JamboHouse Lamu is a small budget guesthouse in Lamu Town. We have 5 double rooms, all with private bathroom. Three rooms are self-contained and two rooms have external bathroom (not shared, only for that room). All our rooms have mosquito net, ceiling fan and tower fan or stand fan, bedside lamp. JamboHouse Lamu is ideally located to explore Lamu Old Town. It’s just a three minute walk through narrow lanes to Town Square with Lamu Fort. From our Top Roof you have a good view of Lamu Town, the inland part and sunrise. We are not a 5 star resort but we offer clean rooms with fair rates. All our rates include breakfast, free wifi internet, free coffee/tea. We give our guests a map of Lamu and plenty of useful information (museums, restaurants, suggestions how to spend your time in Lamu). We can organize a lot of activities like boat trips, walking tours (with or without guide), massages, henna painting, Swahili Cooking classes and more. We wait for our guests at Manda Airport or at the jetty in Lamu.

Amazing place to stay in Lamu! The rooms are big and very clean, the public sitting areas are beautiful and perfect to enjoy the cool breeze at the evening overlooking the town. The breakfast ist superb and sufficient - every day fresh fruits, juices and pancakes or omeletts. All the things worth seeing in Lamu as well as all the shops are in walking distance. For me most importanly: I really loved the spirit of this place! The best of all is the Host - he helps amazingly friendly with everything: booking trips, explaining ways to go to the beaches and information over the prises, pcr tests, booking flights, exchanging money, just everything! He organises free of cost pick up from the airport. He also gives a lot of useful information over all the good and important restaurants and cafes in Lamu with tips where they serve alcohol and where you can enjoy a vegetarian meal.

We stayed for 3 nights and we had a lovely stay! The owner is knowledgeable and knows everything about the island. He gave us recommendations on what to do. The staff is so sweet. Anything we needed, they were always there to help. Our private room was perfect and comfortable. The hostel is decorated so nicely, a lot of travelling photos to see. Great rooftop views while enjoying their nice brekkie. We did the sunset tour from the hostel and our guide was very kind. We took boda bodas to Shela to check out the beach. Shela is more touristy so we are happy we chose to stay at this hostel. More local food options and you get to see how the locals live. Thank you again!

Very nice little hotel. The rooms are good-sized and clean, way better than the extremely reasonable prices would sugest. Arnold is extremely nice and will go head over heels to make you feel welcome and for you to enjoy your visit to Lamu. In general, Jambo house is a fantastic option for the backpackers in Lamu, would definitely recommend to friends.

Good location, and comfortable rooftop terrace. Arnold (the owner) is a traveler himself, so he knows what details to attend to. He’s extremely knowledgeable of the area, and very helpful in planning. Highly recommended!

Just as any person born in Nairobi, Lamu has always been in my bucket list. I had the opportunity to do a road trip during the pandemic period. We were received by Arnold's staff who helped carry our luggage to the guest house. Arnold our host was simply amazing. He gave us alot of history as well as advised us on the best places to visit. The guy is so cool, you can listen to him the whole day and forget your excursion. In order to experience Lamu well, I advise that you do breafkast at your hotel and lunch at the different local restaurant. You get to enjoy a variety of cultural and continental cuisine. Breakfast at Jambo house was fresh and so delicious. Every day had different variety. I plan to visit again in 2021 and I will definitely go back again. We did a train and road trip through Mombasa, Watamu, Malindi, Mpeketoni then Lamu. Extremely safe despite what you see on Al Jazeera and BBC. 3 - 4 nights is great if you want to enjoy the historical sites and relax on the island. 4 - 7 nights if you want more adventure such as going via sea to the other islands

Lamu had been on my bucketlist for 6 years and I had been silently following JamboHouse for most of those years! So this year, I decided to do something different for my birthday. Lamu and of course JamboHouse came immediately to my mind for several reasons. I chat up Arnold who runs the guest house and he gave me all the info I needed to plan my travel.. including flight details, the room options and activities I could do. On the day I arrived, Arnold sent Ali to pick me from the airport. Arnold himself welcomed me personally at the door with a huge smile and I immediately felt at home. I got a delicious glass of fresh juice for a welcome drink and was surprised with a bowl of fruits in my room for my birthday gift. There after Arnold sat with me, gave me a map of Lamu Old town and loads of recommendations for the best places to eat different kinds of food , best places for ice cream and coffee and shopping as well as interesting activities to do in and around Lamu. He helped me plan my itinerary and he organized all my exploring adventures. In the morning, a sumptuous breakfast was served at the beautiful breezy rooftop, and we would chat for a while before I left the house for the day's exploring. In the evening Arnold and I would chat about my day's adventures and his travels.. I was a solo traveller but thanks to Arnold, I felt like I had travelled with a friend and was inspired by how widely travelled he is. Through him I got budget alternatives to visit the places I wanted. The walls of the guest house are his travel board which inspired me to also have my own travel board. Jambo house is a basic guest house, nothing fancy about it.. but it's very clean, spacious and all the basic amenities are provided including Free WIFI, toiletries, a ceiling fan, standalone fan and a safety box for your valuables! The roof top was a great place to relax, enjoy the views of Lamu town and the sea front as well as catch a nap.. the breeze from the rooftop during my naps was so refreshing. Fred who serves breakfast was also friendly and an amazing guy. On the last day, Arnold graciously extended my check out time to give me enough time to do my last visits within town and pack. He was there again to personally see me off which felt so special. I will go back to Lamu, there's still so much I didn't do during my visit and I will definitely stay again at Jambo house. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and my stay and would recommend Jambo house to any budget traveller. Thank you Arnold for being amazing!

I had been wanting to attend the Lamu Cultural Festival. So last year I travelled to Lamu, where I stayed at JamboHouse Lamu. Mr Arnold, the owner was very helpful in making my trip memorable. He sent someone to pick me up at the boat jetty and take me to the hotel since I arrived at 8pm. Mr Arnold also gave me a map of Lamu and helped me to plan everything including a sunset cruise and a guide for the Lamu Island tour. He also mentioned some good places where I could get to try out the local dishes. On the last day he prepared me a very delicious meal before leaving. One thing I love about Jambohouse is they are very mindful of nature in that they ask you if you need your sheets and towels changed every day. This is meant to help save water which is really a great way to go. I highly recommend JamboHouse. The view from the rooftop is amazing. 🥰👌

Basic, but very clean and nice guesthouse in the middle of Lamu town. Arnold gives lot of useful recommendations about the island. The rooftop has great views all over Lamu town, especially during sunrise time. And the sunset walk is definitely worth taking. Would definitely stay again. Thank you Arnold!
