Nestled in the heart of a bustling city, Fairmont The Norfolk captivates many guests with its colonial charm and serene ambiance. Reviewers often commend the cleanliness and the attentive service provided by friendly staff, despite occasional lapses. While the prime location earns high marks for convenience, some visitors express dissatisfaction with the perceived value, citing the need for room renovations and the cost of extras. Although the amenities are generally appreciated, there is a consensus that some basic items are lacking and improvements are necessary.

Security seems of paramount importance on arrival at this beautiful historic hotel. The grounds are lovely and the rooms quiet. Great drinks and service are to be had at the bar which is a lovely place to spend the early evening. Signature iced tea awaits your return to the hotel during the day. I enjoyed breakfast on the historic terrace as well. The phone didn't work properly in the first room I was given and I never got a wake up call the first morning of my stay.Thankfully, my own phone did wake me up on time for a scheduled meeting. Later I was sent a plate of tasty local fruit and delicious and beautiful chocolates and a note from management which I truly appreciated.

The Fairmont Norfolk Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya is back! And I am thrilled! After being closed for roughly two years or more (during Covid), it reopened in 2022 and I was finally able to return. It had been ten years since my last stay. And my stay could not have been better.

The facility is beautiful, sparkling clean, decorated with fresh flowers in just about every direction, and functioning at a world class level. The renovations and redecorations are tasteful and elegant without distracting from the character that makes The Norfolk so uniquely Kenyan and superbly compelling. The service, all the way around, was excellent, ranging from the room steward and maid staff, the front desk team, the restaurant and lounge workers and especially the bellhops who do so much to make a guest’s visit smooth and special.

I ate several meals in the hotel restaurants, including breakfast daily. The food was excellent and the prices were remarkably good for a major city, five-star hotel. Lord Delamere’s restaurant on what was once the front terrace is now closed in with wall-to-wall glass facing the street. Fortunately, though, this does not seriously alter the inviting atmosphere I always enjoyed before that change.

My room was clean, smelled fresh and inviting, and everything worked perfectly, including wifi. The bathroom amenities are first class and the fresh flowers and bowl of fresh fruit are wonderful touches. One recommendation: be sure to book a room facing the garden paradise courtyard. In the middle of this large, densely populated city, that gorgeous courtyard with pristine lawns and exquisitely colorful plants and flowers, becomes an absolute oasis.

My highest praise must go to the staff. Even though it had been ten years since my last stay in this iconic hotel, I was privileged to get reacquainted with several employees who, amazingly, remembered me from when I used to stay at the Norfolk during annual trips to Kenya. They even remembered conversations we had all those years ago. This is a testament to the wonderful relational qualities of so many Kenyan people. With apologies to those whose names I cannot recall, you will be grateful if you meet Becca at the front desk, have Pauline serve you in the lounge (enjoy a drink or a bite to eat while relaxing out on the back terrace facing the courtyard), have your room attended to by room steward Samuel and cleaning staff member Harriett, meet Daniel with security, or have the privilege of receiving assistance from and getting to know Chris, Peter, Jackson, and Sydney, the bellhops ready to serve as you first enter the hotel. Also, I was able to meet and have a couple enjoyable conversations with the general manager, Nils Rothbarth, who was generously friendly and is obviously doing a great job of making The Norfolk Hotel a superior hotel.

I eagerly look forward to my next stay at The Norfolk Hotel.

Fairmont The Norfolk is THE hotel you want to stay at while visiting Nairobi! We stayed at this fabulous hotel for 3 nights and would definitely come back. The staff was welcoming and the service was top-tier! Afternoon Tea was one of our many highlights. Everything we ate was decadent and memorable. The bitings were served in a cute mini dresser filled with delicious scones and sandwiches. If afternoon tea isn’t your thing, check out the vibes at their newly renovated Cin Cin bar! They played jazz music all day and their cocktails were crafted really well. Dinner here was also incredible, they offered a mix of International and authentic Kenyan dishes. One morning we ordered room service for breakfast, everything came well-plated and tasty! Also, the WiFi here was pretty good-I was able to work remotely and efficiently! Lastly, the location is very ideal, it truly is in the heart of Nairobi with places like Giraffe Center, The National Nairobi Museum, and the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage being 30mins away! No need to look further, this is the TOP choice when it comes to hotels in Nairobi.

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Fairmont on our honeymoon.
While there were some lovely touches (petals on the bed, late check out arranged), unfortunately we did not enjoy our overall experience at this hotel.

For a premium price tag you expect a certain level of service. However after our first night we returned at 3pm and our room hadn’t been made - it seemed they had forgotten. On another occasion we rang reception twice for water, and two hours later it still hadn’t been brought. When we asked reception to book us a taxi from the road outside rather than take their drastically overpriced transfer, we were treated quite rudely and dismissively by the front desk staff.
The food and drink were laughably overpriced. We arrived very tired following airline delays so decided to eat at the Lord Delamere Terrace: the hotel’s ‘casual’ option. We were charged $60USD for a burger, a pizza and 2 beers, and a further $20USD for a beer and a gin at the bar. Given the prices of some of the most premium restaurants in Nairobi we thought this was audacious, and strongly recommend instead of paying $30USD per head for breakfast to check out some of the delicious local cafes (CJs was a personal favourite) where you will get better quality and value.

The pool & health club are dated and daggy: as with much of the hotel they were in desperate need of renovation.

We believe this is a hotel that rests on its historic reputation but sadly standards it may have once held have not carried through to 2020. We will not be staying here on our next visit.

Spent 5 incredible nights at the Fairmont, The Norfolk. The service and attention to detail by the staff blew me away. From check-in to check-out they didn't miss a beat. Each request was attended to with a smile. From the butlers, waiters, chefs, and receptionists they all rocked. Some of the staff that was amazing included Eunice, Bimbu, Terry, Patricia, and Morgan to name a few.

The spa is amazing. If you are traveling with kids they do have a parent and child special which I thought was an impressive touch. Loved the breakfast buffet, they have plenty of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. The bed is super comfy, the showers are a perfect amount of pressure and temperature. Room service is on point. The only thing I didn't like was the weird old Fairmont history video that seemed to loop endlessly on the TV but besides that everything else was pretty cool. This was my first time staying there. I actually felt really sad checking out which never happens at other hotels. I can't wait to visit again.

I live in the US and was planning a trip to Kenya, specifically to a town in the Rift Valley. However, I wanted to stay a night upon my arrival in Nairobi. Fairmont hotels have a good reputation and i wanted something I knew would be reliable. Before booking though I had reached out to the hotel to inquire about airport transfers because I was arriving around 0300 and did not want to be stranded. Immediately I heard back from one of the concierge's, Mary, who informed me this would be no problem. I booked my room and from that point on, things only got better.
I had such a pleasant stay that even though I had no intention of passing through Nairobi again on my return home, I ended up staying there for two additional nights, about two weeks after my initial visit, and was just as pleased. The reason I ended up coming back was because the staff was incredible. So welcoming, and accommodating. If I wanted a tour, a driver, etc. they immediately made this possible and even with short notice. The two restaurants served amazing food. I am a pescatarian, so I do not eat meat and I found more than enough options. I only ate at the hotel property while I was there because the selection was varied and there was so much I wanted to try. Everything was amazing. The breakfast buffet is something I am still dreaming about. The fruits, breads, smoothies, vegetables, pastries were delicious. I also on occasion ordered room service because of the odd hours I was arriving and departing and that was fantastic as well.
No one ever made me feel like I was asking too much, and they did everything they could to make my stay enjoyable. As I was departing the first time, I was talking with Aisha on my way out and she gave me her card and said if I ever wanted to come back, I was welcome. I then got to my destination and thought, I need to go back! I truthfully went back for two additional nights, merely based upon the service and the staff. i just felt like I had to!
I am an avid runner, which was my reason for being in Kenya, and I spent a lot of time at the gym and pool on the property and it was great.
Any type of tour or safari you want to go on, they can arrange it for you. The hotel rates themselves were reasonable and so were the excursions and drivers I had.
I have nothing bad to say about this hotel, and am already promoting it to people I know who are considering an African vacation.

We stayed at the Fairmont Norfolk before and after a safari and gorilla trekking. The staff at the Fairmont was wonderful - so welcoming! They helpfully and efficiently stored our luggage, got it out, stored it again... Jacob, one of the concierges, responded quickly, kindly and patiently to my frantic Emails about some luggage we were having shipped. When two tired, frazzled travelers from California arrived late one evening, the Norfolk took care of us! The front desk (Agnes, Rebecca, Julius) helped with activity suggestions, money changing, boarding passes...And breakfast was great; dinner at CinCin, the bar was good, room service was good. Hotel was beautiful, clean and comfortable. Everyone was so helpful - it was our "home away from home."

I have mixed feelings about this hotel as some aspects were exceptional and others not so great.
A historical oasis in the centre of the city with a beautiful and well kept garden. The public areas reflect its colonial charm and were well maintained and beautifully decorated. I think theses areas have been refurbished recently. The historical photographs and pictures showing the hotel through the decades were fantastic.
The rooms, however, were a different matter. We used Nairobi as the base for our holiday, so we stayed at The Norfolk on 3 separate occasions in three different rooms. I’m sorry to say that the rooms (although clean) are incredibly tired and in need of a major overhaul. All three rooms that we stayed in had shower heads that just sprayed water all over the bathroom soaking the floor, towels and toiletries. You could only use the hand attachment. I heard another guest reporting the same issue at reception. The bedside lamp bases were chipped and scratched and the lampshades were bent and just balanced on the fittings which meant that every time you used the lamps the shade fell off. The black out linings in the curtains had perished so in the morning you could see a patchy, spider’s web of light shining through. For anyone hoping to work the wifi was terrible.
I also have issues with their room categories as I think a ‘deluxe verandah room’ covers any room type that they happen to have available when you check in. We had a large, ground floor room with a bath and an outside terrace on the first occasion, then another large room on the second floor with a bath and Juliette style sliding door and finally a teeny, tiny room with a Juliette balcony and only a shower (no bath). All of these variations surprisingly fell under the same room category which seemed inconsistent and misleading. When I questioned this at reception on our final stay, I was initially told that the hotel had made an error and we were offered a credit on our bill. However the next day this offer was withdrawn. Not a deal breaker but needs some clarity.
The food in the restaurants was lovely and of great quality, but slow delivery. We ordered room service on our first night, which we had to cancel after waiting an hour half for a Club sandwich and fries. Breakfast was a visual feast. I particularly like the ‘mini portions’ concept (different granolas, yoghurts and overnight oats in shot glasses, mini croissants and pastries) which gave you lots of choices and flavours without looking greedy!
I would like to end this review on a positive. The staff at this hotel made our stay. A terrific bunch of people. The gardeners, maintenance guys, kitchen staff. They were all just smiley and interactive and we enjoyed lots of conversation and laughter. A special shout out to Joseph on reception and Jackton who greets you on arrival.
Overall an enjoyable stay.

Jambo!
An excellent stay at the Fairmont. From pick up at the airport, to check-in, the facilities, the housekeeping, the attentive reception staff, and the excellent restaurant team providing such a great selection of food, particularly as a vegetarian, were a welcome surprise.
The gala dinner and Kenya drumming display was superb. And if you have anyone in your party who has a birthday at the time (pretend you do anyway ;)) will be serenaded by the all the restaurant staff with a huge cake to share.
The arrangements for a trip to the Nairobi National Park for a safari was fantastic, not to be missed. Recommend staying there whenever in Nairobi.
Hakuna Matata!

I stayed 2 nights in a suite. The view was nice, the room bit very space for a suite but it was all right. The room was really outdated, and not clean. The coffee machine was dirty when I arrived and in the same state when I left. There was some horrible noise all night long the first night and I hardly slept. The breakfast is very basic, I stayed after at the Radisson which has a much better breakfast. The service at the restaurant was just slow, and I ordered a rare steak and I got it well cooked. I have found this stay utterly disappointing especially when you promote yourself as a luxury property
