Our first time on safari, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. The tents were far more comfortable that we might have expected and hot water more abundant. Was pleasantly surprised to have fairly steady wifi access in common areas. Food was a mixed bag: on some nights quite good and on others not as good. Overall, was too...

This camp was exactly what we had in mind to get into the wilderness of Kenya for the first time. The tent was extremely comfortable, well done! Service excellent from the arrival to the dining/lounge, to the Masai who guarded us and the property.....We had a tent that was on a hill above the river...Symphony of animal sounds at night...

I stayed here recently as part of a group safari trip with Exodus. It was wonderful, as was the whole trip. The accommodation is fantastic as is the food and location. Best of all though is the friendliness of the staff. We were welcomed to each meal with friendly smiles and the staff were keen to ask us how we...

Having stayed at Ilkeliani almost 10 years ago we decided to return. Excellent welcome in an unfenced camp along the Talek. Good food, very good and friendly service, a viewing platform for sundowners , a hanging and swinging bridge and very private tents spaced out to East and West. We will certainly return.

This was my first trip to Kenya and my first safari, though I hope to come back. We were welcomed into the reception area with a cold towel, and cold juice, which was very refreshing after our 5+ hour drive to get there. Suzee, our hostess made us feel welcome and did a great job of explaining the camp and...

Great food, great facilities, and great staff! This place is better than home because the staff spoils you. The staff makes sure your tents and the common tents are ready for all times of day. They even escort you at night to prevent people from getting lost. We were very relaxed for the one night we stayed here. Lots of...

Ilkeliani is very nicely positioned between basic camping and a luxury safari resort with the most amazing game viewing nearby. Accommodation : nicely spaced out good quality 'luxury' tents with views from the porch over the river and onto the plains - either sunset or sunrise facing positions . Bird life , monkeys and baboons were easy to view from...

Ilkeliani was the most memorable accommodation on our Kenyan Safari: Attention to detail in the permanent luxury tents (such as climbing into bed to find a chocolate on the pillow and a hot water bottle at my feet). Unique location on the riverbank for good wildlife and bird viewing. Attentive and friendly staff. Exquisite food of a high class restaurant...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Nestled in a riverine forest in the Masai Mara Game Reserve, the area is a favourite for elephants coming to drink from the Talek River. Ilkeliani camp consists of only 17 tents, each commanding views of the plains and the wildlife action throughout the day. The tented rooms are raised up slightly on earth mounds, overlooking the river and the plains. These mounds are covered in vegetation, and feel quite natural, and each one has been sited under its own cluster of shady indigenous trees and you do feel like you are out in the wilderness. The camp now has a suspension bridge for easy access to the reserve for early game drives ... more   less
