The facilities were clean and well- maintained. Despite the cold weather, the room was warmly heated up throughout the whole night. My friend and I were served with the Korean traditional breakfast. One of the perks is that you get to experience wearing the hanbok costume for photoshoots with no additional cost. Hosts are friendly, it was a lovely stay!...

Good accommodation for those keen to experience the traditional guest house in Korea. Location is ideal if you plan to visit the two main palaces and the Bukchon area. Walking from Anguk station can be a slight challenge as the path is steep but there is a bus that stops just right in front the guest house. The staff members...

We were only surprised when we had to carry luggage up to 2nd floor upon reaching. But after that all are wonderful. It has a great view from the top. Hosts were wonderful people, even brought us to the shop & translate for us when we want to make hanbok. Even recommend us the palace & secret garden next to...

My family had an unique experience at Seoul's traditional Bukchonmaru Hanok guesthouse. With initial hesitation to book insteadof a standard hotel, our stay turned out to be a fulfilling one. Centrally located, the accomodation's ambience (we booked a private family room with attached toilet) is very Korean. The neighbourhood is not the hectic town type, and we are treated to...

Beautifully located for a wide range of eateries, craft shops, metro (easy walking distance), sites and sights. The family were very welcoming, helpful and a delight to speak with. Beds were essentially a mattress on a heated floor and even I (with bad knees and old age!!) slept wonderfully and easily. I loved the place!!

Great place! I was worried it would be a bit far from the action but it turned out to be the best. Very well located - has a great fried chicken takeaway at the end of the street. Very welcoming hosts, very thoughtful and friendly. Breakfast was a treat - each day was something new and very Korean. Taste is...

We stayed for two nights in this hanok in a family room with a private bathroom. Four people is just nice to fit in, and it was all very cozy. The breakfast was traditional Korean style with different dishes and soup everyday. We had the chance to try on very beautiful and traditional hanbok and took some really nice pictures...

Our 2nd visit to Korea became even more memorable because of our stay at Bukchon Maru. The whole experience was great. Got to eat traditional Korean food for breakfast (so delicious) and enjoyed touring the village with the beautiful traditional Korean hanok (houses). We also had the experience of wearing the traditional Korea outfits called Hanbok. If you are you...

Wise decision to spend our first night in this place. Since our flight arrives late afternoon, we choose this place to stay to maximize our Korean experience. The room's heating coil under the floor makes it warm in a very cold weather (9 C) . The room is 4x4 enough for two people and with shared bathroom - but it...

The owners were very friendly and accommodating! The place had a nice view and is near many tourist spots! Breakfast prepared by them was also very nice. It was overall a very good experience staying in a Korean Traditional house. ❤️

Staying in Samcheongdong / Bukchon

Neighborhood Profile
Samcheongdong / Bukchon
This historic neighborhood was traditionally home to Seoul’s middle and upper-classes. Now it’s most famed for its clusters of beautiful, traditional Korean homes (called hanok), many of which are found in Bukchon. Many of these homes have now been converted into restaurants, cafes, shops, and even guesthouses, and their unique architecture offers a look at Korea’s traditional beauty. Samcheongdong’s main and side streets attract locals and tourists alike for their quaint and charming scenery, while the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) serves as the residence for South Korea’s president. Art fans will love exploring the many independent and private art galleries in the area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Bukchon Maru Hanok Guesthouse is located in the heart of the Bukchon Hanok residential area in Seoul. Bukchon (meaning North Village in Korean) has the highest concentration of Hanoks, the traditional tiled-roof Korean buildings. We are a family run guest house, having owned this property for over 30 years. Due to its proximity to the local palaces, Bukchon has been home to high government officials and prestigious families of the late Chosen Dynasty, who needed to commute to the local palaces often. The name "Bukchon" was synonymous with status and class in the era no more than 100 years ago. Along with the tumultuous modern Korean history, the quiet neighborhood of Bukchon also underwent significant changes. Modern buildings began to appear, and with the elimination of traditional class system, more and more people swarmed in to the village. ... more   less
