#2 of 35 B&Bs / Inns in Lamu Island
JamboHouse Lamu is a small budget guesthouse in Lamu Town. We have 5 double rooms, all with private bathroom. Three rooms are self-contained and two rooms have external bathroom (not shared, only for that room). All our rooms have mosquito net, ceiling fan and tower fan or stand fan, bedside lamp. JamboHouse Lamu is ideally located to explore Lamu Old Town. It’s just a three minute walk through narrow lanes to Town Square with Lamu Fort. From our Top Roof you have a good view of Lamu Town, the inland part and sunrise. We are not a 5 star resort but we offer clean rooms with fair rates. All our rates include breakfast, free wifi internet, free coffee/tea. We give our guests a map of Lamu and plenty of useful information (museums, restaurants, suggestions how to spend your time in Lamu). We can organize a lot of activities like boat trips, walking tours (with or without guide), massages, henna painting, Swahili Cooking classes and more. We wait for our guests at Manda Airport or at the jetty in Lamu.

Lamu had been on my bucketlist for 6 years and I had been silently following JamboHouse for most of those years! So this year, I decided to do something different for my birthday. Lamu and of course JamboHouse came immediately to my mind for several reasons. I chat up Arnold who runs the guest house and he gave me all the info I needed to plan my travel.. including flight details, the room options and activities I could do. On the day I arrived, Arnold sent Ali to pick me from the airport. Arnold himself welcomed me personally at the door with a huge smile and I immediately felt at home. I got a delicious glass of fresh juice for a welcome drink and was surprised with a bowl of fruits in my room for my birthday gift. There after Arnold sat with me, gave me a map of Lamu Old town and loads of recommendations for the best places to eat different kinds of food , best places for ice cream and coffee and shopping as well as interesting activities to do in and around Lamu. He helped me plan my itinerary and he organized all my exploring adventures. In the morning, a sumptuous breakfast was served at the beautiful breezy rooftop, and we would chat for a while before I left the house for the day's exploring. In the evening Arnold and I would chat about my day's adventures and his travels.. I was a solo traveller but thanks to Arnold, I felt like I had travelled with a friend and was inspired by how widely travelled he is. Through him I got budget alternatives to visit the places I wanted. The walls of the guest house are his travel board which inspired me to also have my own travel board. Jambo house is a basic guest house, nothing fancy about it.. but it's very clean, spacious and all the basic amenities are provided including Free WIFI, toiletries, a ceiling fan, standalone fan and a safety box for your valuables! The roof top was a great place to relax, enjoy the views of Lamu town and the sea front as well as catch a nap.. the breeze from the rooftop during my naps was so refreshing. Fred who serves breakfast was also friendly and an amazing guy. On the last day, Arnold graciously extended my check out time to give me enough time to do my last visits within town and pack. He was there again to personally see me off which felt so special. I will go back to Lamu, there's still so much I didn't do during my visit and I will definitely stay again at Jambo house. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip and my stay and would recommend Jambo house to any budget traveller. Thank you Arnold for being amazing!

I had been wanting to attend the Lamu Cultural Festival. So last year I travelled to Lamu, where I stayed at JamboHouse Lamu. Mr Arnold, the owner was very helpful in making my trip memorable. He sent someone to pick me up at the boat jetty and take me to the hotel since I arrived at 8pm. Mr Arnold also gave me a map of Lamu and helped me to plan everything including a sunset cruise and a guide for the Lamu Island tour. He also mentioned some good places where I could get to try out the local dishes. On the last day he prepared me a very delicious meal before leaving. One thing I love about Jambohouse is they are very mindful of nature in that they ask you if you need your sheets and towels changed every day. This is meant to help save water which is really a great way to go. I highly recommend JamboHouse. The view from the rooftop is amazing. 🥰👌

Basic, but very clean and nice guesthouse in the middle of Lamu town. Arnold gives lot of useful recommendations about the island. The rooftop has great views all over Lamu town, especially during sunrise time. And the sunset walk is definitely worth taking. Would definitely stay again. Thank you Arnold!

I loved staying at JamboHouse! Truly a guesthouse for travellers by a traveller. The breakfast was a highlight of my time there! Arnold is a wealth of knowledge of Lamu and the area! Rooms and bathrooms are cleaned daily. Totally recommend the walking tour and the sunset hike offered by the guesthouse! This is really the best place to stay in Lamu! Thank you for everything Arnold!!

I have so much to say about this place, it’s wonderful. The location is perfect and close proximity to the landmarks in Lamu Town with a very captivating walk to the building. It’s safe and secure and very relaxing. Arnold really knows how to run a business with a huge focus on the guests, from the lighting, fans and great water pressure in the bathrooms to the incredible breakfast on the rooftop with the cool breeze wafting through. The standards here are VERY high and it’s VERY reasonably priced.
