Very over priced in terms of what you pay for a room and for food served compared to other accomadation on the island. I do not recommend. Significantly better options available. Complimentary breakfast offered is such that the manority of guests bring their own. The lodge is more like a backpackers than a $150 motel at which upon arrival you receive one towel and a bar of soap. Do not expect anything further for the duration of your visit. If you do stay, remember to take plates and or cultery with you for breakfast.

The welcome could not have been warmer even if the rooms are quite basic. That said, the wifi works in the rooms (not a given in the South Pacific), the shower works well as does the airconditioning. Best of all, a wonderful buffet (lobster, sashimi, kebabs, coleslaw, battered fish...), and very talented local dancers were laid on for us on our final night. Hats off too to the ladies in the laundry who did a month's worth of washing for us from our month long South Pacific tour. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed here 2 nights, and will never return. Ugh! and Yuck! Here is my assessment: PROS * Friendly staff * Clean parking lot * Free clothes washed CONS * No soap in room or bathroom * No shampoo in room or bathroom * Refrigerator with British plug type, but Kiribati plug outlet (they didn’t fit each other, so the fridge was useless without an adapter!) * Air-conditioner permanently set at 32 C (82.4 F) with no remote to control temperature * Dirty floor in room * Somewhat dirty sheets * Very filthy bathroom * Leaking shower in bathroom * Often no toilet tissue in bathroom * “Continental Breakfast” consisted of slices of white bread, butter that looked like liquid mayonnaise, tea or coffee. That’s it! * Badly torn upholstered easy chair and sofa * Several cats running around begging for food * Very noisy in the hallway and outside my room; as a result, I slept very poorly

I stayed in one of the cheaper rooms (AUD $99 per night) so some of the comments will not apply to the more expensive rooms. Note that there are two Betio Lodges (number 1 and number 2). This review is of the Betio Lodge that is about half way down the Betio island road. First the good news: The room was clean, quiet and pleasant. There is a quiet and effective air conditioner that works well. Very nice people on staff at reception and at the food service but sometimes confusing who is doing what. Free instant coffee available 24/7 and dry cereal for breakfast is also provided. Meals that normally include rice can be ordered without rice with the rice replaced by vegetables. It is only a 10 minute walk to the main shopping area and government offices on Betio. Though the hotel only offers a fixed menu of four items for lunch and for dinner, there is a decent Chinese restaurant next door if the listed items are not what you want. There is a secure and large parking lot for rental cars and there is easy access to the main road where there are frequent micro-buses for transport around the island. There is free Internet accessible in some rooms and the "lobby" area but very slow except very early in the morning when it is not bad. The room has a small refrigerator and a small flat screen tv. The bad news: Only one clothes hanger, the bath mirror is small and mounted so high I could only see the top of my head, shaving was difficult. Hot water sometimes though never really cold. As there are no windows except in the bath, the room is very dark at night and there are no bed lamps so getting up at night and searching for a light switch is not always a good experience. Very few power points so bring a multiple outlet cord if you have several things to charge or operate off mains power. Food delivery can be very slow (over 1 hour in one case) and on days there is a flight the only person qualified to take payments for rooms will be at the airport much of the day and in my case I had to wait three hours before I could check out.

We were two friends travelling together, but using separate accommodation. We booked separate rooms at Betio Lodge #2 and absolutely loved our stay. We were met at Bonriki Airport and taken direct to Betio (airport transfers are complimentary). The staff were great and had our rooms ready for check in, despite us arriving at the early hour of 7am! Rooms were well presented with air-con and free wifi. Good choice of meals are available – lunch and dinner at reasonable prices. Breakfast is complimentary, generally just the cereal and toast variety (except for Sunday morning when a cooked breakfast is provided). A bar is also available offering refreshments required after a day in the humidity. A free laundry service is also provided. I wanted to stay in Betio so I could visit the World War II relics on foot rather than doing a guided tour, and Betio Lodge is perfectly located for this. I can’t talk more highly of the staff. I can’t remember all the names, but Agnes was certainly one who took great care of us. Agnes also arranged for one of the staff to take us down to a wonderful sunset viewing point (for a nominal fee) – which I highly recommend. I would come here again.
