I chose this hotel for it's proximity to Wilson Airport, as a I had a morning flight. I arrived late at night and was pleasantly surprised by the room. The receptionist was polite and friendly, as was her colleague the following morning. My breakfast was delicious, the coffee plentiful and the avocado on toast was so fresh. Unfortunately, I did not have time to explore the mementos but the bar area evoked a bygone era.
I would definitely stay here again when passing through Nairobi.

We stayed to catch a flight early in the morning. The staff was amazing did everything possible to help us to get the flight in the morning and prepared breakfast even before their breakfast time. The rooms are nice and clean. A clear recommendation!

What a find! A leafy oasis in the midst of Nairobi's frenetic pace no more than 3 minutes from your departure - or arrival - terminal at Nairobi's Wilson Airport. If you are in transit to Kenya's beaches or its bush, there is no better place. Very comfortable awash with echoes of Kenya's history of aviation all overseen by a warm and very able team of ever-smiling Kenyans. We needed 3 rooms: the Captain's Wing was perfect for this. The restaurant with its verandah served an excellent breakfast... and dinner too. And who cannot compliment the trio of ladies who run the reception day and night? All our somewhat complicated Nairobi logistics were attended to seamlessly. All this at very reasonable rates. I will be back. I cannot recommend it more highly.

Brilliant, efficient and friendly staff. Pilot Room No. 11 very comfortable and clean and quiet. Checken curry and chapatis were wonderful. Such a privilige to be a member of this historic club for 37 years.

I had work to do at Wilson Airport so decided to stay at the Nairobi Aero Club for the night so that i could have a early start. Although the booking process was very pleasant the experience of staying at the hotel was much to be desired. When i arrived I was given the key by the bar man. I was given room 6 which is the room on the road side, so i asked the staff to change the room and got a "tough luck" attitude, which i thought was a little odd as mostly Kenyan hospitality is very much up there.

You can hear the loud traffic noise all night even with the windows closed. There is no fan in the room and so you can't open the windows because the traffic noise then becomes unbearable. There was no hot water in the room, try having a cold shower in Nairobi on a rather cool night its agonising. Restaurant closes at 9 pm after that you are on your own. The television is microscopic with little of no choice other than Kenyan news and there is no internet in the room...just my luck.

The rooms are outdated and the bedlinen is perhaps as old as the club. I am generally easy to please and never critical, but my stay here was not pleasant at all.

On the PLUS side the restaurant and bar are very good and they make very nice Burgers, the staff are very good , good food at a good price... and they have Wifi .

We stay here often when passing through Nairobi on early morning flights from Wilson.
Stay in the newer block.
Traffic noisy and mosquitoes bad so take sleeping tablets/ear plugs/spray.
Rooms are large and airy with slightly lumpy bedding but there are nets.
Bar in the main clubhouse is like stepping back in time.
Nice staff and good basic scoff.

This place is not modern, the rooms haven't been modernized for the last 50 years, there's no wifi in the rooms nor broad TV program, the breakfast is not included and kind of "take-away".

BUT: the flair of this place is indescribable! You feel "beamed back" into the time of colonial glory. A lot of dark wood, the a-m-a-z-i-n-g wooden bed with the 4 "mosquito curtains", giving the feeling of sleeping under a 1001-nights-ceiling, the bar could have been a favourite for Hemingway or even Humphrey Bogart, the terrace and garden with view to Wilson Airport is great.

However, don't forget however this is an Aero Club, located directly on the other side of the runway fence. While you can meet all kind of "adventurers", be ready to a lot of aircraft and helicopter noise.

The extremely friendly crew, ready to help whereever possible, helps you always feel welcome.

The hotel is conveniently located to do some sightseeing. The elephant nursery is very recommendable, the giraffe center is nice, the Karen Blixen house disappointing (you get the colonial feeling at the Aero Club! :-D )

We had a strange experience here. We arrived late in Nairobi and had an early flight out so staying at the Aero Club (located on the grounds of the Wilson airport) made a lot of sense. And the location was in fact perfect and served the purpose completely. It felt safe and the beds were comfortable enough. While it could stand with some refurbishment it seemed adequately clean. All good so far. However, there was no running water in our room. Now, that is not completely unexpected in Africa but when we checked in no one bothered to tell us that the plumbing wasn't working in the entire hotel. There was a jug of drinking water in the room. We just went to sleep. In the morning we wandered into the restaurant and learned about the plumbing issues. So, no shower, no flushing of the toilet. The looks we got in the restaurant were not particularly welcoming and there was no obvious menu. We felt uncomfortable and unwelcome so chose not to try to eat breakfast there. When we tried to get directions to our airline and check out we were asked if we had already paid (no one there seemed to know or really care) and were given vague walking directions to Air Kenya and the suggestion that we could call a cab. OK, but we wouldn't even know what number to call for a cab if we had a phone which worked in Africa so we just walked and asked for help along the way. Fortunately it was an easy enough walk if you aren't overburdened with luggage and we got some nice pastries and coffee at Air Kenya for breakfast and used the bathrooms there to clean up as best we could.

So I am finding it difficult to rate this hotel fairly. It served the purpose of a safe, convenient place to stay for a short overnight between flights in Nairobi. I do think our experience is not usual for the place based on the other reviews I have read. However, I can't say it was all great. We paid almost $200US for a couple of hours and no shower or flush toilet. If someone had just said "So sorry, the plumbing is broken" I would feel differently as I know that unavoidable stuff happens sometimes. Ultimately, if location matters more than comfort, this is a reasonable place to stay.

For our second trip to Kenya, we decided to forgo the luxurious downtown hotel for the overnight stay before leaving for the bush. Why fight Nairobi traffic early in the morning to get to Wilson Airport and why pay international hotel prices when you can be comfortable and be at Wilson Airport? Plus, the role of aviation and bush pilots in the modern history of Africa made one feel a bit more like an adventurer rather than a pampered safari guest!

The main lodge of the Club is comfortable and has a lovely old-world feeling with propellers and aviation photos on display. Our room, in an adjacent building, was spacious and comfortable, with high ceilings, air conditioning, and a clean bathroom and shower. TV had local channels only - much more interesting - and there was no internet as far as I could tell. We could have walked to the passenger terminal but Safari Link picked us up.

If you are not too concerned about the amenities of a major hotel but want a good night's sleep at an affordable rate before heading out into the bush, you might consider the Aero Club of East Africa.

Sorry to answer this so late but we did this a few years ago, a pleasant short walk with locals who were walking to jobs in a.m. Took maybe ten minutes?
