This was a private home in a beautiful area just outside Nairobi called Karen (of Karen Blixen, "Out of Africa" fame). Now, it has a few rooms, but the feel is still completely like a private home, which makes it a great stay for travelers....More

I arrived into NBO at night and it was about 10pm when we headed to Macushla House. I was met by drivers from the tour company. It is quite a drive from the airport (40 minutes) but in the dark seems longer. Also, on arrival to the house, there was an area power outage which made it really dark. The drivers were familiar with the area, but the roads were hard to choose. But they found it in the pitch blackness. When we pulled up, a woman from the house happily greeted us with a lantern and took me to my room (which was totally dark so she left the lantern). It was good enough to take a quick shower and unpack a few things until morning. You're very close to the orphanage. I'm sure they can get a driver for you. The company I was working with sent someone for me, my guide, who spent the day taking me to Nakumatt, public ellie visits, Kazuri, Utmanduni Crafts, back to the adoptive parent elephant time, then back to Macushla. Hopes this helps.

"We loved "the cottage" as all five of us could be together and could congregate out on the deck."
