The Goldilocks of a trio of Torarica Hotels very close to each other near Paramaribo’s historic centre (not the most expensive, nor the cheapest). Slightly run-down (the corridors especially) and occasionally very inefficient but actually a very pleasant and convenient place to stay. Plenty of tourists, the large majority Dutch.

Rooms are clean and very large, beds comfortable, shower good (toiletries provided, though rather harsh) and airco pleasantly effective. Fairly strong WIFI everywhere (video streaming OK in some places but not others). Will arrange airport transfers etc.

Huge pool with plenty of loungers for those who like looking like lobsters.

Hotel restaurant is good and there are also plenty of others within walking distance (including at the neighbouring Royal Torarica which I rather liked and where you can charge to your room at the TR) or short taxi ride. ATM in the hotel lobby. Fort Zeelandia less than 5 minutes walk away.

Avoid walk in rates (or at least check what they are before booking) - on my second stay I hadn’t booked in advance and the lady at reception wouldn’t give me the $120 rate I saw on booking dot com but insisted on $150. So I booked for $120 on internet and the hotel lost out on the booking commission - but heh, rules are rules. I guess there’s less chance of abuse by hotel staff that way even if it’s apparent commercial silliness on behalf of hotel management.

We visited the Torarica Resort early in the morning as the pickup point for a tour to Dan Paati by Access travel. We gathered in the lobby and the staff was so friendly as to allow us to enjoy some of the breakfast tea and coffee. Very warm welcome!

Stayed one night on tour with KE Adventure UK and local agent Wilderness Explorers. Had previously stayed at more down-market Eco Torarica on two occasions on this tour and apparently been upgraded by management for this one -night stay. Unfortunately, did not arrive from tour until 7.40 p.m. and left at 6 a.m. so not much time to enjoy the nice room, very pleasant restaurant and bar, and inviting pool.

I have stayed at the Royal Torarica and the Torarica many times over many months since 2020 and before 2020. The Royal is a quarantine hotel and hence a monopoly. The room prices at the Royal and the Torarica are twice as much as a local hotel, maybe more. Breakfast included but the breakfast "buffet" consists of nothing more than the parts required to make a ham and cheese sandwich, for weeks on end. These hotels are in the tropics and fresh fruit is mysteriously absent. Papaya, Mango? Banana? Citrus? No, but they sometimes have inedible local green oranges. The prices for a la carte orders are insane. $8 USD for a litre of local beer, US$45 for a bottle of plonk. Local people serving this make about, oh never mind, it's too shocking, some people here make less than US$45 per month. The food is terrible but expensive. $8.50 USD for a stone cold burger and icicle fries.

If you walk across the street you can eat and drink for a fraction of the price. The problem is that with Covid nothing is open or partly open for take away.
The management of the Torarica hotels should be ashamed.

And as for noise, the Torarica is non stop thumping music from a so called "DJ". Nobody with a garden view (i.e. DJ side view) can sleep. How is this even possible?

When we can, we will stay elsewhere.

Rooms are not very clean and in dire need of refurbishment. Very noisy as you can here the room service trolley coming down the whole corridor and cleaners chatting away. Breakfast was ok however the menu in the restaurant was limited and the food and drinks very expensive by Surinam standards. Everything is priced in USD not SRD and is subject to service charge and tax . A Parbo beer works out to be 3 times the price of the restaurant and bars opposite the hotel. Pool and grounds of the hotel are a little run down but ok.
The Internet bandwidth is throttled to 3mbs. The staff are very friendly.

The Torarica Resort is a very good hotel. The property is very expansive close to a beautiful river, and it also adjourn the Royal Torarica hotel. The staff are very friendly, they know their stuff, very professional and always wear smiles on their faces. The food in thd hotel is very hood and the portions are on the very large sizes.

The only downside is the booming music coming from one or two specific bars and lounges directly opposite the hotel. The noise kept us awake most of the nights, with thunderous shakes of the windows. The hotel management must engage the government to either move the clubs or limit their unnecessarily loud music to the daytime.

Staying here for a business conference. This is my second time here but this room was worse. Instead of a king bed I got 2 double beds joined together and the shower is absolutely horrible. It is half enclosed and all the water is getting out and the water pressure sucks.

For my final night in Paramaribo I was looking for a nice place to hang out and this was it. The hotel has a nice layout and the grounds are beautiful and there is a nice big pool to get wet in. Service and food are great and the rooms are big and spacious. And for me it was a little more special because it was built in the early 60's and so it had that mid-century modern feel which I love. And you can't beat the location, the best of any hotel I think. I'd definitely stay here again. Just so you know, I checked out the Royal and the Eco, but liked this one in the middle. The Royal was newer, but not as nice on all levels, and so for me I'd pay less to stay here. And then the Eco was a little too basic and a little further away. For the price differential with the Eco, it is worth the extra money to stay at the first and best Torarica.

Beautiful hotel in the center of Paramaribo and by the river. Walking distance to a number of historic places and tour operators which facilitated the logistics of the various tours we did. The children enjoyed the pool and loved the garden. Food was delicious and the staff was super friendly and helpful.
The only recommendation we want to give is to upgrade the reception area, needs renovation, remember is the first impression you give to visitors.
In all, we had a lovely stay and we will come back.

Pets and service animals are not allowed at Torarica Hotel. Only in big countries USA/Europe few hotels adapted themselves for allowing pets, like near the airport when before travel with Pet and even restaurants. In the Netherlands you can keep your pet in the Room like in Amsterdam (Intern.)) while have dinner downstairs, Cute. But pets in Surinam you'll find only in families gardens.

I never saw a familty suite, but in checking on the web I see that they offer a executive room with 2 Queens that sleep 4. There are 2 sections to the hotel, one remodeled and the other not. Make sure if you go that you request the newer section.
