara Game Reserve and overlooks deep pools where crocodiles and hippos bask all day. Painted in traditional Maasai red ochre and lit by hundreds of lanterns, the lodge is surrounded by indigenous trees and plants and is an attractive complement to the local environment. Guests can see hippos across the river from their tables as they sit down to enjoy the international cuisine on offer. Families of hippos spend their days basking in the deep pools beyond the bars and restaurant throughout the day. After a hot day's safari Maasai warriors in full regalia greet guests as they return to their 'bush home.' ... more   less
