I enjoyed the stay and had a very good quality time.
The pool needs to be larger and needs renovation
As with all prior visits, I am already counting the days until I am able to return to what has become perhaps my favorite hotel property of any hotel brand worldwide.
On a visit to the Terrace Cafe Restaurant on the advertised Italian theme night the only Italian item in the entire buffet was already cooked spaghetti and tomato sauce. There were dozens of selections in the cold buffet of different salads most with wilted greens and a number of unappetizing looking hot entrees. There were a plentiful selection of desserts.
Two smallish plates of salad from the buffet cost 395 Egyptian pounds. I was told it was the same price if I ate everything else in the buffet as well.
The large restaurant had only two other tables occupied while I was there. All the tables were set for dinner. Some place settings had cloth napkins, others paper napkins. I was led to a paper napkin table. As I sat finishing my salad, all the cloth napkins at other empty tables were being collected in anticipation of no furhter customers for the evening even though we were more than an hour from closing.
Upon arrival we were disappointed to see that the carpets were dirty, the furniture is old, the finishings are poor and it is overall in need of a serious renovation. When we asked for another room we were given ones that essentially were the same as the first. The standards are just not the same as North America. So if you are looking for an above average property you need to look for a rating of 5+
The hotel location was good - right on the Nile river and you could walk around to the Tower and some shops. Just have to be very careful with the traffic.
The breakfast had quite a bit to offer each morning and the pool area was very nice to use after touring each day.
However we ordered drinks by the pool one afternoon and were shocked at the cost. Not sure why we were charged such an exorbitant amount but it was certainly the last time we ordered anything from the hotel.
Room and sleeping conditions are excellent. HK Gomaa took perfect care about the cleanliness of our room, the kids were amazed with the decoration he made from the towels.
Unfortunately, the parking is not free here. This valet parking is 150 le per day and is located in the mall beside. The staff brought the car upon your request if you inform like 10 minutes before.
The area around the hotel is noisy and with busy traffic, you just need to run between the cars to cross to the next side. And there is Tahrir square, Egyptian museum etc. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, we prefer to discover local cafes around. There are a lot of places for any meal.
The Hotel had charged us the full amount for 3 rooms / 3 nights, a month after the booking. However, after the cancellation, they have refused to reimburse the amount charged to my card account.
It is shameful that a chain of the likes of Hilton is making profit out of a world pandemic. All other Hotels booked in Egypt have waived the cancellation fee, despite most bookings being non-refundable, but, Hilton Ramses is obstinate and unaware of their social responsibility.
We all will recommend that avoid booking at this Hotel in future like us. It is very risky.
The first day, we went to breakfast at Koshary Abu Tarek, not realizing that breakfast was free for even silver Hilton Hhonors members (I thought only golds got free breakfast) then spent the day at the Egyptian museum. Second day, we went to breakfast at the hotel because we had to leave at 8 for a desert adventure, and learned that breakfast was free, which is cool. :) Breakfast was good, eggs/toast/bacon to order, along with pastries and coffee/juice. It did the trick.
It is a bit of a walk to the Egyptian museum, and although it's close to the Nile, there isn't much to do right around the hotel. There is a small shopping mall type place across the street, where we got a few souvenirs for one tenth the price of the souvenir shop in the hotel (same cat statues, magic lamps, camel toys that you see all over Egypt).
Overall, the hotel was comfortable, modern and we have few very minor issues, it was a good stay.
