My 10-year-old daughter and I stayed for 3 days/2 nights in this lovely hotel smack in the middle of the Masai Mara (within Mara Triangle Conservancy). It is one of the few hotels as opposed to tented camps in the Mara, but after one stay in such a camp with nightly deluges and a little too much adventure, I decided a room with walls and a running hot shower would be nice this time. We were not disappointed. The lodge can conveniently be reached through its own airstrip and Safarilink flights, it lays on top of a hill with breathtaking views from lobby, pool, restaurant and rooms (all of them, as far I could tell), the service is very friendly and efficient, the rooms are on the small side but well-maintained and clean and the food is nice. There are COVID measures in place (temperature check upon arrival, hand washing facilities, masks to be worn when walking around, plastic gloves at the buffet) and the lodge was busy on weekends, but not overrun. The highlight of course are the game drives. We came on the tail end of the great migration, so only some smaller herds were still around and unfortunately we did not see one of the famed river crossings (maybe next year😉). Our guide / driver was Dedan, and I cannot recommend him enough. Very knowledgeable, very friendly and nothing but our best interests at heart. We saw a great number of lions very close up as well as elephants, crocodiles, hyenas (my secret favorites), all types of gazelles, giraffes, you name it. Dedan also worked hard to find us cheetahs, but that was not to be. Dedan also made sure we could drive around in a Landcruiser that was open to the sides because we enjoyed that so much. Another mention should go to the breakfast at the hippo pool which is part of one of the early morning game drives. Great surroundings and good food. The only (very small) misgivings I have is the sometimes slowish drinks service during the meals and at the bar and the fact that you had to book pool time (presumably down to corona, but there was plenty of space and fresh air). All in all a great weekend escape and highly recommended to residents of Kenya and international travelers. We will definitely return - no concrete plans yet but I am already looking forward to it!

Dear Norsta, Thank you for choosing to stay with us during your recent visit to masai mara. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed every bit of our service delivery rendered by our friendly and helpful staff, in particular you have mentioned our food, accomodation ,view and game drives done by our driver guide Dedan ,we will pass your warm regards to him. We have taken note of the slow service at the bar you experienced and measures have been taken to ensure that service rendered exceeds our guests expectations. We are trying the best we can to enforce the covid 19 protocols in all the sections of the hotel to ensure our guests and staff are safe . Once again thank you and we look forward to hosting you and your family in the near future.

So this was my first visit to Mara Serena and my fourth visit to Mara. It is located in the Mara triangle so it takes about 90 minutes to reach from the Sekenani gate. The location is a bit of an issue and makes sense to be there during migration as many wildebeests cross over from Mara river which is located close by. We also saw many lions in that area but for better wildlife greater Mara is a better option. But this property is the best of the Serena properties I have visited and I have seen almost all of them. I wish we could take it and put in Greater Mara. The staff and food was amazing. Special mention for Edwin and his colleague (name I forget) who took great care of us during dining. We were in rooms 8,9 and 44 and they were so well located. We did not have to walk too much and the rooms had breathtaking views of the Mara and the pool was a nice touch as well. Something which I found pleasantly surprising was that at nightfall, there were zero insects on the property, I dont know what they did but that was amazing and I wish other hotels follow this practice. The food itself was very good and I had one particularly finicky guest with me, but the staff made everything that was asked for. Even for my wife who is allergic to eggs, they made eggless dishes including sweet dishes. The night safari was also good and we saw bat eared foxes after a long time as well as a spitting cobra baby and the other animals. Mara itself is great and we saw 14 lions (5 males and 9 females), one leopard and 7 cheetahs including the famous Tano Bora. One suggestion though that in the times of COVID, they need to step up their checks slightly more. There were occasions, I walked into the property without washing my hands. Also the common areas did have compulsory face mask and gloves which they gave us to be worn near the food, they also need to have a temperature check and sanitization facility before entry and also a kit with sanitizer and face mask can be put in the rooms along with other toiletries. Hope to visit someday again. P.S : Thanks Judy from the bookings office who ensured everything went smoothly.

I was in Masai Mara for two nights the Serena mara lodge I love their staff, they were very supportive and helpful, and always willing to out of their way to help. Their food in particular their salads and salad dressings were yummy and their lime pie dessert. I loved how the view from the rooms was spectacular and the rooms were clean and neat. Their building structure was very sophisticated in terms of creativity, they represented the Masai culture living lifestyle into their lodge building structure. The rooms have a balcony and a good view for taking pictures. The tour guides at Serena were professional and gave some interesting informative information on the wildlife and ecosystem at Masai mara, and most of all ample information on the wildebeest migration from Tanzania to Kenya and vice versa. The staff and hospitality I would say is 100% on point! Well done! Hospitality is perfect. Lovely service and staff!

Firstly I must say it is an immense pleasure to return to Mara Serena with my wife and 2 kids and parents, after a 16 year gap of trying other camps and lodges. It is my opinion Serena is still the best hands down for value, service, LOCATION, design and comfort. I am in my room spending my 5th night here and must praise the staff and management for their excellent service and effort to restart such a huge operation so successfully in this new and extremely challenging COVID environment, it’s no easy feat by any measure. I will leave tomorrow very unwillingly by will surely be back. Keep up the good work Serena and I wish you all the best. My days of experimenting are over. I know where I will return. Off to be with a lion roaring in the distance, paradise!
