I'll preface this review by saying that I'm Marriott Gold, IHG Platinum, and Hilton Diamond. This hotel gets a 5-bubble rating from me. My wife and I live in Incheon, only about an hour's drive from Seoul. But we were looking for a cheap, safe, clean, well-located place to spend a 1-night 'staycation' on a FRIDAY night. Hotel PJ Myeongdong didn't disappoint. This hotel compares favorably to a nice "Four Points by Sheraton" or even some lower-end (e.g. non-resort) Sheraton's. For our Friday night reservation, I booked on Agoda on Thursday morning for a 49k KRW rate, and with all taxes included, and with a simple breakfast for two, the total came out to 60k KRW. That's about $52. I had decided that we would endure any major flaws, to spend a night in Seoul for only $52. Well, the hotel was extremely clean. The bedroom of our Standard Double was very big by Seoul standards. The furniture in our room (#613) looked basically new. The bed/linens were spotlessly clean. The closet space was tasteful. A bathrobe and a couple pairs of slippers were in the room when we checked in. The bathroom was very clean and definitely spacious enough. No problems with the shower, although tall people (over 6'2") might need to take the showerhead off to bathe. As others have mentioned, the room offers two free bottles of water in a mini-refrigerator. Coffee/tea and a Philips kettle are included in the room. Wifi was great: no password, no problem. Overall, no significant flaws in the room/bathroom in my experience. The breakfast (during these Covid-19 times) was actually quite satisfying, given our room rate. Unlimited orange juice and apple juice. The breakfast included a small mini-salad, a few pieces of fruit (a crabapple, a bite of melon, and a slice of pineapple), and then a plate that included scrambled eggs, bacon/ham, half a sausage, and a couple crispy hash browns. For our table for two, we were also given a plate of about 6-7 pieces of assorted bread/pastries. (We were told that the coffee wasn't ready yet when we arrived at 7:15am and that we could pick some up when we were done with our breakfast.) The hotel safety is very high. You need your key card not only to access your hotel floor, but also to access your wing of the hotel. Glass sliding doors block entrance to the wings of the hotel. Your key card will grant you access to your room's wing, but not to the other side of the hotel! No construction noises during our stay in October 2020. Covid-19 measures were in place, but a bit spotty. Mainly, there was an electronic temperature check at the main entrance, but then elsewhere (i.e. side gate) there was no temperature check. Inside the same complex is a bakery ("Bread 51") and a convenience store. The hotel has underground parking, and it was very easy to access on a Friday morning. But Saturday noon was a different story. The hotel manages many weddings on Saturday and so the parking garage was full when we checked out. We motioned to the valet that we were parked behind a car, and within a minute, he had moved the car ahead of ours out of the way, and we exited the garage. (My wife and I suspect that parking is even easier during weekday nights.) We didn't use the shuttle bus. The surrounding areas are a bit industrial, but the hotel is very close to a few different metro stations. For our Friday lunch we walked from the hotel to Myeongdong. For Friday dinner, we took Metro Line #3 to Sinsa stop (7 stops away). (Tons of places to have dinner there, and we also went to a cool speakeasy there called "Boxing Tiger" which is a really swanky yet chilled out place to have a drink after 8pm.) Are there *ANY* cons to this hotel? If you read the other reviews, you'll find that almost all the typical complaints are really trying VERY hard to find faults. If I had to find faults, there are only two: (1) The hallways are sprayed with a scent (lavender?) and it's quite strong. Not strong enough to make you run through the hall to your room, but strong enough that you will ask why the hotel feels a need to spray so much. (2) In the middle of October, the temperature outdoors was very cool, and so the room didn't need to be cooled down. However, I would have liked to have control over the fan. Unfortunately the fan would not turn on, regardless of how I operated the temperature control system. Very likely the entire temperature/fan control system was unavailable to hotel guests. I opened the window and there was a nice breeze, but it still would have been nice if hotel guests had some control over the fan and ventilation. Anyways, again, for a 4-star hotel (i.e. think Marriot Cat 3/4), this was a 5-bubble hotel. For any room rate especially under $60 (all-in), my wife and I would be very satisfied to stay there again.…
We’ve just spent the weekend at Hotel PJ and had a great time! The value of the hotel is great and all areas of the hotel were super clean! Not to mention breakfast is included in your stay, which was a great addition! You’re about a 5 minute walking distance to two subway stations, making it very convenient to explore the city as well! And the hotel’s location is centrally located in Seoul. Overall we highly recommend staying here and look forward to many more stays whenever we come to Seoul!
Ths hotel is good, the room is clean, good security, the room is larger than expected, also with a large balcony. The bed and pillow are comfortable. There is frequent shuttle bus to the main shopping areas and very convenient. But if going back to the hotel, it is better to take taxi, which is the only disadvantage of this hotel. The surrounding is quite old and quiet.
We stayed in this hotel the 3rd times in these 12 months. Convenient hotel with reasonable price. Sincere staff and room tidy up services. But no need to exchange teeth brush everyday. Moreover, you could leave me the remaining bath jel, shampoo etc of previous day, I can use them before open a new one. All for environmental protection. But one thing, bath jel, shampoo, conditioner quality really no goods.
Not in a particularly good area in terms of proximity to Myeongdong, nothing much around the immediate area. The hotel is ok, but the bed was terrible, back ache City. There are many closer to the shopping district than this, so I'd give this a miss if you're looking for a short walk to shopping
