A 5-star luxury hotel in a 19th-century Victorian palace on the banks of the river Nile. Great location, really pleasant and clean rooms. I am very satisfied with my stay until now for 2 weeks. I stay in a Luxury Room on the 7th floor of the Nile Wing with a terrace and a great view of the Nile River, Aswan Museum and Elephantine Island. All of the people are incredibly helpful and generous with their time and advice. The free wi-fi was easy to connect and reliable. The elegant 1902 Restaurant was quite impressive. This was one of my best experiences in a hotel stay. I highly recommend this hotel. I hope to stay again one day.

My wife and I were at the Old Cataract Hotel (OCH) in early March, and finished our trip just in time to get home safely. After more than a month staying at home, we have had an opportunity to relive and savor the experience of our stay. The OCH was built in the late 1800's and still retains an old world flavor. On the inside, the rooms are all completely modern. We took most of our meals there, and enjoyed a daily cocktail hour, with outstanding service. For her fans, Agatha Christie wrote Death on the Nile there in the 1930's while her husband was an engineer working nearby. Walking around the common area and the grounds, you can imagine bumping into her or one of the many other famous guests who have stayed there in the past. They offer a free tour of the hotel and its history and I recommend you take advantage of this. Before we left on this trip a number of our friends questioned the safety of such a trip. We booked the trip through an established tour operator, which I recommend, and the trip went without a hitch. All of the Egyptians were met were extremely friendly and helpful. Of course, local vendors can seem aggressive, but we never felt uncomfortable or unsafe. All of us have seen pictures of the main Egyptian sites, but seeing them in person is a different experience entirely. The magnitude of the accomplishment, and 5,000 years ago, is incredible. Egypt is, or was, reemerging as a place to visit after its troubles, and well deserves to be on a trip bucket list.

This must be one of the iconic hotels in the World, but they have not rested on their laurels. We had an enormous suite, which was very comfortable – our only complaint was the bath was so huge that it felt wrong filling it up in the middle of the desert. The view is magical, so much so that at times the prime positions are taken by non-guests, especially for afternoon tea, which can feel a bit frustrating. However, we did get to eat at Table 1 (Agatha Christie’s table) so not all bad. If one is going to stay in Aswan, we felt there was nowhere else one should stay.

On a recent visit to Aswan, our group enjoyed high tea in the most beautiful setting, close to the Nile as we watched the setting sun. Excellent food and service but most spectacular was the view. We were able to relax and soak in the experience - why not picture the history of Winston Churchill and Agatha Christie as much as possible?! We left vowing that if/when we return, we will treat ourselves to a stay at the hotel. Walking thru the lobby as we entered gave us just a taste of days gone by.

What a beautiful hotel, right on the Nile! Our vacation planner really thought we should stay in the new tower, maybe it's nice, but the suite we had right on the water (Room 1006) was out of this world! The room was huge, large king, lots of closet space, separate sitting area with a couch and tv, large bathroom, we had a nice platter of food and fruit on our table waiting for us when we arrived. Honestly the best part, we had a nice 6x10 deck that was pretty private overlooking the Nile, amazing view! There are a few restaurants at the hotel, nice pool, and the grounds are wonderful. You can walk into town easy, maybe a ten minute walk or less.
