I always take groups to Ololo Safari Lodge for a night before we fly out to the Masai Mara. The Mara is great, but it doesn't have white rhinos. Sometimes you can see white and black rhinos while on game drives in Nairobi National Park. The staff here are great! The food is exceptional and I can't wait until my next visit!

Ololo is a wonderful retreat on the edge of Nairobi National Park. After a week-long safari, my daughter and I wanted a relaxing place outside of the city. I am so delighted we found this lodge for two nights. We decided to splurge and stay here. However, it quickly became clear that we paid less than the value we received. We choose the stable rooms which were so lovely. There is so much detail in each one and very comfortable. The pictures do not do them justice. We were picked up at the airport by Emmanuel who drove us to the entrance to the park. He is very knowledgable and loves his job. We were met by the guide Sam who took us on a couple of game drives. Even after a week-long safari, I learned so much more about identifying the animals and he could answer all our questions. One of the advantages of Ololo is that you can start your game drive very early and not see anyone else in the park. When we arrived at the lodge we were impressed by the beauty, character, and flowers everywhere. Lemmy greeted us with drinks and warm towels. Even though it was 3, a late lunch was provided for us. The food is amazing! I stayed at 5-star hotels all through Kenya but they do not hold a candle to the food at Ololo. The staff goes out of their way to accommodate food requests. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The attention to detail is obvious. The first night we met the owners Joanna and Craig. They are a lovely and welcoming couple who work hard to make your stay perfect. We had a lovely happy hour that led to dinner along with other guests. The conversation and wine flowed. We laughed so much and learned about their vision for this very special property. The staff at Ololo are the best I have ever experienced. James greeted us for each meal and after the first day knew our preferences. He is a very gracious man. Nothing is too much trouble. At Ololo you are offered what you want, where you want and when you want. Francis also went out of his way to make us comfortable and know how to best enjoy our time. Kioko took us on a tour of the grounds. We were so impressed with their commitment to the environment and sustainability. They grow so much of their own food and you can watch the hard-working staff pick the food that will be on your plate that day. We enjoyed being allowed to collect the eggs one day. They produce 250 eggs a day that they use for the lodge as well as donate to a local school. The value at Ololo is that everything is included. The game drives, your meals, and house drinks and beer. Kioko led us on a walk to a nearby glass blowing shop where we were given demonstrations. Very interesting and he taught us so much about the culture and traditions along the way. You will not go wrong with whatever room you choose. We selected the lowest-priced stable rooms but they were nicer than we could have expected. We had a tour of the other rooms and they are outstanding. Some have really great views of the game reserve. So much went into planning each room. Our favorite place was by the pool. To sit and have your meals watching the giraffe eat, the Rhinos walk by as well as all the other wildlife was surreal. Such a beautiful setting with lovely people. We highly recommend and feel that we got such value for our stay. We plan to return the next time that we are in Nairobi to this beautiful place and owners and staff that make you feel at home.

Hi Susan, This would have to be up there with one of our best reviews! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this about Ololo. Craig has printed it out for all of the team to read. Despite you both leaving only a few days ago - it seems ages since you were here. So much has happened in the meantime. Craig had to race back to Australia suddenly on Sunday night as the NSW bush fires were threatening our farm - luckily not too much of our property has been damaged, but our neighbour to the western boundary was burnt out completely and lost his home. Bob cat has not gone missing again - and I think has been very wary of people closing doors and locking himself in store rooms! The baboons have raided our bar today - one opened the bar fridge and ran off with our home-made lemonade syrup of which he was greedily licking out the bottom of the jug. Ho hum - another day in the life of Ololo. We would love to have you back if you are ever back this way - and our lads may one day meet Emily!! All the best, Joanna & Craig

This lodge is a brilliant oasis on the outskirts of Nairobi, and had a calmness and serenity which belied the proximity to the bustling city just beyond the park. It oozed charm and warmth, and had a truly welcoming atmosphere in a scenic setting. Run by an Australian family, we felt that the staff were respected and enjoyed being a valued part of the whole establishment. A family of Hyraxes sunned themselves on the deck as we enjoyed breakfast, lending an even more relaxed feel. The farm is run on a fully sustainable basis, and we were given a guided tour which explained all the details of how this is done. There is an emphasis on support for the community which is commendable for a small independent farm. We loved our stay here and will make it our must stay spot in Nairobi.

Dear fellow Australian! This is such a wonderful review and very nice of you to take the time to write it. You must make Ololo your must stay spot in Nairobi. We expect you back with the Tim Tams next time please! We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay here and as well had a chance to look over the farm and see what is going on. I think that you may have just left, but we had to take our ceiling area when you step down to the bathrooms off the restaurant. The cute little hyrax family had decided to take up residence and we had to shoo them out and block off the ceiling, so that there nesting habits were curtailed! We mean it - we would love to have you back again another time you are back this way. Take care and all the best, Joanna & Craig and all the Ololo team.

Thank you Pernickity. We are glad that you are not of the same ilk as your Trip Advisor name....! We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and appreciate your kind comments. The NNP is a gem and such a great way to start a holiday in Kenya. We are getting heavy rain again after a bit of a long dry patch and just overnight things are greening up beautifully. Unfortunately the roads are boggy and we have had to pull our first vehicle out for the rainy season this morning! Take care, and we would love to have you back if you are in this neck of the woods again. Joanna

Ololo Lodge is a very special place in so many ways. Its incredibly beautiful and everything from the decor to the staff makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. We stayed for 2 nights in a beautiful room which was like our own little cottage. Our Safari guide George was fun & made sure that we were able to see as many animals as possible. The food at Ololo was incredible - gourmet at it’s best - thank you chef!!!! We are still talking about the coffee and how smooth and flavorful it was. All of the staff and the owners (who are from Australia) were so welcoming. Even Bob the cat greeted us and cuddled up on our laps. I can’t say enough great things about this place and highly recommend staying at Ololo Lodge.

Hi Molly, I m going to pin this review up in our kitchen for Nicholas, Kyeti, Patrick, Kenny and Maria! Thank you for your lovely words about us. Bob is fast becoming a firm favourite of all the guests - spoilt rotten and vying for all the different laps he can sit on each night. He is way more popular now than the real cats out in the park - we are thinking that it is time that he had his own cat Facebook page! Thanks again Molly for taking the time to send this review, and we would love to welcome you back again any time. All the best, Joanna
