After months of quarantine, we needed a break. We, 2 of our kids and their families, packed up and found the best Mara location!! The place is beautiful, on the edge of the escarpment, overlooking the Mara. Breathtaking! The chalet was perfect. Spotless and welcoming! The bed gave a great night sleep and the shower was hot with solid pressure. Two things that mean much to me! Now the staff... they could not have been more attentive. They were simply there when we needed them. Every time. When making reservations... Grace was most helpful as I messaged her over and over with questions. Another Grace met us on arrival and she made sure we were settled and had anything we might need. Her hospitality made you feel at home. Abel adopted us as family and took care of every request and even anticipates needs. We had two 10 month olds and Abel considered them at every meal. The cook made excellent food and we certainly didn’t lack in satisfaction. We had to call Sarah in reception the first day with a small water issue that was resolved before we returned with no problems following. We had a chance to tour the bandas and the tents and both would be excellent choices for groups we have come in throughout the year. Being situated outside the reserve saves on the entry fee which, if not residents, could be costly. We were there for 3 days so this impacted our cost significantly as our permits are all in process. We had a chance to meet the owners who were both so welcoming! A sweet little family with open arms. Zebras and giraffes roamed around the camp! Maasai Simon escorted our walks and there isn’t anything I can think of that didn’t exceed our expectation! Highly recommend the chalets, although there are common areas you can access the view of the Mara from the escarpment. Can’t wait to return!!! …
This camp sits on the bluffs at the Western edge of the Mara. Heading on safari gives a commanding view from above. Nice accommodations and a hearty buffet for meals made this a nice stay. Luxury tents or more simple ones w cots are both available.
I have been to Mara West 7 times and this time was the best. Management was at it’s best. Food was delicious. Grounds were impeccable. Staff was so helpful and kind. I look forward to my return visit. Grace, John, Willie and Chef Peter along with Christine and the manager are the best. Thank you for the best time. Love Mara West.
PROs - Close to the park (20m) away - I know some people said this was a con but in our experience it was not too much of an inconveniance as there are animals the whole way up and into the village - Very serene, secluded location - Friendly & accomodating staff - animals everywhere CONs - FOOD: As other said, the food (especially compared to other resorts in Kenya) is very very limited. The food is very, very bland, very limited. You will likely see roasted potatoes once, if not twice a day. Although they try to accomodate you, compared to other Luxury resorts, this place is very, very basic when it comes to food - come here and expect to get enough to survive nothing more For the price you pay - your better off staying at a resort INSIDE the Maasai mara like Serena
Mara West Camp was a once in a lifetime experience. You are welcomed with a fresh juice and warm towel. The service is outstanding and friendly. The staff escorts you to your room and shows you all of the amenities. The view from our room was five star. Each morning we would wake up to a bursting sunrise over the Maasai Mara. We enjoyed the community between guests at Mara West more than any of our other lodges. Prior to dinner it is common for guests to head up to the main lobby area, grab a drink at the bar, and sit on the patio enjoying the views and outdoor fireplace. The food was served buffet style and was delicious. We truly had a fabulous experience and would highly recommend Mara West.
