The name Drunken Elephant Mara is rooted in a myth that says the elephants love to eat the fruit that has fallen from Marula trees. Once eaten, fermentation occurs inside their very large tummies and the elephants become drunk! We offer the guests a different experience with an honesty bar as well as an all inclusive section where all you pay for is your park fees :) You can also take advantage of our pizza oven , jungle gym for children or hot pool on a beautiful starry night with a glass of wine. Nothing beats the comforting hug of nature when in nature. When are you coming to visit?

With everything going on, we needed an amazing get away from the bustle of the city and to start 2021 with a bang. The first time I came here was back in 2014/2015 on my own and I absolutely loved, this time I convinced my very American husband to enjoy the outback of the African bush. The whole place has been renovated and looks amazing, the staff was top notch. Nothing better than being surrounded by wildlife right outside.

We paid 300 USD a night for a stay at which is not even worth 100 USD. Everything is old, broken down, no hygene. The pictures shown in this site must be at least 10 years old. Ceiling on the terrace in coming down, toilets without seats ... you can not imagine ! This is so fake ! Unbelievable that they can get this rating. Does tripadvisor ever check these places for real ?? We booked for 3 nights. Arrived and were alone in the hotel. There was 1 beer to share with 6 people. Food was average, so was breakfast. But it's the state that place is in. Horrible. Look at the picture an you'll know enough. My friends have more of them. I will get them if anyone wants more. I just want to warn everybody who is thinking of going here ! JUST DON'T GO !!

Dear Guest, thank you for taking your time to review us. we truly apologise for the inconvenience caused and for your experience while staying here at the camp. the camp was going through a transition period of owners at that time, however this does not justify how your stay went and we are once again very sorry. We have renovated the camp and are upgrading it currently to follow the new protocols of the pandemic, We hope that you will one day give us a second chance to rectify your first stay here. Warm Regards

Great location in the midst of the forest, close to the main gate of Mara. Very hospitable staff and an authentic feel of Africa. Comfortable tents and good hygiene. Can do better on the food and variety.

First of all let me say this criticism is not against the staff. They really tried, against all odds, to make the visit as nice as possible. My very strong criticism is directed towards the owners and management of the lodge. They are clearly out to make quick money on tourists that look at the ‘nice’ (but totally misrepresenting) pictures on the website and the comments on TripAdvisor. If the lodge was sold as ‘Oltome Backpackers Resort’ it would be fair to everyone and I am sure backpackers would like the lodge. However, for our family visit we felt cheated by the above mentioned management. The only positive thing about this completely oversold ‘construction’ site was the well meaning staff.

Dear Guest, thank you for taking your time to review us. we apologise for what you went through and have learnt from our mistakes to not take guests when we are undergoing renovations. We do not however claim to be a high end luxury resort and we assure you that all comments on trip advisor are genuine. We offer a budget traveller a little bit of luxury during their stay. Thank You for the opportunity to host you, albeit it was an experience that we do not wish for any of our guests and we do hope that you will give us an opportunity to host you once more to right the wrong. Warm Regards
