Great location in the midst of the forest, close to the main gate of Mara. Very hospitable staff and an authentic feel of Africa. Comfortable tents and good hygiene. Can do better on the food and variety.

First of all let me say this criticism is not against the staff. They really tried, against all odds, to make the visit as nice as possible. My very strong criticism is directed towards the owners and management of the lodge. They are clearly out to make quick money on tourists that look at the ‘nice’ (but totally misrepresenting) pictures on the website and the comments on TripAdvisor. If the lodge was sold as ‘Oltome Backpackers Resort’ it would be fair to everyone and I am sure backpackers would like the lodge. However, for our family visit we felt cheated by the above mentioned management. The only positive thing about this completely oversold ‘construction’ site was the well meaning staff.

My boyfriend, friend and I stayed at Oltome Magic Mara for 2 nights in June 2018. We basically showed up unannounced and the team was extremely accommodating and hospitable. The resort is a short drive from the main park gate and is good value. Pros: - hot showers - wildlife all around - helped arrange a guide for our self-safari for the next day (which was awesome) - very reasonable off-season prices - beds comfortable - fun mid-range tented camp experience Note if you are driving yourself there, google maps does not show good directions so continue to ask the locals where to go to not get lost.

The service was excellent. We really felt like queens. The food was delicious. At night there is security who makes sure everything is alright. This place is definitely advisable. You are doing a great job!

We were welcomed by Francis and other staff from the hotel with fresh cold towels and some fresh fruit juice. This was appreciated after the long and bumpy ride. Our stay was really great, we got s small bungalow and the staff followed us there when it was dark and waited for us at all times. Francis was in charge of the food and it was soooooo delicious! I'm a vegetarian and he adjusted all the food for me so it was suitable. I'm very happy we stayed here and I'm very happy that I met Francis! I wish all the staff the best of luck and I hope I'll see them again. Much love from Sweden
