We were lucky enough to travel to the Mara to see the Migration with friends. Ten of us flew from Vipingo with Scenic Air, an hour and a half flight. What a wonderful way to arrive in the Mara. We were picked up at the airstrip by two safari wagons and after paying our conservancy fees were on our way to the camp. Our driver, Sammy was excellent and very knowledgeable about all the birds and game we viewed on the way. Two lionesses walked right past us, only yards away. On arrival at the camp, we were greeted warmly by the manager, Sandra, and her staff. Cold flannels and even colder soft drinks were most welcome. We all checked in and our bags were delivered to our tents while ice-cold beers and wine were supped. The tents are large and very comfortable, ours was further back so a little quieter than those at the front which face on to the river rapids. The all-inclusive food was delivered to us, after ordering, so no buffet to encounter. The camp had only just re-opened after lockdown and during the rains, part of it, including the decking, was washed away so had just been rebuilt. Unfortunately, they had forgotten to paint a white reflective line around the edge of the deck, and my partner fell off it in the dark, narrowly missing the fire pit and the edge of a drop to the river, populated by Hippos! This has now been rectified!! This apart, our stay was excellent, wonderful game drives, we even saw a leopard with its kill. The Migration was biblical and all the better for being nearly the only people in the Mara. I would thoroughly recommend Mara Crossing Camp and Scenic Air, in all a most memorable safari.…
What a superb long weekend away we spent in this beautiful, well-situated camp, celebrating our honeymoon, our every need met by Sandra and her team. The welcome was warm and thorough, with Covid-19 precautions well-established and in place. The roar of the rapids and the instant, close-up view of hippos and huge crocs was breathtaking- this camp is beautifully located to enjoy a safari from the comfort of the sofa, if you wanted to take it easy for the day. The tent took my breath away- clean, beautifully designed and lavishly adorned, with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in! Plenty of hot water in the roomy shower and hot water bottles tucked under the duvet at nights made sure we stayed toasty warm. The food was delicious- my favourite part being the freshly-prepared nanns, cooked to order in a tandoor oven. Delicious! Paul, our driver and guide, could not have been more accomodating; he drove tirelessly to ensure we saw a crossing or two and he even found us a leopard kill! The vehicles are roomy and reliable, necessary for some very rouigh roads! The catering team worked hard to ensure that packed lunches and breakfasts were tasty and what we wanted; Sandra and her team have devised a great sytem of tick box ordering to ensure you get what you want so the wastage is minimal. Galvin looked after us at dinner times, making sure we had everything we needed. A huge thank you to the whole team at the Mara Crossings camp for looking after us so well and making our honeymoon so very special- we will be back! I would highly recommend this camp for anyone wishing for a bit of luxury in the bush.…
we had the pleasure of staying at Mara Crossings Camp just recently and it was just fabulous. The camp was soo comfortable, great bed and pillows and decorated beautifully. Sandra the manager was amazing and so accommodating. The meals in Camp were delicious and plentiful and our packed breakfast and lunches certainly hit the spot. Meant we could stay out longer on safari which was exactly what we wanted to do and with proper Kenyan coffee to boot. Nothing like being on safari with a good cup of hot coffee and the pancakes were delish. it really is a beautiful camp, small but with good facilities, right on the river. We saw some amazing sightings very close to camp and would highly recommend this camp, Sandra and their staff - great place.
The Mara Crossings Camp is tucked away under a high bluff near a long stretch of rapids. The sound of the turbulent water is constantly in the background, which has a pleasant affect. There is an airstrip 45 minutes away and on this drive we saw 2 lionesses, plenty of hippo, giraffe, impala, zebra, topi, Grants gazelle, wildebeest and a leopard. The camp is very comfortable with huge double beds in the large tents. The food is good with a fair choice that should suit all tastes. I liked eating outside beside the river. The camp also arrange a sundowner bar at the end of the day. The staff are very welcoming. The drivers are excellent and knowledgeable. The safari vehicles are comfortable. Highly recommended.
Well-appointed but simple, this camp provides understated luxury and convenience. A small number of roomy tents equipped with all necessary amenities such as en-suite bathrooms and comfortable beds, as well as a seating area outside for an early morning cup of tea or a sundowner. Overseen by the unflappable, charming and effective Sandra, the entire staff is a delight. Nothing was too much trouble, with any small niggles resolved speedily. Paul and Dixon, respectively our guide/driver and spotter/navigator were excellent. Paul safely negotiated alarming trenches and is hugely knowledgeable; animals and their habits, plants and their properties, bird species...it seems there was nothing he did not know about the Mara. Dixon has an unerring sense of direction, even over areas where the paths had become overgrown with grass, and the most incredible set of eyes, spotting things we sometimes struggled to find with binoculars! We were there for 3 nights and spent almost all daylight hours on game drives. The packed breakfasts were both good and convenient, ensuring game drives were not interrupted by having to return for a meal. Packed lunches can also be arranged. Having a meal set up on the bonnet of a Land Cruiser while standing in the open plains with grazing antelope nearby is truly wondrous. I would advise everyone to do this (safely, of course!). We had planned our visit to enable us to experience the migration. The camp is perfectly situated for this. The camp being protected by bush but nothing else, there is a local tusker who wanders in now and then... Hippos also come up from the river at night and find their way into the camp. A guard is usually on hand as an escort should one need to leave the tent during darkness. The camp has been built to capitalise on the setting. Right above the river, the common areas and tents have been arranged to maximise views of the river and the sounds of the hippos and the rapids. I would have no hesitation recommending this camp.…
