I stayed with a friend at the Kijani Lamu Hotel and we would highly recommend it. The owners are local and really know the island and the people. The staff was unfailingly helpful, repeatedly going the extra mile to make our stay comfortable. The staff seemed to get along well with each other and the owners like a team. The rooms are unique and there is no detail overlooked. It's a great place to relax or to use as a home base while exploring the island.
The management are very welcoming and we loved our time there. The rooms were clean and their location is brilliant, the staff were very attentive. We requested to have a Swahili breakfast one morning, the owners went out of their way to organize this for all the guests for Sunday breakfast. That was very special and we would definitely be returning there again.
Family vacation in Lamu and I chose Kijani House based on the reviews on Tripadvisor. On disembarking from the water taxi we were warmly welcomed by Isaac and Elizabeth who immediately put us in relax mode. Rooms are decorated in ‘Lamu style’ and were spacious, clean and comfortable. Had dinner at the restaurant and on recommendation ordered the seafood platter. Thought one wouldn’t be enough for 4 people so ordered 2 and discovered that it was more than enough. One of the best seafood platters I’ve tasted with all kinds of seafood and generous amount of lobster. Daily breakfast was great. Service was a little slow and likely because of distance of restaurant from main kitchen. All in all we had a great time in Lamu and Kijani certainly contributed to making our stay even better. Shout out to Timothy, Evans and Tsofa to name a few. All staff were extremely helpful and friendly. We will certainly be back…
Thank you to all the staff at Kijani for making our stay so comfortable, relaxing and fun. The food was truy delicious- hard to say which is better- the breakfast or dinner! The eggs benedict was delicious as were the puddings (passionfruit creme brulee was divine.) Elizabeth at reception was charming and accomodating. Being in a small hotel, we could eat meals where and when we wanted. The owner took on our suggestions and comments and seemed truly keen to make our stay perfect. Really good value, stunning grounds and we loved the tortoises and Mr Nice, the sweet dog. Kijani is a true Lamu gem!
kijani is the best hotel in lamu! I can only advise you to go there!! The rooms are amazing with impeccable cleanliness, the service is impeccable, the employees are smiling and very professional!! and the kitchen… It is extraordinary!! During my stay in Kijani I went to dinner one evening at the Peponi hotel. Frankly, I was very disappointed!! I strongly advise you to have your meals at Kijani!! It’s so good and they only use fresh and healthy products and it's very affordable!!! and the manager of the hotel Trish is extremely nice, attentive to everything and very professional! Kijani, it feels like home!!
Kijani has nice rooms. Airy and spacious. It’s very noisy though, the call to pray happens early in the morning and other times as well, apparently this is a known thing in Lamu. The many donkeys that abound make a load noise often. So sleep is not a key expectation. The position is nice. A few hundred meters walk to the beach. The restaurant is gorgeous with good food. There is a tree house place to sit. The pool is small, chlorine (generally they are green conscious except for the pool). With grass around. There is a water filter where you can fill bottles. The price is expensive but that seems to be a thing in Lamu in general.
My girlfriend and I went down to Kijani for valentines weekend .We be Kijani because our preference Peponi was full, so we decided to give Kijani a chance. When we checked into our room the beddings were dirty so we requested them to be changed.Which was done.Day two I requested more Toilet paper (as we had completely run out), The manager a fellow called Ahmed I think could care less.we had to address the owner so as to get this done.We also requested Doom as our first night was a mosquito fest. This was also like pulling teeth. All in all we decided to make the best of a bad situation and spent our time in other locations and only came back to Kijani to sleep.I would not go back to Kijani even if it were complementary.Visit at your own peril.
Great place with nice atmosphere, nice staff and very good food. From the menu I would recommend most things. The omelette for breakfast Spaghetti with shells for lunch, seafood platter for dinner was very good. Feel free to take a walk along the beach, nice areas for swimming. Sailboat trip at sunset was magically beautiful and can be recommended. The only thing I wish, was that the people at Lamu had picked up more rubbish and plastic at the beach
Our visit to Kijani, with two family friends, was great they enjoyed Kijani, this their first visit to lamu , they stayed in the newly upgraded room no 1,2 and 3 , The foods and service was great The sun rise walk with Mr Nice on beach and walking back through the Dunes and Villiage was a experience , Kijani serviced us Swalli Khawa in court yard in the village, Kijani chef made sardines which we bought fresh on beach - yummy !! , Sundown on top Tris house was the best
Greatly enjoyed the accommodation, food, hospitality and the warm staff. Our first time in Lamu and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would recommend Kijani as it is also very close to Shela beach and also a walking distance from Lamu Town.
