A friend recommended we stay at a traditional guesthouse, and we had a good experience with this hanok. We have 3 small children, so we definitely needed space. Communication was always prompt prior to our stay, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Since we visited Seoul during a local holiday week, we had to switch residences after 2 nights.... More

Great stay in Goldfish Inn. I’m so impressed by good service and unique architecture of the hotel. The room is so nice with traditional hakon designed style – The floor is heated so we feel comfortable to sleep. We also easily visit some attractions in Seoul, just 10 minute walk to Myeongdong, Namsan, Jongno, Gwanghwamun, Sinchon. We spent wonderful time... More

We stayed for 5 nights as we didn't want the hassle of packing repeatedly. There are actually 3 separate residences so there isn't really a reception desk. Email enquiries were promptly responded so no issues there. The ondol heated floor was really nice but the thin mattress provided less so. We asked for extra mattress and got it later that... More

I spend 2 days at the Goldfish Inn with my gf and booked this place because I liked to be in a traditional Hanok House. I cannot recommend it. We booked the "Premium Room" which was only like 8 square meters. Do not trust the pictures on the website! Tiny bathroom where you can't stand straight if your taller than... More

I stayed a week at The Goldfish Inn and was truly enchanted! The neighborhood takes your breath away, the lovely cafes and Boutiques...a feast for the eyes! Transportation is a breeze and so many attractions are near, as well as fabulous Restaurants. My room in the 3 room house was quite comfortable, especially with the Ondol heating(floor heating). A traditional... More

I really recommend goldfish if you want somewhere traditional, central and different. The traditional hakon has a heated floor, you sleep on a rolled out mattress. The room is bear the sliding walls are paper.. It's suits the purpose perfectly but probably not for more than - couple of nights. I was glad to move onto a place with a... More

Staying in the old district was a good experience. The staff were helpful. The building is historic and charming. There was less selection than I expected for breakfast. I was set to be disappointed, but the toast and coffee was exceptionally delicious. My spouse liked the tea, but I thought it tasted like soap (cashmere bouquet). The price was really... More

I stayed at the Goldfish Inn for three nights in 2013. The staff was friendly and helpful, the rooms and the bathroom were very clean, and they gave a convenient little business card to give to taxi drivers with the address written in Korean, which was a nice touch. The place is far enough off the main road to be... More

Stayed here for three nights. Was my first trip to Korea and wanted to stay in a traditional Korean house (hanok). Booked a triple room, which I felt was just spacious enough for two persons. Staff was friendly and approachable. Came to Korea in Spring, so weather can get a bit chilly at night. Love the fact that there were... More

Staying in Samcheongdong / Bukchon

Neighborhood Profile
Samcheongdong / Bukchon
This historic neighborhood was traditionally home to Seoul’s middle and upper-classes. Now it’s most famed for its clusters of beautiful, traditional Korean homes (called hanok), many of which are found in Bukchon. Many of these homes have now been converted into restaurants, cafes, shops, and even guesthouses, and their unique architecture offers a look at Korea’s traditional beauty. Samcheongdong’s main and side streets attract locals and tourists alike for their quaint and charming scenery, while the Blue House (Cheong Wa Dae) serves as the residence for South Korea’s president. Art fans will love exploring the many independent and private art galleries in the area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Hello!Thank you for your interest in visiting my house! Our place is situated in the heart of Bukchon hanok residential area in Seoul. Bukchon (Literally “North Village” in Korean) has the highest concentration of hanok, the traditional tiled-roof Korean buildings. Due to its unique location near the two palaces, Bukchon has been home to high government officials and prestigious families of the late Joseon Dynasty. The name “Bukchon” was synonymous to status and class in the era no more than 100 years ago - so if you stay here, you can be sure that you are living in the heart of Korean royal history. We offer two little but charming hanok house that sits in the heart of Bukchon. The rooms can be rented individually or as an entire house. The two major palaces, Gyeongbok-gung and Changdeok-gung, are both in walking distance. If you seek some excitement, the bustling, modern Gangnam and Apgujeong is also an easy commute on the subway. Jongno, Gwanghwamun, Sinchon, Hongdae are never more than 20 minutes away, day and night. As for myself, I am a Korean-American girl who just fell in love with Bukchon. I came to Bukchon while apartment hunting with my husband; we were moving to Seoul from Jeju, and by total coincidence we fell in love with this charming little neighborhood. I wanted to share this magical experience with other visitors to Seoul, because the history is really fascinating. I hope I can share many insights into Korean history, as well as interesting insights about the neighborhood I learned while living here.I am also a graduate student studying English literature and rhetoric. If you love that stuff, I hope to see you even more! :DMy hubby is a mountain buff, and he knows all about the most awe-inspring, spectacular climbing routes around Seoul (we are blessed with many easily accessible mountains near the capital). We are also more than familiar with Jeju Island, if you need help planning in that regard as well! ... more   less
