Built in 1901The Strand has featured as a landmark of this vibrant city for over a century, offering guests an oasis of calm, timeless elegance and understated luxury. The recent renovation project afforded a complete overhaul of its infrastructure, and restored The Strand to its former glory, featuring marble and teak wood flooring, ceiling fans, chandeliers and lacquer wood furniture, interspersed with Burmese antiques. Our 24-hour bespoke Butler service attends to the 32 suites, ensuring every whim is taken care of, and The Strand offers guests a welcome respite from the frenetic city, buoyed by the warmth and kindness of the Myanmar people, which remains the very essence of The Strand. Often regarded as the Grand Dame of Yangon, The Strand offers guests the opportunity to languor amidst a rich tapestry of past meets present, seamlessly blending architectural heritage with history, set against a backdrop of Colonial splendor.

A well restored heritage building in the downtown area of 'colonial architecture' on the river. It is small (32 rooms on 2 floors) with a Butler on each floor (our Butler Joe was energetic and efficient and very helpful): large and comfortable rooms and very personal service.

We had a fabulous stay at the Strand. Only 2 nights, but it was such a pleasant stay. Our butler was so friendly and attentive. The breakfast a la carte was so good but slowly. You have to go with time to enjoy it. Try the croissants and the chocolate cake, very crispy and

A magnificent hotel that exudes old world charm and class but with all the modern amenities. The staff are brilliant and really make this hotel beyond outstanding. Nothing is too much trouble and they are always discretely willing to serve you. The butler and check in process

This is a really beautiful hotel. We last stayed in it over 20 years ago, and although it is has obviously been updated, it is still pretty much the same within a city that has changed beyond recognition. It's not the fault of the hotel that the sleepy backwater has become

We had been in Myanmar in 1997 and decided to visit this beautiful country again with our 4 children. We wanted to have a ‘colonial’ experience in Yangon and decided to go for the best: The Strand. And indeed, we loved it! Staff is Super friendly and helpful, there is a small

Dear PanagiotisL184 Good afternoon from The Srand, and thank you for your recent review on Trip advisor. It is indeed wonderful to learn that the time spent with us offered you an opportunity to experience the 'Grand Dame of Yangon' together with your family. The location of the property is ideal as you venture out to explore the Downtown area, with its market traders and merchants selling their wares amidst the architectural heritage buildings and places of historical interest in this fascinating city. We trust the journey on-board our Strand Cruise affords you a little rest and relaxation, and we look forward to welcoming you once more to The Strand on a future occasion.

Dear Madam The Strand has featured as a Yangon landmark for over a century, and so too has the tradition of allowing smoking in Sarkies bar, a rare occurrence within any European or Western establishment. The Strand remains mindful of the issues surrounding passive smoking, and at no time are either our guests or staff subjected to intolerable levels that would directly affect their health, particularly within the confines of our designated smoking area, and we apologize if you experienced any discomfort as a result of our policy. Our staff and management would certainly intervene should the levels of smoke be regarded as either detrimental, or in the interest of public health, although we are fortunate to have not yet been required to address an issue of this nature to date. Kind regards.

Good afternoon from The Strand, Yangon. Yes, the swimming pool, garden and outdoor area is now open, and offers guests the perfect setting to escape the bustle of Yangon. Our limousine service would be available to collect you from the main train station in Yangon, and the journey to The Strand is priced at $15.00. Thank you. Mark Murraybrown Operation Manager at The Strand.

Good afternoon from The Strand, Yangon and thank you for your recent enquiry. The finishing touches of the new development are currently in place at The Strand, and this will include a wellness centre and gym, which will be welcome additions to the property, although this project as well as the swimming pool is not due for completion until mid-November 2017 .Mark Murraybrown Operation Manager at The Strand, Yangon.

Does the hotel accept credit cards (Visa) for payment of incidental expenses
in myanmar only visa is accepted. my american express was not available. my particular bank visa was not accepted in myanmar although my travel friend used her visa. so you need to check with your individual visa provider as myanmar can be "red flagged" by your bank was frustrating. we went through destination asia which was over the top excellent and they handled our tours payments made ahead of time

"Avoid the front of the hotel due to noise from the road"
"Dont get a side-street facing room. Its very loud in the early morning and will wake light sleepers."
"Rooms on the second floor (the higher floor of two floors with rooms) would be quieter as the streets outside could be noisy."
"note to choose a room not facing main street"
"Rooms overlooking the main entrance ironically tend to be quieter than those facing the side streets."
