#8 of 64 hotels in Luxor
Travelers' Choice
Nestled upon the private "Kings Island" in the Nile that covers 660,000 sqm, the resort truly is an oasis of peace and tranquility. The idyllic, landscaped hotel grounds are expansive and home to the two main buildings, bungalows and three enticing swimming pool areas. The historic sights of Luxor, located only 4 kilometres from the hotel, can be easily reached by complimentary shuttle buses. The island is connected to the mainland only by a bridge and is virtually free of charge. This makes the resort an ideal location for families with children. The resort has been renovated in 2010 and extended by 320 rooms and suites in 10 elegant bungalows, new restaurants, a pool of 2,800 sqm in size and a SPA with fitness centre (from early-sommer 2011).

Paradise! Hotel Sprawling resort set in extensive, and beautifully maintained gardens on King's Island near Luxor. After the hustle, bustle and noise of luxor to slump into one of the many chairs or sunbeds and listen to the sound of birds whilst watching the feluccas and dahibiyas float past was bliss. Occasional cruise ships too. If you're into bird watching take binoculars - bright green bee-eaters, hoopoes, pied kingfishers as well as egrets, heron and many others. Lovely to watch the sun go down over the Nile and the perfect place to chill. 3 pools - a Child's pool (I think), infinity pool and relaxing pool overlooking the Nile with comfortable, padded sunbeds and free towels. All pools are quiet. One is heated. The clientele is predominantly middle aged and there were no loud groups or children while we were there early March. I'd imagine if every room was filled it would be very busy as there are over 600 rooms! There are 2 ATMS at the front of reception plus tennis courts and a spa. Waiters are friendly and polite and there is service to the pools. It can get a little wearing that they all want to be your favourite waiter to secure an end-of-stay tip! It is not necessary to tip each time. There is a felucca and covered motor boat available to hire with Mr Ali. We booked the felucca most afternoons to escape the heat. The waiters also brought food down to the boat for one trip which was lovely. Don't recommend the trip to banana island though. Nothing much there and sad to see caged capuchin and 2 caged crocodiles. There is an option to call a golf buggy for transport if you are mobility impaired or to take luggage. The site is flat with a few steps to the dining room and terraces. There are plenty of seat choices and shade. WiFi is available throughout the site with no charge. Room We stayed in the upper floor of Block 1 in a deluxe room half board. The room was spacious with two large twin beds, free safe, fridge, good free air conditioning, hairdryer on the wall, coffee/tea making facilities and good shower with small complimentary toiletries. We had a partial Nile view from the balcony. The majority of rooms are bungalow groups which I wouldn't have liked as the terraces are in view of people walking past. Upper floors seem less likely to have mosquitos and they are abundant here due to the gardens. You definitely need a plug in mosquito killer and plenty of deet based repellant! Getting there Taxi from Luxor takes about 15 minutes. A taxi pre-booked with hotel will mean you don't have to deal with a gaggle of aggressive taxi drivers who then insist the fee was for 1 person only and you now owe double! We used Hassani who is affiliated to the hotel for all our trips to Valley of the King's (30 mins) Karnak (25 mins) etc. He drove well, was quiet, kind and was very amenable and helpful with route planning and tickets. Highly recommend him. The cost of getting to the main attractions have a set price. He asked if we would like to visit an alabaster shop but didn't repeat the offer when we declined. There is a free shuttle to Luxor at 7am and 9am I believe. We didn't use this as we visited multiple sites each morning and it was easier to use a taxi. Hassani waited for us at each site and took us to the next. Food Although the dining room is a little soulless the food is very good. A huge choice with a clever mix of traditional Egyptian and European, usually around 8 mains options plus veg/salad etc. Plus an Omelette/pancake station for breakfast and a specials station for evening meal. Around 5 sweets plus pastries and cakes. The chefs are justifiably proud of the food and love to talk you through it. All buffet style. My partner found the food a little over-heavy with herbs but I thought it was lovely. Highly recommend the hotel if you're looking for somewhere peaceful, with no animation, pushy salespeople and within easy reach of the major sites. It was perfect.

Amazing sightseeing, the hotel itself based in an island in the river Nile, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, Zoo, and their own vegetables farms. Staff is very helpful, presentable and full of energy and hospitality overall is excellent. Food is very good especially the Italian Restaurant, we had our dinner every evening their. in the evening you are in a heaven, stars are shining on the river it is like you are in one of the famous painters painting, very quite atmosphere overall. Fantastic experience, I wish to repeat it again. by the way you can easily rent a sailing boat from the bank of the hotel where many boats are available to cruise through the river to Banana island and enjoy the pure river as never seen before. Bye bye
