The Excelsior is the Grand Dame of Asuncion. Built in the 80's, it has gone some renovation. The room are huge , clean and bright. The AC could do with a bit of an upgrade. The service is efficient, and discreet. The restaurant of the hotel is very good and strongly recommended. Beautiful relaxing pool. Overall a great hotel

This hotel was built in 1983 to the highest specifications but 30+ years later it could do with a refit. Rooms are huge, AC dodgy, bathrooms tired. Excellent staff, great breakfast, the pool is a pleasure priced OK. Smack dab in the center of a taudry rundown city. But you knew that already.

By my reckoning, this, my most recent visit to the Excelsior was my 20th and at 77, going on 100, I still hope that it will not be my last. I have previously enthused about this hotel, almost ad nauseum and after a brief hiccup two years ago, it appears to have more than recovered the qualities which have made...

You will be struck at the very entrance. Awesome! Magnificent in all ways, service, hospitality, cleaniless, food and above all a decent price. Though a 4 star you feel the royal treat of a luxurious 5 star. Bravo!!

Old, need a lot of improvmentes, staff not so friendly, they don't care so much about you. The rooms are VERY NOISE. Unable to have a good and decent rest. There are some rooms that when you open the window you face with a great white wall. "What a view!" Do not spend your money with this hotel.

Last year I had occasion to comment on the apparent decline in standards of the Excelsior, still one of my favourite hotels, after eight years as a regular visitor. On my most recent visit, I was pleased to note that the “Il Pagliaccio” restaurant had largely overcome the deterioration of both food and service that had formed part of last...

This hotel is very old and with a pour conservation. I regret to say that this was the worst hotel where I've stayed in the last years. I've been in three different rooms. All with a lot of noise coming from the outside air conditioning system. The smell in the bathroom was terrible. I think they use a strong disinfectant....

I always find myself defending the Hotel Excelsior with the same degree of difficulty that I have when I try to explain why I like Paraguay so much. It's very hard to describe what is the attraction of the Hotel Excelsior because it has very few redeeming features. But I guess, as with Paraguay itself,it is the "far away feeling",...

I have just returned from what, by my reckoning, is my 18th visit in seven years to the Excelsior. While it still remains one of the best hotels in my experience, there are, regrettably signs of the near universal phenomenon that once excellence is achieved decadence follows almost inevitably. The first signs of this were in my previous visit of...

This luxury hotel really worth to spend a few days there. Extremely spacious rooms with all facilities, free open air swimming pool (scout 15 metros long) with bar, chairs etc., nice lobby with another bar, pleasant staff, reasonable prices, extreme cleanliness (in the south America context).

“Chose an "external" room rather one fronting on internal air-well, which is definitely NOT to be recommended.”

“The best rooms seem to be the ones facing on Calle Chile and opposite the Excelsior Shopping Mall. None have views worth bothering about and avoid those opening on to internal light wells, which may be slightly cheaper. Most have bath tubs, plus showers but rooms with walk-in showers are also available on request.”

“I had a room off the street and still got some noise. I'd imagine anything facing straight onto Chile Avenida would be too loud for most. I doubt it will help, honestly, but at least ask for a room with good Internet. Mine on the 6th floor was average to poor.”
