Traveling for business cna leave you with a sense of isolation especially if it's international and over several weeks.
First the room, The suite has a functional kitchen, dishwasher, washing machine, micrawave and fridge freeze, Island bench for eating with ample space to store your shopping.
Open plan lounge connected to the kitchen with sliding double doors leading to the balcony and view across down town Port Moresby and the harbour / Bay, very comfortable with modern TV and multiple channels.
The bed and pillows are very comfortable and I've enjoyed quality sleep. TV in the bedroom with the same selction of channels as in the lounge. Double door again leading out to the balcony with the same view across the harbour and Bay.
So why the title?
Over the weekend I wanted to visit the National Nature park and also the Commonwealth War Cemetery at Bomana for those fallen during the 1940 - 1945 WW2.
I enquired at reception on the average cost of a taxi to the park and cemetery (circa 80 Kina just to the park). What the arranged was one of the hotel staff (Koni) to accompany me and a reliable, secure driver (Colin) for a reasonable price.

The hotel staff went above and beyond to ensure my personal security and subsequently I had a enjoyable time viewing some spectacular countryside and paying respect to those that have given the ultimate sacrifice.

My husband and I stayed at the Grand Papua hotel for 2 nights.

The hotel had security (for transfers, out front and the actual building), the room was spacious if older in style (note that whole hotel is currently being made over so we got a room that hadn’t been yet) and the reception staff were very helpful.

We ate in the restaurant whilst we were there. Service was up and down in standard. When it was down some food was never added to the system to be made and it was sometimes hard to get the servers attention. When up, the servers were genuinely smiling and attentive. The decor was very nice.

The food was well cooked, delicious and in above average portions.

The view from the 15th floor both east and west was stunning.

If I’m being picky there were a few things that could have been better, but for a couple of days it was a nice stay.

The hotel is situated on a hilly location but the hotel has been cleverly structured to fit into the natural contours of the landscape. It makes it an exciting location because of this. The facilities and service in my view are excellent. The basement car parking is good though the space is tight but this should be no problem for any experienced driver. I love the hotel and can recommend it to any traveller wanting to experience Port Moresby and stay at this hotel.

I enjoyed the comfort of the hotel with my colleagues and kids. The view on both sides is breathtaking. my children enjoyed the swimming pool and the pizzas there. However, we had only one towel in the room, no floor towel, when requested for extra tea/sugar not supplied, even after several follow ups not successful. No tea spoon, water and milk were not replaced.Otherwise spacious room and was all good.

All good but only few things to be adjust. Things that need to make improvement are cleaning service in the room and the Transportation at drop off and pick up. Room cleaning service must also include the balcony and only in the indoor every time. Pick up and drop off in prior to the flights are very important. We had been late and missed our flights. So who can be liable to our flight expenses?

Dear johnmoso06, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We're glad to hear that you had an overall positive experience, but we're also deeply sorry to learn about the issues you faced during your stay. Regarding the room cleaning service, we apologize for the oversight. Your comments about including the balcony in the cleaning routine have been noted. We have construction workers currently working on the external parts of the building preparing to paint the whole building as part of our hotel refurbishment project and we are doing our best to keep our balconies clean from dust. You are more than welcome to request our team at front desk to organize a cleanup should you have any dust or debris fall into your balcony in future. As for the transportation services, we understand how critical it is to have reliable pick-up and drop-off arrangements, especially when it comes to catching flights. We're truly sorry to hear about the inconvenience this caused and the impact it had on your travel plans. We take such matters very seriously and have already been in contact with our provider Black Swan to investigate this incident when we received your initial feedback through Radisson guest survey. We note that you are a loyal guest of ours and will do our best to ensure your future stays are memorable and please feel free to reach out to myself or my team whist you are at the hotel and we will action your requests promptly. Looking forward to meeting you in person when you are in POM again. Best regards, Vic Namasivayam General Manager Grand Papua Hotel

Everything was alright. I just thought that a complimentary breakfast in the morning would make up for the money spent. You can't let your guest leave with a empty stomach in the morning. At least a complimentary breakfast between 7am and 10am would be a bonus for the hotel.
But overall it was alright.

Worst.... highly do not recommend this hotel anymore. I lost my phone in the toilet at the B1 level where the conference rooms are and they told me the cctv in that area have not been working for over a month. No help from the hotel. Resident manager said public area not hotels problem. And the other cctv that was working caught no other guests entering except staff only in that area. The aircon in the room that night was not working. Their staff need more customer service trainings. Not sure why they promote luxury when their people skills are useless including all managers. For your own safety due to cameras not working in this hotel I would highly not recommend this hotel. Choose somewhere else to dine and sleep with you guarantee your safety and your personal belongings

Dear 605katea Not sure why you are posting this on social media. as you know we clearly tried to help you recover the phone you lost. You were intoxicated and very unfair to our employees who were trying to help you the best they can. Our employees go the extra mile to assist you but your behavior with all respect is unacceptable and I don't see what the purpose is to repeat your dissatisfaction on social media other than to harm our employees and the reputation of the hotel. If we come across your phone we will obviously return it back to you immediately. Thank you very much and our sympathy for the loss of your phone

Stayed at the Grand Papua for 9 days in June and 4 days in July. Standard room, recommend the ocean side for best view but both the ocean and harbour side rooms have good views.
Staff were excellent and provided great service throughout the hotel from, security, reception, housekeeping, bar, restaurant, coffee shop and Spa, every staff member was friendly and professional.
Special mentions to the restaurant and bar staff and to Dorothy and Georgina in guest relations, Ron the F&B Manager and Lal the Exec Chef. Meals were excellent, I was part of a business group and everyone enjoyed the meals, Lal offered to arrange anything special we wanted.
The executive lounge and gym provide great facilities.
Yes, the rooms definitely need updating, but the hospitality throughout the hotel was outstanding and I look forward to staying again after the renovations are complete.
