The Shanema Homes is located in the vincinity of some embassies and some UN offices. The place is safe and the guards do a good job. Shanema Homes is located in a dead end road and consequently there is no noise. The overall impression is quite ok but you can‘t expect a high class accomodation. The rooms are quite small with no aircondition. The beds are covered with moskito nets but protection is not 100 %. It‘s better to bring some additional protection yourself like cream or these electrical burning sticks. The bathroom is sufficient in size, the shower is big enough but sometimes there is a lack of hot or warm water. The TV is offering four programs only including BBC and Sky Sports. Service is friendly but not outstanding. Breakfast is so, so and you can use the kitchen to cook your own diner. They have a nice garden, which can be used during day time. In the so called lounge you can sit on cosy sofas and watch TV or listen to radio music or have a chat with your friends. The only offer cold beer but you can bring your own drinks without any restrictions. The Village Market with some shops and restaurants is in walking distance and it‘s ok to walk there even after sunset. …
The reception staff almost always missing. The kitchen operation makes all residence stinks. When I was introduced to the "facilities", I was taken to my room through the kitchen (!). The room building was fairly new, but not clean, nevertheless the room looked fairly fine, very squeezed due to overflow of furniture. The toilette is a whole different story. The window was jammed and insects were coming in freely, the shower head was fixed and i had to lean at the wall to shower. The 2nd day i was asked to be moved to a new room (cause i complained about the insects), but my things were moved without my consent. Poor WIFI. One bright thing, tje staff are very nice and kind and helping. Overall, i will not come back.
Nice staff, small room, clean. Ok breakfast. You can order supper in advance to get it at specific time. Or go to "restaurant" and order then it takets longer. Walking (safe) distance to UN and many enbassies. Ask and they will help you.
Incredibly basic hotel. One step above a backpackers. Breakfast is basic over cooked eggs. Lonely sausages and bacon in Bain Maries. Rooms have no flyscreens on windows so impossible to sleep with windows open. No air conditioning. TV didnt work in 2 different rooms. Rooms on one side of hotel are incredibly noisy due to a water pump that switched on at around midnight. Staff are very helpful but one must take exception to owners / management who have a captive audience in people visiting international organizations in the area, charge exorbitant rates for accommodation but don't maintain standards.
Shanema Homes is a good option for both short and longer stays especially if you want/need to be near the UN. I was only here two nights but I appreciated a couple things - the rooms were good - not fancy but comfortable and more than adequate, I really enjoyed the garden layout and the 3 gazebos that you could use. You can ask for dinner/supper to be prepared but it took over an hour until I was served -which they were upfront about. Continental breakfast is adequate. Security is good.
