Highlights: ⁃ Located by the river with a unlimited viewing of hippos all day ⁃ The main road to the Mara from Narok is terrible, but that's the road to all resorts and lodges ⁃ The resort is located in a conservancy offering plenty of game nearby ⁃ It's about an hour away from the main gate of Masai Mara... My partner and I stayed three nights here recently and absolutely loved it. Although the 68km ride down a dirt track to get to the hotel isn't ideal, once you're there it's a great location. Set right on the u-bend of the river, hippos and crocs lay about on the banks whilst you eat your meals each day. Some mornings,... More

Mara river lodge is a fantastic place to stay. The location is incredible with the dining area and some of the rooms overlooking the Mara River where there are literally hundreds of Hippos as well as few crocodiles (an electric fence ensures they stay out of the hotel grounds!). In the evening you can watch the Hippos as they climb... More

After enjoying the comfort and facilities of The Ark and Naivasha Sopa, this place was a big let down. The rooms are average and cramped with not even basic coffee facilities. There is no intercom for room service and the worst part is the atrocious food. Though the dinner timing is till 2130, when we reached there at 2030, there... More

We stayed in the Mara River Lodge for three nights during our Safari and all I can say is I am in love with this place! The location is spectacular! Set in one of the conservancies of the Masai Mara (and with game drives literally on the doorstep) the location on the bend of the river Mara is ideal. The... More

After planning a trip to this part of the globe for months, finally arrived in a downpour, and crazy thunderstorms, we did the distance of 60 kms in three hours..... this was all good, as most animals which normally , would not been there ,due to the dryer months, have stayed behind ,in fields of abundant grasslands, instead of choosing... We will never forget this lodge, absolutely the best. We went for our honeymoon to Safari in Kenya, staid in 4 different lodges/hotels, this was the best by far. Not only was everyone there extremely nice, polite and helpful, but the lodge itself is literally part of the safari: there are hundreds of hypos right there! We heard them all... More

I stayed at this beautiful lodge with our medical mission team after serving in Nandi County, Kenya. The food was excellent as was the service. The beds were comfortable but the rooms were a bit small. Loved watching the hippos from the deck. I encourage any seeking a safari getaway to plan to stay here. The new manager, Jens Rehm,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Mara River Lodge commands one of most spectacular views in the Serengeti - Mara ecosystem; the lodge lies on the Mara River at the edge of Maasai Mara Game Reserve and overlooks deep pools where crocodiles and hippos bask all day. Painted in traditional Maasai red ochre and lit by hundreds of lanterns, the lodge is surrounded by indigenous trees and plants and is an attractive complement to the local environment. Guests can see hippos across the river from their tables as they sit down to enjoy the international cuisine on offer. Families of hippos spend their days basking in the deep pools beyond the bars and restaurant throughout the day. After a hot day's safari Maasai warriors in full regalia greet guests as they return to their 'bush home'. ... more   less
