Nestled on a hilltop, Basma Hotel captivates guests with its scenic views and a chic atmosphere tinged with old-world charm. While the amenities, including a nice pool and comfortable rooms, are generally appreciated, visitors have pointed out some dated features and limited dining options. Reviews indicate a mixed bag in terms of service quality and opinions on the value proposition vary.
The picturesque location offers stunning vistas, though the trek to town can be a challenge. Rooms are a hit or miss, with cleanliness praised but some mechanical issues noted.

Detailed Reviews
George and the rest of the crew took excellent care of my family. The hotel is extremely clean and the staff are incredibly helpful. We enjoyed the Lotus restaurant and because of their location - at the top of the hill - many of their rooms have a grand view of the Nile and Elephantine island. Top of the line security and guest relations helped us book a tour with local guide. They are within walking distance to downtown, museum, unfinished obelisk.
Three things to note: Be sure to have cash because their card machine is dependant on a strong wifi signal. Their drivers charge a lot for "VIP" transportation (AC and tinted windows) but there are ample taxis once you get off the property. The adjacent Nubian village plays loud techno literally all night long, which is unavoidable.

We got off a cruise ship, went to Abu Simbal and were dropped off at the hotel around 1. We were able to check in early, have lunch at the hotel restaurant and immediately go to the Nubian Museum, and the 2-3 hours was perfect for the museum (which was a 5 minute walk down the hill).
The restaurant was good, basic selection of Egyptian food, and importantly, they were fast.
In the evening, my daughter tried the pool but decided it was too cold (it was Dec 30, 2020) so they went to the room and I played on my phone while enjoying the view from the restaurant area. You do get a good view of the river and the desert on the other side.
In the morning, we had the hotel breakfast (which had a decent selection of hot and cold options). Then I packed while my wife took a Careem (like Uber) to the shopping area near where the cruise ships dock. We considered going to the Nubian Village before our 3 pm flight, but decided to take it easy.
The room itself was fine, although the beds were small. We never got a 3rd bed (roll out or otherwise) for our daughter and she had to share with my wife. I found the door handles to be unusual and difficult to close, but the hotel was nearly empty anyway so we were not worried. It uses an old fashioned key.
I found this to be the case in every hotel that I stayed in in Egypt, including the Jaz Aquamarine, Ramses Hilton and the Stienburger: The shower don't have closable doors, just half walls. If you are not careful (and I mean really really careful) you are going to get the bathroom floor wet, which means getting your socks wet when you go to the bathroom late at night. Not a serious problem, and not unique to this hotel, just be aware.
Nothing went wrong, so I have nothing bad to report. Decent view, average room, no problems to speak of. If I were to stay in Aswan again, I'd probably stay closer to the cruise ship port, I hear that the Aswan museum is great, and I think that the Movenpik tower looks like it has a better view.

The Basma Hotel Aswan is a mid-range hotel that offers a comfortable and convenient stay in Aswan. The location of the hotel is ok, with easy access to the city's main attractions and the Nile River. The staff are friendly and helpful, always willing to provide assistance and recommendations for things to do in the area.
The rooms at the Basma Hotel Aswan are decent with comfortable beds. However, the rooms are a bit dated and could use some modernization. The bathroom facilities are functional but could also benefit from some updates.
The hotel offers basic dining options, including a buffet breakfast that is decent but not particularly outstanding. The rooftop restaurant is a highlight of the hotel, offering stunning views of the city and the Nile River. However, the food quality and selection could be improved.

Overall, the Basma Hotel Aswan offers a comfortable and convenient stay in Aswan, with a friendly staff and good amenities. Basma hotel is a 4 -star hotel, thus, a comparison with the legendary Sofitel Old Cataract would be unfair. The price is not the same neither. USD 160 at the Basma for a deluxe room with a mega terrasse (50 sq ft) with a stunning view over Aswan, the lake, and the major landmarks, vs USD 800 + at the Sofitel cataract for the basic room. So one needs to compare within the-4 star category, and in our opinion, Basma is by far the best in its category. As other guests noted, the service is first class in all aspect, provided among others by the super efficient and warm Mrs Reham Ezz who managed to get our room ready by 10hrs am. Bul all the staff, from the front desk team to the resraurant team and smily MR Hassam at the outdoor bar were first class.
We recognize that some areas of the hotel need a bit of tender care but its obvious that they are trying to catch-up, emerging from the Covid lockdown, and they need our praise for their fast progress. Rooms are very clean, they have a giant pool, great view, great location (walking distance from the Sofitel, if you don't mind paying an entry fee of USD 15 for outside guests to visit, plus USD 45 for a cocktail) and the public ferry for Elephant island ($0.25 ) where we recommend lunch at the Jamaican Cafe). Finally, considering the magnificant view from the elevated terrasse, we decided to have diner at Basma ( dinner buffet at $22). It was so good (lots of fresh vegetable salads as starters, choices of hot main courses and desserts) that we repeated the experience the 2sd night. Thanks Chef for saving us the hassle of going down from our cloud and cope with the traffic to go... where, when perfection is on location?
Thanks to all the team for this wonderful experience. The candlelight dinner on the terrasse overlooking Aswan by night will stay in our memories for a long time.

We had a wonderful welcome to the Basma Hotel, hibiscus juice on arrival plus fruit and cakes in the room. Friendly attentive staff. Concierge took our bags to our rooms and then watched over them whilst we checked in,
Rooms were large, very clean, with fabulous view over the Nile and the desert beyond.
Bathroom well stocked with complimentary products including loofahs. Powerful shower, Very clean bathroom.
Pool beautifully landscaped with the names of the trees in the garden. Sunset from the terrace amazing.
We stayed only one night and so sad it wasnt longer.
I'd be picky if I said my only criticism would be that the menu was plastic and sticky and therefore looked "cheap".
Highly recommend if visiting Aswan.

We stayed at the Basma hotel with family during Dec 2023. The overall stay was not bad. The trip to Egypt was to celebrate my 40th birthday and the hotel made special effort to have a cake ready on our arrival which was lovely. The room was ok, our boys enjoyed the pool although it wasn't heated. Despite all these positives there were a few negative experiences. On one of the days, the water supply was cut off without any warning. My 2 year old was actually in the toilet at the time, we repeatedly asked the reception to send some water bottles to help clean him but none was provided. We used our drinking water, bought from the supermarket to clean him. The staff at breakfast were totally incompetent. They would rather just stand and talk with each other than help you including the chef at the omelette station who would just disappear in the kitchen for 10-15minutes. One of the nights we had dinner at the restaurant which was worst experience ever. Food was actually ok but the service was awful. They have an elderly man managing the restaurant who was too busy chatting with his friends to do his job. We waited over 30 minutes just to get the menus. Having asked him at least 3 times. He made a number of strange and judgmental comments about our order. The next day when we asked to heat up some leftovers he refused to do it unless we pay him so totally exploiting the situation.

A very pretty hotel with a lovely poolside view. It has a shopping center, ATM. The rooms have little balconies where you can sit out an enjoy a cup of coffee.
The breakfast buffer was quite good. The restaurant had a nice sit out with a good view and you could choose to sit inside if it was nippy. Ala Carte menu at the restaurant was limited. I ordered pasta in tomato sauce with garlic and olives and they got me plain boiled spaghetti. When I complained they gave me a tomato sauce and then tried to make things better by giving completely dessert.
There was some pipe laying work going on on the approach road to the hotel and we had to walk uphill to enter the premises one day. Luckily it was not the day we arrived with our baggage.
The pillows here are huge...too high. They can give e anyone a crick in the neck.
All in all a pretty, comfortable, old fashioned but well equipped hotel with spacious rooms. Worth a stay.

Beautiful view, comfortable stay, and super friendly, welcoming staff! Everyone was very kind and helpful, greeting us every day and ensuring we had all we needed. Mohammed, one of the hotel staff who cleaned & set up the rooms, always left us something creative like a dressed up pillow or flowers when housekeeping was done. Very friendly restaurant staff and room service was fast. The hotel is at the top of the hill in walking distance to the Nubian Museum. Security was great and made us feel safe especially when leaving for a long tour at 4am. On a lazy day, we just sat on the balcony, drank tea and enjoyed the view.

We were welcomed with a refreshing hibiscus drink we were given the highest floor with wonderful views of the Nile and the pool. We stayed in 2 rooms next to each other. We ate at the dinner buffet which was good. Breakfast was included and was a huge spread. Rooms were fine beds were hard which we were fine with. Location was nice just near the Nubian museum. No WiFi in rooms. If I came again I would stay here. Better then staying on the islands.

The first of 3 days at Basma Hotel and three colleagues and I, after arriving late, opted to eat there rather than venture out.
The hotel’s waiter told us we should all go for pizza. The diners at an un-cleared table nearby looked like they had left in a hurry, leaving behind sizeable pieces of pizza on their plates.
Two of my group ordered Cold Meze, which the hotel menu listed as: babaganoush, fetoush, stuffed vine leaves, tahini and a couple of other Egyptian classics. What came was a nest of chopped green salad holding three shot glasses containing yoghurt, tahini and tomato ketchup. The waiter insisted there was nothing wrong, even saying the tahini was not tahini and infact babaganoush and that we just can’t see it, or taste it. He walked off.
He came back to offer free portions of french fries. I had grilled chicken sandwich which was lukewarm and to top it off, after dinner I found my TV remote control didn’t work. I spoke to reception suggesting it needs new batteries but it seemed obvious from the tone that this wouldn’t happen quickly.
The next night I’m the only person in the bar. I watch two waiters chat, for ages. It took 10 minutes to get a can of beer. So far so bad.
By now we are on our final day.
After returning from work we found in each of our rooms a ‘body’ on the bed, made from our own clothes, a pillow and toilet roll for the head.
It was just about on the funny side of sinister. But none of us were sure.
Until we spotted the culprit, a jolly house keeper, way down the corridor. We looked at him strangely, he looked back, and then all started to laugh.
15 minutes later in the pool for the first time, and it was lovely, the nicest pool on the tour so far. Later I accidentally discovered a small bar indoors that had a full size snooker table. Cue an evening of great fun.
At the eleventh hour the hotel transformed itself. But the TV remote still didn’t work.
